Chapter 146 Rival in Love
Luann Weaver responded with a calm "Hmm" and took her seat naturally.
Peter immediately reached for the lemon water to pour her a glass, his hand trembling. He accidentally spilled some on Luann's pants.
"Sorry, sorry!" he stammered.
Peter North fumbled for a tissue, wanted to wipe her pants clean, but Holly Weiss intercepted him. "What are you doing? Trying to take advantage?" she jeered. "That's a bit cliché, don't you think?"
After Holly helped Luann Weaver tidy up, she turned to Peter with a complex look in her eyes. "Could you act any weirder?" She quipped.
"Just this morning, you were all poker-faced," she continued, "and a few hours later, you've turned into this blushing boy who acts like he's never even spoken to a woman before?"
Peter North was speechless. He took a deep breath, his voice trembling, "Sorry... I'm just, a bit nervous..."
"No need to be nervous, we can just make small talk." Luann said softly.
Peter confessed, "I just didn’t expect... that you were the senior I've admired..."
The moment Luann Weaver leapt over him to cross the finish line, Peter North admitted that his heart really did beat.
At that moment, he felt like betraying his seniors.
But when he realized that Luann Weaver was the senior he had loved for so many years, he was immediately relieved.
Holly Weiss nodded in approval. "Not only did you not see it coming, but none of us did."
"I thought all this time you were living in Europe, a true French native."
Peter took a gulp of water and passed the menu to Luann. "You go ahead and order first, senior. We’ll talk while we eat."
Luann casually made her selection. The steak was served promptly by the waiter, and Holly didn't hesitate to dig in. She glanced between Luann and Peter, sensing an air of awkward tension.
"Myron Curtis might have gotten himself a rival..." Holly mused. It was no secret to anyone in the group, her included, that Peter's feelings for Luann were more than mere admiration but also of affection.
"I wonder how much I could sell this scoop for..." pondering the thought, Holly whipped out her phone and texted Myron Curtis, "Got some news about Luann. Want to hear it?"
It took a moment for Myron to reply. "Conditions?" he responded.
Holly Weiss thought for a moment, "Just let Eddy stay there."
Myron Curtis raised an eyebrow when he saw the message, showing it to Eddy, who laughed out loud. "Look at that, my charm isn't too bad, right? Holly Weiss keeps saying she hates me, but when it comes down to it, she still looks out for me."
He snatched Myron Curtis's phone, quickly asking, "Why are you helping him?"
"Need a stable financial support."
"?!"
"I heard he made a deal with Alvin Curtis for six months' worth of meals. I want that too!" Holly Weiss patted her flat wallet.
Myron Curtis looked at Eddy's ashen face, commenting nonchalantly, "Yeah, she really does look out for you."
"Get lost!" Then, Holly Weiss vividly recounted to Myron Curtis the story of how Luann Weaver and Peter North had come to know each other over the years.
After reading it, Myron Curtis replied, "I've changed my mind, let Eddy go to Europe."
Holly Weiss was furious: "Why! Are you using me and then planning to discard me?!"
Myron Curtis's lips curved slightly. "Aren't you the one using me? If you hadn't brought Luann into the group, how would she have met Peter North? How would Peter North have fallen for her? You created this rival, didn't you?"
Holly Weiss was stunned. It seemed... that was indeed the case. Myron Curtis's icy text came again. "I haven't troubled you for this, and yet here you are negotiating with me?"
Holly Weiss quietly closed the chat. She had been careless, forgetting that she was the instigator.
Myron Curtis picked up his car keys.
"Where are you off to?"
"There are some things that need to be worked out."
Luann Weaver engaged in a distant but polite conversation with Peter North, mostly about his racing career. After the meal, Luann Weaver planned to leave. She went to the restroom, and when she came out, she found Holly Weiss was gone.
Peter North stood before her, treasuring the velvet box he handed to her. "Actually, this was something you won."
Luann Weaver replied indifferently, "No need, I've already exchanged the necklace for a car. Keep it for yourself."
"Senior..."
"Sorry for stealing your thunder, I'll be more careful next time." Luann Weaver smiled slightly and went to look for Holly Weiss.
Peter North watched her leave, murmuring, "If it's for you, I'm willing to give up all the spotlight."
A voice as cold as ice that could freeze everything spoke from behind him. "She can get it on her own."
"She doesn't need you to give it to her."
Peter North turned sharply to face Myron Curtis's icy gaze.
"It's you, Myron Curtis."
He had known Myron Curtis since they were kids but wasn't very close. After he moved to another city, their paths never crossed again.
"If I hadn't been too afraid to face my feelings for my senior, do you think you'd be the one by her side now?"
Myron Curtis tilted his head slightly, his eyes narrowing with a mocking smile. "Don't you think it's childish to say that now?"
Peter North enunciated each word, "I've liked my senior for many years."
"Even if she's married now, I won't give up."
Myron Curtis raised an eyebrow. "You want to be the third wheel?"
Peter North stood tall. At this moment, he exuded pride. "If she had someone by her side who was as outstanding as she is, then I would wish her happiness."
"But you, you can't give her that."
Myron Curtis replied coolly, "What defines happiness? By your racing skills?"
Peter North adjusted his collar, standing up straight. "I..."
"Myron?" Luann Weaver had looked around for Holly Weiss and, not finding her, came back to find the two men in the middle of their conversation.
Luann Weaver interrupted directly, locking eyes with Myron Curtis.
Luann Weaver stepped forward, naturally taking Myron Curtis's arm, smiling at Peter North, "Sorry, we have to go."
Peter North's eyes flashed a hint of frustration as he nodded, watching them leave.
