Chapter 17 Publicly Shamed

When Luann Weaver came to the company this morning, she noticed that Alisha Mullen's necklace looked very familiar.
After thinking for a moment, she remembered that she had bought a similar one before.
Because she had too many accessories, sometimes she would put them in her bag carelessly after taking them off, and she happened to put it in this bag.
"What else do you have to say, Luann Weaver!" Edna Barker questioned her.
Luann Weaver coldly replied, "This necklace is mine."
Edna Barker picked it up and showed it to everyone, "Come on, take a close look, this is clearly the one Alisha wore this morning!"
"Luann Weaver, can you really come up with such a lie?"
Luann Weaver smiled indifferently, "Are you saying that as the heiress of the Weaver Family, I can't even afford a necklace worth several tens of thousands?"
Edna Barker’s expression changed.
After some thought, Luann Weaver had been away from the countryside for four years since she came back.
The Weaver Family had never been featured in newspapers, let alone any high society events!
From this, it can be deduced that Luann Weaver is not favored in the Weaver Family at all!
Edna Barker suddenly gained confidence, "Don't change the subject! Can such a coincidence really happen in this world?"
"You have been in the company for two years, but I have never seen you.”
"Pfft! I've worn this one before!"
Luann Weaver glanced at Alisha Mullen and casually said, "If you like it, it's yours."
"So you're saying it's a gift if you get caught? It's obviously stolen!" Edna Barker's tone was aggressive.
Alisha Mullen also spoke up at this moment, "Luann Weaver, if you really liked this necklace, why didn't you just tell me? Why go through all this shady business?"
"I could easily have my husband bring one back for you for free on his next business trip. After all, we've been colleagues for two years."
Listening to her mocking tone, Luann Weaver sneered, "Do you think I care?"
Onlookers began whispering to each other.
"Luann Weaver is really audacious, isn't she?"
"Yeah, and she still doesn't admit it even when caught red-handed..."
"Wow, how can someone have such thick skin in this day and age!"
"Alisha was clearly giving her a way out, but Luann Weaver doesn't know how to appreciate it."
Edna Barker smiled smugly, determined to completely expose Luann Weaver's facade.
"Luann Weaver, you keep insisting that you bought this necklace."
"Fine! I'll call the store directly and have their staff come over to verify!"
"Sales records don't lie, right?"
Then, I'll make the staff member slap her in the face!
Although this jewelry store couldn't compare to the brand Sunshine, it had a good reputation nationwide and exceptional customer service.
After receiving Edna Barker's call, they immediately dispatched someone from the local store.
It was already the end of the workday at the company.
But not a single employee left; everyone wanted to see how this drama would unfold!
In less than half an hour, the store's employee arrived.
She first examined the style of the necklace and smiled, "This is indeed our product, but it has been out of stock for six months now. If you want to purchase it, you'll have to buy it abroad."
Edna Barker sarcastically looked at Luann Weaver and said, "What's this? You're not trying to say that you bought it six months ago, right?"
Luann Weaver remained calm, a hint of a smile playing on her rosy lips, seemingly confident.
Seeing her silence, Edna Barker muttered, "Let's see how long you can keep pretending!"
"Hey! Can you quickly check the shopping records for this person named Luann Weaver?"
The employee was slightly displeased but still maintained a smile, "Sure, our shopping records are accessible nationwide. Whether it was purchased abroad or domestically, we can find the records. Miss Weaver, is that correct? Please come over here and enter your ID number, if you don't mind."
Luann Weaver walked over and entered a string of numbers on the notebook she had brought.
A very long wait followed.
The air is quiet, only the sound of the mouse wheel scrolling.
I thought it would be quick to look up, but I didn't expect to wait for a long time without any response from the employee.
Edna Barker couldn't help but ask, "Haven't you found it yet? Why are you taking so long!"
The employee spoke calmly, "I'm sorry, but I really can't find it."
Edna Barker immediately mocked, "Luann Weaver, what else do you have to say..."
The employee interrupted her.
"Miss Weaver is our store's top VIP, with a reputation score of 100. Her last purchase was three days ago."
"Because our purchase records are sorted from high to low amounts."
"This necklace is very cheap in our store, and it doesn't get much attention, so we didn't restock it after the first month of pre-sales."
"Presumably, with Miss Weaver's spending level, this kind of item should be on the last page."
As soon as this statement came out, the whole room was shocked!
The diamond necklace that looked so luxurious to them turned out to be nothing special in their store?
And most importantly, Luann Weaver's purchase history couldn't be traced because she bought too many expensive items?
Everyone rubbed their ears in disbelief, thinking they had misheard!
Someone cautiously asked, "Can...can I see what Miss Weaver bought?"
The employee turned his notebook around, presenting the page to everyone.
When they saw the contents clearly, they couldn't help but gasp.
A random trinket worth millions?
Strawberry brooch, crystal bracelet...
Is that it?
Isn't it better to spend millions on a house?
Is this the joy of being rich?
"Luann...that ring on Luann Weaver's little finger, could it be...could it also be from your store?"
Everyone turned their gaze to Luann Weaver's hand.
The ring looked very ordinary and inconspicuous, highlighting her slender fingers.
The employee nodded.
"This is our latest design this year, and it's priced at one million dollars."
"One...one million?!"
"Oh my god..."
This is the epitome of being ridiculously wealthy!
What is the concept of one million?
It's the kind of money that people like them, who earn a mere three thousand dollars a month, would struggle to make even after working hard for decades!
If the employee hadn't said it with his own mouth, they would never have thought that this ring was so valuable!
In other words, Luann Weaver didn't even blink an eye while buying these things.
Was it necessary for her to steal a worthless necklace that couldn't even be displayed in their store?
Some people couldn't help but understand the meaning behind Luann Weaver's earlier statement of "Do you think I care?"
Those who had previously spoken up for Alisha Mullen felt a burning sensation on their faces!
