Chapter 426 Checking Temperature
Faced with Luann's sudden move, Myron felt his blood rush like it was about to burst through his skin. He looked up, unable to hide the flood of emotions.
"Myron," he whispered softly.
Luann's lips curled into a sly smile, her eyes half-closed under long lashes that sparkled with mischief. Her hair fell casually over her shoulders, and her slightly tilted head gave her a lazy vibe. She slowly scanned Myron from his forehead to his chin.
She couldn't help but admire him. Broad shoulders, narrow waist, long legs—Myron had it all.
"Not bad," she said, not holding back her praise.
Myron chuckled, "There's something even better. Wanna see?"
Luann's eyes flickered. "No, I don't."
Myron's eyes darkened. In a flash, their roles reversed.
"Mr. Curtis," Luann said, pressing a hand against his chest, her smile bright. Against the black sheets, her skin looked as white as snow.
She smiled, her eyes seductive, like a dazzling rose covered in thorns but gentle enough not to prick.
"Ms. Weaver," Myron played along, his gaze lowering. "Time for a routine check."
Luann raised an eyebrow. "Check what?"
"Temperature."
The dim light stretched their shadows long on the wall, their silhouettes overlapping.
The next morning, Luann woke up with an aching back. She stood in front of the mirror, looking at the marks on her neck and shoulders. She decided on a high-necked black turtleneck and a cream-colored wool coat. Her figure was slender, with a narrow waist. Grabbing her handbag and car keys, Luann headed out.
Near Aspire Securities, there was a quiet library with coffee and bread. Luann often spent her afternoons there. When she needed to relax, this was her go-to spot. So, after lunch, she went there again.
At the counter, the server smiled, "The usual caramel macchiato and strawberry puff stick?"
"Yes," Luann smiled back.
The server handed her a small card.
The best thing about this library was that each seat had an empty rack. Customers just needed to get a card from the counter and place it in the rack to claim the seat.
Luann placed the card and went to find her book. Just as she reached for it, a hand snatched it away.
She raised an eyebrow. Such an obscure book, and someone else wanted it too. She turned to see a sunny face. "Ernest?"
Ernest smiled and extended his hand. "Ms. Weaver, what a coincidence."
Luann lowered her eyes, shook his hand briefly, and let go. She thought, 'Coincidence? A busy superstar like him suddenly shows up at a library near Aspire Securities. I'm not buying that!'
"Ms. Weaver likes quiet places too?" Ernest asked with a gentle smile.
"Yeah, I like quiet," Luann emphasized, making it clear.
Ernest's eyelid twitched a bit. "Sorry, please continue. I won't bother you."
Luann walked around him, grabbed a few books from another shelf. When she got back, she found Ernest sitting right across from her.
She paused, her eyes showing a hint of annoyance. Too many coincidences meant it was on purpose. But since Ernest didn't say anything, she couldn't just tell him to leave. It was a public place, after all. So, she pretended he wasn't there.
After reading just a few pages, Ernest spoke up, "I really admire your thirst for knowledge. You've already learned so much, yet you're still studying hard."
Luann just nodded.
Feeling a bit awkward but determined, Ernest continued, "You like this author too? I do. I stumbled upon their work before and found it really inspiring."
"Yes."
Ernest scratched his head. "Besides reading, do you have any other hobbies? I think we're quite similar, both..."
Luann's phone lit up on the table. She got up and walked to a spot where she could take the call. "Hello, Geoffrey."
"Ms. Weaver," Geoffrey said politely. "Do you have time to meet?"
"I'll send you the location. Be here in ten minutes." She really didn't want to stay with Ernest any longer.
"No problem."
Ten minutes later, Geoffrey arrived right on time. He was driving a police car, with flashing lights that were pretty intimidating.
The server looked scared, thinking, 'Why are the police here? We haven't done anything wrong!'
But Geoffrey ignored her, walked straight in, and greeted Luann.
Luann stood up, waved briefly at Ernest, and got into Geoffrey's car.
Ernest frowned as he watched them leave. "What's going on?"
A few customers around quickly took out their phones, snapped some pictures, and posted them online.
As the car drove away, Luann sighed in relief and looked at Geoffrey.
Geoffrey got straight to the point, "We hope you can be this year's ambassador. You've invested a lot of money and built many schools, creating a great environment for kids. Ms. Weaver..."
Luann calmly said, "No, there's nothing to publicize about this. I just did what I could."
With that, she gestured for the car to stop and smiled lightly. "I'll be going now."
Geoffrey watched her walk away, lit a cigarette in frustration, and took a deep drag.
The auxiliary police officer driving the car kept glancing back, finally speaking after a while, "What do we do? Ms. Weaver isn't cooperating, we..."
"If she doesn't cooperate, we'll step in. It's time to put an end to the rumors online." Geoffrey crushed the burning cigarette into ashes.
