Chapter 200 Entanglement

When Wilber arrived at the Weaver residence, Mike Weaver's demeanor toward him was relatively amiable.

Taking a sip of his coffee, Wilber glanced around.

"Where's Juliet?" he inquired.

Mike Weaver explained, "Since she signed with the talent agency, she's been staying at the housing they provided. She hardly ever comes home, not even once a week. Is there something you want to discuss with Juliet?"

Wilber coughed lightly, relieved that Juliet wasn’t here.

"I came here today to ask for the return of the money I gave Juliet back then." He broached the subject delicately.

Mike Weaver's smile vanished at a noticeable speed.

"You know, Juliet and I were in love back then. I was head over heels for her. I was certain she was the one, which is why I gave her that money. But as you know, things fell apart... we broke up...

"I didn't want to ask for it back, but after our relationship went public, my company's stock plummeted to rock bottom. I'm in desperate need of funds to keep things going... I hope you can understand me."

Wilber believed he had spoken reasonably.

But Mike Weaver's response was less than agreeable.

"What are you implying? You want to take back the money you gave her? Juliet spent a year by your side and it didn’t do her any good. She was also accused of being the ‘other woman’ and was trapped as a secret lover for a year!

"I always thought you were a decent kid, Wilber. I can’t believe you turned out like this! After all this time, Juliet can't get a dime from you after the breakup?"

Wilber Gilbert waved his hands desperately.

"It's not like that, sir. I told you, my company is in trouble, I'm strapped for cash, so that's why..."

Mike Weaver cut him off.

"Enough. Spare me the excuses. You think I don't know the Gilberts? The Gilbert Group is much bigger than the Weaver family business. There's no way you're out of funds."

Wilber was getting annoyed.

"Let's just be honest here. My family could afford it, sure. But my parents never liked Juliet. Me suddenly switching from marrying Luann to Juliet already irked them.

"Then all those incidents happened, causing the Gilbert Group's stock to plummet. My parents were disappointed with the situation, so they wouldn't inject any capital..."

The Weavers had been pressing him to marry Juliet, and he had kept dodging the issue.

That was the reason.

Mike Weaver laughed mockingly.

"So you're blaming us for everything now? Is it our fault that your parents don't like Juliet?"

When Wilber saw Mike Weaver's relentless attitude, he got angry, too.

"Juliet was also to blame for our breakup. PYou can't make me shoulder everything just because I'm a man!"

Mike Weaver stood up abruptly, rolling up his sleeves, his face filled with rage.

"What kind of talk is that?!"

Wilber stood up, too.

"It’s the truth! If Juliet hadn't seduced me, how could we have ended up in a secret relationship and had these problems?

"If Juliet hadn't interfered, Luanne and I would be married by now—and happily, no doubt! Juliet ruined my chance at happiness. I'm just trying to get back what's mine. What's wrong with that?"

Wilber regretted his past mistakes whenever he saw the dazzling Luann Weaver. He must have been out of his mind to let such a gorgeous woman slip away just to chase after the thrill of something new with Juliet.

He'd be standing by Luann's side if he had made a different choice then.

Mike Weaver was beet red with fury, puffing up as Wilber's words hit him like bullets. He raised his hand, shouting, "Get out of here! The Weavers don't welcome you! Get out!"

Wilber clenched his fists tightly, grinding his teeth before storming off. He hadn’t gotten his money back, and he had now also butted heads with Mike Weaver.

The grudge festered in Wilber Gilbert's heart and refused to be settled.

He pulled his out phone, wondering if he should call Luann.

Meanwhile, Luann was leisurely flipping through a magazine.

"Judging by the time, Wilber must be arguing with my dad about now."

Myron shifted his gaze from his laptop screen and quietly looked at her.

"What's your plan?"

Luann smiled, resting her chin in her hand.

"Since I’m a kind-hearted person, I ought to lend a hand when someone’s in trouble. If Wilber’s come to me, he must be desperate, which means his parents have cut him off.

"And as for the money he owed the Weavers, well, my dad's already tied that up in investments..."

Myron's lips quirked up slightly as he observed the contemplative woman before him.

"So, you're planning to step in and help Wilber out."

Luann nodded, her eyes twinkling.

"Of course."

Myron had a hunch.

After a moment, Luann turned to him with a playful smile.

"You're not jealous, are you, Myron?"

He shook his head.

"He's not worth my jealousy."

Wilber was a lowlife, a foolish man unworthy of his concern.

Myron's disdain was apparent. His thoughts had already shifted to Adolph...

Luann hummed, not catching the shift in Myron's expression.

"That's good to hear."

The following day, Myron drove Luann to her company, bright and early.

Before heading upstairs, she told the receptionist, "If Mr. Gilbert shows up, just send him up. No need for an appointment."

"Will do, ma’am."

Wilber's car pulled up in front of the Curtis Group headquarters an hour later. He hesitated before entering the room, feeling the curious glances of many as he approached.

"Hello, I'm looking for Luann Weaver. My name is Wilber Gilbert..."

As Wilber introduced himself, people around him were surprised to see him.

"Isn't that the fool Wilber Gilbert?"

"That’s the jerk who got involved with Luann Weaver's sister, right?"

"Yeah, that's him!"

"I bet he's regretting it now..."

"Hey, do you think Wilber Gilbert's got a screw loose? He left someone as impressive as Luann Weaver for that other woman..."

The receptionist smiled and said, "Just take the elevator up. Luann’s already been informed."

Wilber nodded. "Alright..."

He headed upstairs, paused for a long time in front of the office door, and mustered up the courage to knock.

"Come in."

Her voice was straightforward and pleasing to the ear and made Wilber's heart quiver slightly.

The door opened with a soft sound, and he walked in and saw her, radiant and striking, sitting in her chair.

For a moment, he was dazzled. He never imagined that the country girl he had once disdained, so close and yet overlooked, could be so stunningly beautiful, and shine so brightly.

When Joshua heard the movement, he looked up in surprise, his eyes widening.

It was as if he had found something to tease Luann about, and in a sarcastic tone, he quipped, "Luann Weaver, isn't this your ex-boyfriend?

"Are you here to reminisce about the good old days of romance behind Myron Curtis's back?"
