Chapter 344 The One Hundred Million Dollars Grave
Luann stared at them blankly. "So?"
Mike forced a bitter smile. "Luann, I wouldn't have bothered you if it weren’t necessary, let alone ask for money."
"You're still my daughter."
"I beg you to forgive me for neglecting you before."
Luann leaned back on the sofa, twirling her fingers. "So, a hundred million dollars isn't enough?"
She thought, 'Isn't that what they're getting at?'
Mike and Juliet felt awkward, not expecting Luann to be so direct.
Juliet spoke up, "Luann, you're on the global art list every year, basically just sitting at home counting money."
"Giving a bit more shouldn't be a big deal for you, right?"
Mike coughed lightly, a bit anxious. "Juliet, don't say that. Luann has worked hard for that money. I'm grateful she came back today to listen to us."
Juliet hesitated, looking conflicted. "Dad, but you already..."
They sounded like a rehearsed duo, trying to be convincing.
Mike looked at Luann with affection. "Luann, I just need a hundred million dollars."
"Not a penny more." Luann's eyes were gentle. She said emotionally, "You gave me life. I wouldn't have been who I am without you. Juliet's right. Since I make so much money, I should give more to honor you. I can't spend all this money in several lifetimes."
Mike's heart nearly jumped out of his chest with excitement!
He thought, 'Playing the pity card works! Luann is just like her foolish mother, believing anything!'
"Luann!" Mike, excited, grabbed her hand, eyes filled with tears. "I never thought you were so kind, just like your mother. I regret not realizing how good you are until now."
Luann's smile was gentle, like a spring breeze.
But to Mike, it was filled with deep disgust.
Luann looked so much like Shirley.
From the first moment he saw Luann, Mike was startled.
Every time he called Luann's name, he thought of Shirley and how she brought him into her family.
Since Luann came back, Mike often had nightmares of Shirley chasing him, waking up in a cold sweat.
"So how much do you want to give me?" Mike asked hopefully.
Luann rubbed her chin, pretending to think. "One billion dollars?"
Mike gasped.
"Not enough? Then two billion? Three billion?"
Luann kept increasing the price.
Finally, she said, "Ten billion? A hundred billion?"
The more Mike listened, the more he felt something was off. He quickly interrupted, "Wait, Luann, you're not still mad at me and mocking me, right?"
He thought, 'A hundred billion dollars? No way! Would Luann really give me all her money? So selfless? So generous?'
"Dad, do you really think I'm that stingy?" Luann pouted slightly, looking a bit displeased. "A hundred billion dollars is nothing; I can still afford it."
Juliet was dumbfounded, thinking, 'I can't even imagine such a huge amount. But Luann says it so easily. She must be loaded!'
Mike rubbed his hands impatiently, feeling very anxious. "So when can I get the money?"
He tried not to laugh out loud, trying to look like a loving father.
"Dad, don't be anxious," Luann said, a bit displeased. "Even for me, it takes time to arrange such a large amount."
Mike was stunned, then realized. "But I don't have much time left."
Luann nodded, her tone soothing like she was talking to a child.
"I know. Really, you shouldn't be so formal with me. If you had told me earlier, I would have prepared it sooner."
"Now, I've only brought a billion dollars today."
Luann tilted her head, thinking about how to solve this.
After a while, she snapped her fingers. "How about this: give me a few more days, and I'll bring it all to you at once, okay?"
Mike wouldn't let the money slip through his fingers.
No matter what, he had to get a billion dollars from Luann first!
Even if she didn't give the rest later, it wouldn't be a loss for him!
Juliet spoke up first, thinking the same thing. "Luann, you said you brought a billion dollars today, right? Why not give it to Dad now, so he can enjoy it sooner?"
Luann suddenly realized and slapped her forehead. "Look at my brain! Thanks for the reminder. Otherwise, I would have had to make several trips."
As Luann spoke, she reached for her bag.
Their anxious gazes were glued to her hand, eyes almost bursting with excitement! Especially Mike.
Since taking over the Wright Family, he had squandered so much that in just a few years, the Wright Family, once almost on par with the Curtis Family, had fallen, becoming the small household it was today.
It had been many, many years since he had seen so much money!
Luann took out a document from her bag and handed it to Mike.
Mike was stunned, expecting a bank card or a check.
'Why is it a contract? Is the money too much to transfer easily?' Thinking this, Mike happily took it.
But he found...
"Cemetery Purchase Contract? Luann, what's this?"
He wasn't dying yet, and Luann had already bought his burial plot!
Luann smiled gently, her eyes reflecting his angry face. "Don't you like it? I carefully selected this cemetery, facing south on a hillside. There's water in front and behind, the location is excellent. There are hundreds of plots inside, so after you die, I can move you to a new spot each year, giving you a new home. Isn't that great?"
