Chapter 55 Retreat as Advance
Wilber walked up to Luann and reached out his hand towards her.
Luann discreetly avoided it and said, "It's fine. I don't think my sister did it on purpose."
Juliet looked at Luann's affected and pretentious demeanor, her clenched fists trembling with anger.
Her sharp nails dug into her palms, and her eyebrows twisted in frustration.
"Luann, you..."
Mike Weaver, afraid that Juliet would speak recklessly in her unstable emotional state, hurriedly interrupted.
"Enough!"
"Stop arguing!"
"Juliet, go and make a cup of tea for Wilber."
Reluctantly, Juliet stomped her foot, pouted her red lips, and looked at Wilber with a mix of sadness and grievances.
Seeing the swollen red eyes and the bleak appearance on Juliet's face, Wilber inexplicably felt a sense of annoyance.
He looked away and said to Luann, "You didn't trip or hurt yourself, did you?"
Juliet gritted her teeth, and under Mike Weaver's repeated eye signals, she reluctantly walked towards the kitchen.
Luann shook her head, her tone indifferent and distant.
"No, since you are here, I will be the one to leave."
Wilber was taken aback.
"Luann, don't rush to leave. I have something to tell you."
After coming all this way, she couldn't just leave empty-handed!
Mike Weaver had long wanted to kick Luann out, and hearing those words made him fear more trouble, he hurriedly grabbed Wilber's arm.
"Wilber, just let Luann go."
"When she came, she said she couldn't stay long; Master Curtis is waiting for her to go back and have dinner together."
He emphasized the words 'Master Curtis.'
Wilber was reminded that Luann was already a married woman.
Indeed, there was a hint of sadness in Wilber's eyes, his fingers clenched, and a few veins became prominent on his neck.
After Luann left, Mike Weaver calmly spoke to Wilber.
"You must have seen those online comments, right?"
"How do you plan to handle this situation?"
Wilber opened his mouth, looking troubled.
"Uncle..."
Mike Weaver sighed, interrupting his words, as if he had already guessed what Wilber was going to say.
"That girl, Juliet, is confused as well."
"Just to be with you, she even doesn't mind becoming a secretive mistress."
"Wilber, she is my beloved daughter."
"Weaver Family may not be as prosperous as your Gilbert Family."
"But I have never let Juliet suffer or go through any hardships since she was little."
"Now that she is being criticized like this, do you know how painful it is for me as a father?"
Mike Weaver shook his head sadly, his face showing a hint of sorrow, and the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes deepened.
His brows revealed a caring expression.
"If it weren't for loving you enough, would I allow her, a pampered heiress, to endure such humiliation and be unappreciated?"
"I know you came here today to break up with Juliet, right?"
A trace of panic flashed through Wilber's eyes.
The corners of Mike Weaver's lips filled with a bitter taste. He closed his eyes and, when he opened them again, he showed a sense of relief and understanding.
"If you truly don't love her anymore, you can separate."
"I know this matter has had a significant impact on you."
"Announcing the breakup now can also make the damage less severe."
"I just hope..."
"For the sake of Juliet, who has been with you for over a year and suffered so much, try not to hurt her too much."
In that moment, Wilber didn't know what to say.
If the Weaver Family resorted to tears, arguments, or manipulative tactics based on past relationships, he might have quickly become tired of breaking up.
But at this moment, Mike Weaver showed such magnanimity and considered things from his perspective.
It made Wilber wonder...
Did he maybe gone too far?
"I have always liked you, my child. Since we can't be a family, there is still something I want to remind you."
"No matter whether you currently like Luann or not, she is already married."
"And her husband is Cur..."
"The young master of the Curtis family," she said.
"Even if you want to reconcile, do you think... Myron will let you go?"
After these words were spoken, both fell into silence.
Juliet walked out of the kitchen and placed the tea in front of Wilber.
Mike Weaver understood and got up from his seat.
"You two talk, I have something to attend to, I'll go upstairs first," he said, giving Juliet a meaningful look.
Juliet nodded slightly, almost imperceptibly, in response.
All the servants in the living room left, leaving only Juliet and Wilber sitting face to face.
In the quiet air, their breaths were the only sound.
"Juliet..." Wilber started, but at a loss for words.
Juliet seemed afraid of what he might say next and hastily interrupted, picking up the tea.
"Have some tea, it should be warm... Oh!"
Juliet's hand trembled, and the tea splashed out, scalding the back of her hand.
Wilber's pupils contracted, and he hurriedly grabbed her hand.
"Are you okay?"
Juliet shook her head gently and slowly pulled her fingers away.
With her head lowered, her expression was not clear, and occasionally, huge teardrops fell, like pearls, unable to be restrained, trembling intensely.
"Wilber, please... stop being so kind to me," she said in a voice filled with grievance and uncontrollable sobs.
"I heard what you said to Father just now."
"If you truly love my sister and want to pursue her again, then I will bless you."
"After all... from the beginning, it was because I fell in love with you first that it caused you to break up with my sister."
Listening to her words, Wilber felt a sharp pain in his heart.
Juliet's tone made it seem as if she confirmed him to be a scumbag.
"Juliet, don't say that..."
With swollen and sore eyes, Juliet raised her head and revealed a gentle smile.
"Wilber, let's break up."
...
That evening, Juliet posted a video…
In the video, her face was bare, her eyes full of tears.
She took all the blame upon herself and without any defense or excuse.
She was straightforward, and was apologizing to Luann.
And she informed everyone that she and Wilber had peacefully broken up.
The angry comments below quietly changed their tone.
"It's good if she can change, just don't be a homewrecker again."
"She's a good-looking girl. It would be better for her to have a proper relationship instead of poaching someone else's lover."
"That's good, knowing one's mistakes and apologizing. I forgive you."
"Just because she apologizes, does not erase the fact that what she did was wrong? One or two people were paid off? Can an apology wipe everything away?"
"Flies don't bite seamless eggs. Neither she nor Wilber is a good person. Can't we stop blaming only the woman? Can't we also blame that scumbag?"
After posting the video, Juliet deleted it right away.
She put her phone aside, wiped away her tears with ease, and sat in front of the mirror, leisurely applying a facial mask. It seemed as though the teary-eyed person who had just cried in front of the camera was not her.
