Chapter 457 Striving to Conceal
The plate of eggs was thrown onto the table by Joshua. He wore a stern expression. "Hurry up and eat."
Hill, far from being annoyed, sat in front of him with a smile, enjoying her meal.
The fried eggs were a bit burnt, and there was too much salt, but it didn't affect Joshua's image in Hill's eyes.
After eating, the two headed to the amusement park.
Joshua regretted it as soon as he got in the car. Here he was, a grown man, going to the amusement park with the small Hill. It felt so odd. Everyone else was with their girlfriends.
Joshua sighed frequently on the way. Hill turned to look at him and said, "If you don't want to go with me, I can ask Luann. No need to look like you're going to your death."
Joshua's mouth twitched and he wondered whether he was that obvious.
After parking the car, they got out. But when they reached the entrance, they saw two familiar figures.
"Oh my God, did you contact Luann?" Joshua whispered to Hill.
Hill shook his head. "No."
"Then why is she here? And with Myron!" Joshua seemed to foresee what was about to happen.
Hill shrugged and decisively walked towards Luann and Myron. Just as she raised his hand to tap Luann on the shoulder, Joshua grabbed it.
Hill's hand was really smooth. But her palm was full of calluses.
"Hi." Joshua forced a smile.
Myron looked at them coldly.
Joshua swallowed and awkwardly said, "What a coincidence!"
Luann nodded. "Yeah, I really wanted to come to the amusement park too!"
Joshua immediately understood. Hill had stood Luann up, so she brought Myron instead. But this was too risky!
Luann looked around. "It's quite hot today. I'm sweating and want some ice cream." She was clearly talking to Myron.
Before Myron could speak, Hill said, "I'll go buy it."
Joshua was shocked and thought,' Is Hill crazy? This is like walking into a trap.'
Myron's sinister and probing gaze swept over. However, Hill seemed unfazed.
Joshua could clearly hear his own increasingly loud heartbeat. He swallowed and burst into laughter. "Hill, how did you know I wanted ice cream too? Look at the sweat on my head, it's dripping. Come on, let's go buy some, and get one for Luann too!"
After saying that, Joshua dragged Hill away.
Hill followed behind, smiling meaningfully.
Joshua wasn't lying; he was sweating profusely. But it wasn't from the heat, it was from fear.
Once they were out of Myron's sight, Joshua angrily scolded Hill, "Can you be more rational?"
"Buying ice cream is irrational?" Hill felt puzzled.
Joshua pointed at her, stammering ''you'' for a long time without saying anything. He couldn't easily reveal that he knew about Hill and Luann, or the plan would be ruined. "I mean, it's fall, so it's irrational to eat ice cream. You might get sick."
Hill nodded in agreement. "Makes sense."
"Hey, what's that over there? Let's go check it out." Joshua led Hill around, intentionally distancing themselves from Luann and Myron.
Once they were out of sight, he exclaimed. "Oh no, it looks like we got separated."
Hill squinted into the distance. "If Luann and Myron are still waiting for us, we just need to go 160 feet west, then turn right, walk 320 feet to the fork, take the rightmost path, and we'll see a small café. From the café, head southeast for 100 feet, and there's a restroom. Behind the restroom is a fast-food place, next to the ticket booth where we met."
Joshua was dumbfounded, thinking, 'Hill making this up? Could anyone remember such details? She must be showing off. Since neither of us remembers the way, this makes her seem more directionally aware.'
"Why do you lie?" Joshua questioned.
Hill said, "Don't believe me? Let's go back and see."
Hearing Hill's confident tone, Joshua felt she was using reverse psychology, forcing him not to turn back.
"Let's go! Check it out!" Joshua marched forward. Hill followed behind.
Twenty minutes later, they returned and saw Luann and Myron still waiting.
Luann looked puzzled. "Why did you take so long? And where's the ice cream?"
Joshua was silent. He really shouldn't have come back.
Myron frowned, his patience clearly at its limit. If it weren't for Luann, he would have left already. "Are we going or not?" His cold tone was filled with impatience.
Luann held his arm, smiling sweetly. "Let's go get our tickets. Hill, Joshua, you come too."
Joshua resignedly followed them. He wanted to pretend they got separated in the crowd. But it was a weekday, and there weren't many people.
As soon as they entered the amusement park, Luann said, "I want to play bumper cars."
Myron immediately nodded. "I'll join you."
Luann's bright eyes fixed on Hill. "What about you two?"
Joshua quickly said, "What's so fun about bumper cars? Let's play something thrilling. We don't like this."
Hill agreed, "Yeah, I want to play the drop tower."
"Yeah, I want to play... wait, what?" Joshua looked terrified."I think I regret this."
Hill grabbed his arm and decisively dragged him over.
Luann sighed. "Looks like Joshua is in for a tough time today."
Hill loved extreme challenges, but Joshua clearly wasn't that type.
Myron spoke slowly, "He's very adaptable. So don't worry about it."
