Chapter 428 Help Her Prove
The Upper West Side cops showing up made everyone chill out a bit.
[What's happening? This is getting intense.]
[Did someone pull some strings?]
[You're overthinking it. If you're curious, look up Geoffrey. He's the captain now, but he used to work for the big shots. Got it?]
[Got it.]
People started digging into Geoffrey's background. They all came to the same conclusion: this guy couldn't be bought.
Geoffrey didn't waste any time and started a live stream titled—"Want the Truth? Come In."
As a large crowd joined, Geoffrey sat in his chair, smoking a cigarette in front of the camera.
"Hang tight, we're setting up," he said, leaving everyone confused.
The chat blew up.
[What does that mean?]
[What's the truth?]
[Hurry up, stop being so mysterious!]
After about ten minutes, Geoffrey put out his cigarette and turned the camera around. The floor was covered in paper bills, like checks, covering the whole room.
"Take a look," he said, lighting another cigarette and standing up.
There was a path for him to walk through. He moved slowly, showing the bills up close with the camera.
The chat went silent because every bill had Luann's name on it. The paper was yellowed, and the dates told the story.
"If you can't see, I'll read it for you. It's a bit blurry," Geoffrey said, sitting on the floor and picking up a few bills.
"January 3, 2010, donation of $100,000. February 27, 2010, $50,000. August 14, 2014, $220,000. 2015... 2018, $8 million. 2021, $10 million."
Geoffrey paused and chuckled. "Here's the plan for building schools in remote areas. Here's the project for fixing dangerous buildings. This one's for road construction, replacing dirt roads."
"And this, hiring teachers for rural areas at high salaries. Explanation for donations to orphanages..." He added.
Geoffrey stood up and pointed to a stack of documents on the table. "Those are contracts and other bills that couldn't be laid out. I wanted to take pictures and post them, but there are too many. It'd take forever. Too much of a hassle. Alright, I'll leave the phone here. I have other stuff to do. Take your time."
As Geoffrey's footsteps faded, the live stream started buzzing again.
[10 years... How old was Luann then?]
[11? She started donating that young? No way.]
[Oh my god, did you notice? The big thing is she donated almost every month! This isn't just about money; it's a habit!]
[Honestly, I'd hesitate to donate even $100 a month.]
[Same here.]
[Why didn't Luann just say something? She could've cleared this up easily. We totally misunderstood her.]
[It's ridiculous. Why should Luann have to brag about it? She's always been low-key, unlike some people who flaunt their donations and need to be interviewed. It makes me sick.]
[Oh my god, this is unbelievable.]
By the time Myron found out, the situation had already flipped. He thought for a moment and dropped some more info.
Turns out, the small village where Luann used to live had totally transformed. The roads were solid, and the area now had elementary, middle, high schools, and even a university. Places that got Luann's donations were way better off.
Everyone was stunned. They realized Luann probably saw the charity gala as just another auction and didn't care about the glory. They were the ones arguing. As for Ally, her behavior looked even worse.
The ambassador's office also posted: [It's unbelievable that Luann quietly does good deeds can be criticized so harshly. It's heartbreaking.]
Those who had criticized Luann before didn't dare to speak, and only her fans were thanking her.
By the time Luann got off work, a bunch of reporters had gathered downstairs. Joshua scratched his head, confused. He'd been busy with company stuff all day and hadn't checked the internet, so he had no clue what was going on. "What's happening?"
Luann shrugged innocently. "No idea."
Joshua gave her a sidelong glance. "Usually, only you can cause such a big scene."
"How could that be? I'm super low-key; I wouldn't cause such a stir." Luann smiled faintly.
Joshua thought for a moment and agreed. "So what do we do now?"
Luann was silent for a moment, then suddenly noticed a dirty figure squeezing in. Her eyes lit up, and she immediately grabbed Hill. "Can you help me out?"
Ten minutes later, Hill was wearing Luann's clothes, a baseball cap, and a mask.
Joshua looked at her with disdain. "Oh my god, you're a grown man, and you can fit into a girl's clothes? Work on building some muscle. I'll bring some gym equipment home tomorrow."
Hill gave him a speechless look. "Alright." Then, she walked out as Luann had instructed.
As soon as people saw her, they surrounded her. Hill kept her head down and quickly cleared the area. Luann, wearing her work clothes, took the opportunity to leave with Joshua.
Joshua said, "You go ahead. I'll wait for Hill."
Luann gave him a strange look. "Don't you hate him? Why are you being so considerate now?"
Joshua cleared his throat, "He helped you, after all. I can't be that heartless, can I?"
Luann thought seriously. "Joshua, you are right..."
