Chapter 433 Raised a Pet
Emma's laugh cut through the silence like a knife. "You think you can go after the hottest actress in Hollywood? Alvin, get real."
Alvin just rolled his eyes, not fazed at all. He ran a hand through his greasy hair, feeling pretty confident. "With my looks and potential, it's not totally out of the question."
Emma, who'd been chasing celebs for years, knew the industry well. "Potential? Please. You might look good, but where's the talent? Your company's been bleeding money, only surviving because of Luann. Your grades are among the worst in the college. Seriously, what do you have going for you?"
Alvin slammed the table, cutting her off. "Emma, are we family or what? Why are you always putting me down? Aren't you the same, always drooling over Ernest?"
Emma pouted, "That's different. I just admire him. It's not like I want him to be my boyfriend!"
Alvin covered his ears, annoyed. "Just leave me alone, will you?"
Emma snorted, "I'm just waiting to see you crash and burn."
When the new quarter's earnings report came out, Alvin was grinning like a kid in a candy store. He sat in his office chair, watching the profits roll in.
He quickly logged into his bank account and transferred half of the profits to Luann.
Ten minutes later, Luann called. "Why'd you send me money?"
Alvin chuckled awkwardly. "Luann, those designs you gave me are the reason I'm making money. Honestly, I should give you all the profits. But my company's just getting started and needs funds, so the rest went to the finance department. In the future..."
Luann laughed, cutting him off. "We're family, no need to be so formal about what's yours and mine."
Alvin shook his head. "No, Luann, that's not right. You help me because you see me as family. If I just take it all without a second thought, it means I don't see you as family."
He knew this well. Their relationship wasn't as close back then; Luann helped him only because he was Myron's brother.
Luann sighed, "Keep the money. I might call you over for a card game someday, and you might end up losing more than the profit you're giving me now."
Alvin remembered his last miserable loss but didn't back down. "Luann, it's not much. If you keep refusing, I'll really get mad."
Luann sighed, "Alright, you win. I'll take it. Thanks."
Alvin grinned, "By the way, I'll pick you up tonight. Let's grab dinner."
"Okay."
Alvin was already waiting downstairs at the company when he saw Luann and Joshua coming out together. "Joshua, you're tagging along too?"
Joshua nodded. "Can't handle an extra person?"
"No, just get in the car," Alvin said, quickly opening the door.
The three of them headed to Vintage Mirror.
Alvin handed the menu to Luann, but Joshua snatched it away.
"Hey, ever heard of 'ladies first'? Why are you hogging the menu?" Alvin protested.
Joshua flipped through the menu, unfazed. "I eat with Luann every day. I know what she likes."
As Joshua kept ordering, Alvin started worrying about the bill. "You're ordering way too much. There's only three of us; we can't finish all this."
Joshua smirked. "Aren't you the big spender now? Why so stingy?"
Alvin squeezed a stuffed animal on the sofa, forcing a smile. "Then why don't you return those two pricey bottles of wine?"
Joshua leaned back lazily. "No way. Luann said you made bank, so I'm making you spend. Plus, I have another mouth to feed at home. I'll just take the leftovers."
Alvin's curiosity piqued. "You got a girlfriend?"
Joshua shook his head. "Nope."
"Then what are you talking about?"
Joshua kept a straight face. "I got a pig at home. It eats a ton and gets hungry every couple of hours."
Alvin didn't doubt him. "Is it a mini pig? Maybe it's pregnant?"
Joshua chuckled. "It's a male."
"Oh, then it must be young. Pets need to grow too."
Luann sipped her tea, hiding a smile. Her phone buzzed, and she answered it.
Joshua and Alvin lowered their voices but kept chatting.
"Ms. Weaver, the spokesperson for Sunflower this year has been chosen. It's the new actress, Elodie," said the voice on the other end.
Luann raised an eyebrow, surprised. "Elodie?"
Hearing the name, Alvin signaled Joshua to be quiet and listened closely.
"Yes, Elodie is quite popular now. She's filming movies, so her popularity won't fade for at least six months. We've already talked to her, and she can start shooting the promotional video and samples next week," the voice continued. "We hope you can come back."
Luann nodded. "If it's her, that's good. Let's go with that."
"Okay," the person on the other end of the line responded.
After hanging up, Alvin immediately leaned over. "What's up with Elodie?"
Luann said calmly, "She's the new spokesperson for Sunflower."
Alvin's eyes lit up, and he grabbed her arm. "Luann, take me with you!"
