Chapter 229 A Lesson on the Spot
"You eat the best food, wear the finest clothes, and live in a large house," Luann stated pointedly. "Do you think these things belong to whom?"
"They're mine," Juliet asserted.
Luann slapped Juliet's face softly. "Don't forget that you've enjoyed all these years with the Weaver family, playing the role of the pampered heiress."
"All of this has been at my pleasure," Luann continued. "Juliet Weaver, just remember, I can take back the Weaver family's favor as easily as it was given."
Juliet looked into Luann's smiling face, noticing not a hint of warmth, only an endless chill spreading through her limbs and penetrating every pore, prompting her to shiver. She chuckled lowly.
"But you wouldn't dare!"
Juliet had been audacious so far because she was sure Luann wouldn't dare use the Curtis family's influence against the Weavers. Such a move, if exposed, would lead to public scorn for Luann.
The light in Luann's almond-shaped eyes danced. It wasn't about daring; it was about disdain.
"What if the Weaver family once belonged to your mother?"
"Luann, you're a disaster!" Juliet accused. "Do you even know how your mother died?"
"She died because you brought bad luck upon her!"
"She really had thin fortune, didn't she? Not only losing the Weaver family but also..."
Luann's eyes blazed with anger, visibly swirling with fury.
Slap!
The sound of a sharp slap echoed, but it wasn't from Luann.
"Will you shut your filthy mouth for once?" rebuked a voice. "Don't you think you sound like an annoying fly, buzzing incessantly in other people's ears?"
Holly Weiss made her entrance, clad in an elegant strapless black dress with heels that added a considerable height to her stature.
The slap dumbfounded Juliet. She knew her words would infuriate Luann, but the confrontation took a surprising turn.
But Luann Weaver figured she wouldn't make a move in today's setting—otherwise, it would be the Curtis family's reputation on the line.
Unexpectedly, a good deed interrupted?
Holly Weiss watched Juliet Weaver with a cold stare.
Why did this person always seem so desperate for attention in front of Luann Weaver?
Not only did she insult Luann, but she also disrespected her mother, who had passed away years ago.
Holly felt determined to seek revenge for Luann, while several people began to notice the commotion, directing their gaze towards them. A frown formed on Luann Weaver's elegant brow.
Today was supposed to be Grace's celebration, and a big scene might upset the old man.
If she was the one causing the scene, it might be excusable—after all, Vito Curtis might suppress his anger somewhat because of Myron Curtis.
"Never mind," Luann said softly.
Whatever grudges there were, they can wait until after the party. There would be plenty of opportunities to handle Juliet Weaver, then.
It wasn't worth causing a scandal now.
Luann had meant to watch out for Holly Weiss, but Holly misunderstood her intentions.
Was Juliet Weaver picking on Luann Weaver now, and she was just going to let it slide with a casual 'never mind'?
Taking a deep breath to calm herself, Holly managed a strained smile.
"Well then, since you say let it go, Luann, let's let it go," she said.
Juliet Weaver, clutching her face, glared resentfully at them.
With a ferocious glare, Holly Weiss threatened, "Keep looking, and I'll gouge your eyes out!"
Juliet seemed frightened, visibly shuddering, offering no retort as she turned and walked away.
But in Holly's eyes, a cold light shone; she saw her chance. Before Luann could react, Holly rushed over and gave Juliet a fierce shove.
A scream ripped through the air.
Juliet Weaver, unable to control her fall, went tumbling toward the right, where numerous stemmed glasses were perched up high.
Crash!
Hundreds of glasses stacked together cascaded to the floor, shattering into pieces.
Juliet Weaver ended up amidst the shards of glass. Her body was slashed with several cuts.
"Oh my God..."
"What a vicious woman..."
People around retreated in shock, but upon seeing that it was Juliet Weaver, not one stepped forward to help.
A sharp piece of glass had lodged into Juliet Weaver's palm, the pain causing her teeth to chatter.
Juliet Weaver tried to compose herself to leave the place but found that an invisible glass wall surrounded her. Looking up with disarray, she saw the pointing fingers of the people around her and Holly Weiss's prideful smile, her eyes red with anger.
It was all because of Luann Weaver.
That loyal hound by Luann Weaver's side had brought her to such an embarrassing state today!
Wilber Gilbert approached, following the voices, but as he met Juliet Weaver's gaze, he suddenly stepped back two paces.
"Wilber..."
Juliet thought she saw the light of her life, reaching out to him pleadingly for help.
Wilber Gilbert, he couldn't be that heartless, could he?
After all, they had been together for a year. That had to count for something.
However, Wilber's eyes flitted away, and he turned his head, pretending not to see.
Juliet's heart sank viciously.
As expected...
Whenever Luann Weaver was around, Wilber Gilbert would be this indifferent to her.
More and more people gathered around.
An annoyed voice broke through the chatter.
"What's all this?!"
The crowd parted into two.
Grace Walker stepped forward, assessing the situation with laser-like focus on Luann Weaver and the woman beside her.
Without any apparent concern, Luann subtly pulled Holly Weiss back.
With a faint smile, she said, "The champagne glasses were stacked too high. It's easy for accidents to happen."
Grace raised an eyebrow, slightly tilting her chin. "Really? Miss Juliet Weaver must have been very careless. Someone, please take her to the lounge to treat her wounds and change her into a fresh set of clothes."
A server quickly escorted Juliet away, while another began swiftly cleaning up the mess on the floor.
"Sister-in-law, this is my celebration. Please, spare me some dignity, and don't make it difficult for me."
As a server passed by with a tray, Grace stopped him and gracefully took two glasses, handing one to Luann Weaver.
"I wouldn't want tomorrow's headlines stolen by you, dear sister-in-law."
Clink.
The delicate sound of glass touching glass echoed crisply.
Grace lifted her head and drained her glass in one gulp.
"Sister-in-law..."
Before she could finish, someone hurried over to call her.
"Miss Walker, your grandfather is looking for you."
Grace hummed in acknowledgment and lightly raised her glass to Luann.
"Enjoy yourself, sister-in-law. I must excuse myself."
"Sure."
Once Grace had left, Luann Weaver pulled Holly Weiss aside for a private word.
"You know, this isn't like working at Lancaster Corporation; you've gotta avoid being too impulsive," Holly Weiss acknowledged with an "oh," "I just can't stand to see someone picking on you. That Juliet Weaver is way out of line, spewing that kind of talk."
Juliet was certain that Luann Weaver wouldn't dare cause a scene at Grace's celebration, suggesting any grudge could be settled after the party was over. Luann gently stroked Holly's hair, appreciating that she had her best interests at heart. Holly had stood up for her, after all.
Comforted by Luann, Holly's mood improved slightly. "Alright, I'll try to keep my cool next time."
Luann nodded, somewhat puzzled. "Didn't Eddy say you were home? How come you ran over here?"
Holly huffed lightly, "I just couldn't shake the feeling that you were being bullied."
"Good thing I made it in time, or that mad dog really would've bitten someone."
