Chapter 230 Drugged Wine

Wilber Gilbert stood in a corner, his emotions a tangled mess. A server passed by, offering a smile as he picked a glass of wine from his tray and handed it over. "Here's your drink, sir."

Wilber accepted the drink and mustered up the courage to approach Luann and Holly. "Luann," he began, "after what happened to Juliet Weaver just now, you two..."

Wilber wanted to ask outright if they were responsible. He had arrived after everything went down.

Holly sighed, "Wilber Gilbert, what are you implying? Clearly, Ms. Weaver, who wasn't watching her step, collided with something and fell. That's got nothing to do with us."

"And besides," she added, "Our Luann is kind-hearted. Even after Juliet said all those terrible things, Luann didn't hold it against her."

Wilber's grip on the glass whitened his knuckles. He sighed deeply.

"Juliet's been hit hard by a lot recently; it's tough. Luna might make some mistakes."

"I hope you can cut her some slack and not provoke her anymore."

Luann raised an eyebrow, "Again? When have I ever provoked her?"

Wilber seemed torn about what to say next.

Holly, sensing the tension, excused herself discreetly.

Wilber Gilbert finally spoke, "About that text message incident, I went to see Juliet afterwards. She appeared to be in pretty bad shape, and she was even... even planning to take her own life. If I hadn't acted quickly, she might not be standing here today."

"Luann, we have to admit, we really hurt Juliet back in the day. I'm truly scared that she can't take it mentally."

Luann Weaver was perplexed.

"What harm have I done to her?"

"Weren't you the one having an affair with her?"

"And wasn't it her who was messing with my phone, sending those texts?"

"What have I ever done from start to finish?"

After finding out about the despicable actions of this man and woman, Luann Weaver didn't argue or fight; she simply let go of the relationship and left without looking back.

She even stepped in as a substitute bride into the Curtis family.

The person who should be complaining is her, right?

Wilber Gilbert kept on, "Luann, how can you say you haven't done anything? You've hurt Juliet over and over. She's been called the other woman, and..."

Luann Weaver cut him off.

"Isn't that the truth?"

"She was the other woman."

Wilber Gilbert hesitated, then nodded, "I know, Luann, but can you please not be so aggressive?"

"I just hope you can be a little kinder to her, give her a chance for redemption."

Luann Weaver stared at Wilber Gilbert emotionlessly.

A moment later.

She suddenly smirked.

To Wilber, this was the first time he had heard Luann Weaver say such a crass thing.

"Wilber Gilbert."

"You're such a blockhead."

Not only slow-witted but also completely played for a fool by Juliet.

Wilber Gilbert was left stunned by Luann's insult.

A sudden rage welled up inside him.

He gulped down his drink in one go, irritably tossing the glass onto the table.

He failed to notice that a server nearby saw him down the drink and hurried off to find Grace to report.

"Grace, Mr. Gilbert has finished his drink."

Grace responded leisurely with a hum, her eyes shimmering with an elusive, dark gleam.

Heh.

Luann Weaver.

For ruining my celebration without reason, you'll receive the lesson you deserve today!

Luann Weaver felt sick to her stomach because of Wilber Gilbert's words.

"Luann, what were you guys talking about?"

Holly Weiss saw her coming and quickly followed, asking eagerly.

Luann Weaver waved her hand dismissively, indicating she wasn't in the mood for conversation. She nonchalantly set her wine glass to one side and found a place to sit down.

Holly Weiss, sensing that Luann was upset, quietly kept her company.

Out of the blue, a waiter approached and offered Luann a new drink.

"I'm sorry, I don't feel like drinking," Luann declined politely.

The waiter, taken aback for a moment, then smiled, "Then let me get you a juice."

Luann glanced at the several glasses of juice already on the table. "No need, there's plenty here."

The waiter's smile stiffened slightly. "I can get you a taste of our resort's special new drink."

Seeing his persistence, Luann relented. "Alright then."

Relieved, the waiter hurried away and soon returned with a glass of pale pink beverage. He introduced it with a grin, "This drink is called 'Blushed Whimsy.' It's very fruity and only has 2 percent alcohol, perfect for someone who prefers not to drink much."

Luann took the glass, gently swirling the liquid inside. She dipped her head slightly, smelling the aroma that wafted from the rim, and her expression subtly shifted.

She raised her eyes to look deep into the waiter's, making him feel a bit uneasy.

"Woman earth?" she questioned with a meaningful depth with her gaze. "Is there something else? Or are you planning to stand here and watch me drink it all just so you can collect an empty glass?"

Belatedly grasping the hint, the waiter excused himself quickly but didn't venture far.

Luann lowered her voice and asked, "Has he gone?"

Confused, Holly glanced back, "No, he's still nearby. What's wrong?"

Luann spoke calmly, "There's something in the drink. The fruity scent is subdued, and something might be mixed in... something that can make a person lose control."

Holly knew well that Luann had an exceptional talent for discerning drinks. Luann could identify the very essence, color, and even the year of any wine with just a whiff.

Her judgment could never be wrong.

"Something that makes you lose control?" Holly's eyes widened with realization.

Luann tapped her fingertip against the glass, nodding, "Yeah, not for kids."

Holly immediately understood and stood up angrily.

"Damn it..."

Luann grabbed her, "Don't alarm him."

Holly bit her lip, her expression serious.

"Lucky you noticed, or we would have fallen right into their trap!"

Luann had always been beautiful and ever since she was young, Adolph, who enjoyed his time at the bars, had taught her a few tricks to spot such low tricks. No matter if it was a little pill, a pact of powder, or scented incense.

She could distinguish it easily.

"Luann, who do you think did it? Who would want to drug you?"

Luann Weaver shook her head. At this victory party, some too many people looked at her unfavorably.

"Luann, so what do we do now?"

Luann Weaver glanced at the fruit wine in her cup and smiled gently. "It would be a shame to waste this, wouldn't it?"

Holly Weiss's eyes lit up, "You mean..."

They looked at each other, each seeing the sparkle in the other's eyes.

Out of the corner of her eye, Luann Weaver caught a glimpse of a waiter who thought he was well-hidden in the corner, "Lan Lan, cover me from his view a bit."

"Got it, leave it to me."

The waiter stood in place, with a lot of people passing in front of him. He closely watched Luann Weaver, planning to report back to Grace once she finished her drink. Then, someone tapped him on the shoulder.

Eddy squinted his attractive, peach blossom-like eyes, "Could I have a drink, please?"

After the waiter handed Eddy his drink and looked back for Luann Weaver, he found that she had disappeared!

The waiter stepped forward in a panic, only to be stopped by Holly Weiss.

"Hi."

"Could you give me another Blushing Geisha?" she asked. "My friend just had it and thought it was fantastic! I want to try it, too."
