Chapter 454 The Best Assist

Holly shook her head like crazy. "No way. Don't do anything rash. If you go through with this, Luann's gonna be in danger too."

Joshua looked totally lost.

Holly was so worked up, she might as well have been putting on a show for Joshua. "Myron's a total psycho; we all know that. He's still got that violent streak; he's just a bit nicer 'cause he likes Luann."

Holly pinched her fingers together, showing a tiny amount. "But if you tell him now that Luann's all cozy with another guy, hugging and everything, you think he'll just let it slide? Luann's toast."

Holly stuck out her tongue, tilted her head, and rolled her eyes.

Joshua shivered, thinking, 'Yeah, Myron's not the forgiving type. When he dealt with Wilber and Grace, he was ruthless, and they're family. If they weren't, who knows what would've happened?'

Joshua's mind flashed to a horrible image of Luann. He got goosebumps all over.

"You're right," Joshua said, still freaked out. "Thank God you stopped me, or I would've messed up big time today."

If Holly hadn't shown up, he would've made that call. And once it was done, there'd be no going back.

"So what do we do now? We can't just let this go on, can we? If we do, Myron's gonna find out eventually, and Luann's done for," Joshua said, suddenly scared.

Holly touched her chin, looking deep in thought. "We need to cut our losses while we can."

Joshua frowned. "How do we do that?"

Holly patted his shoulder. "Who's really to blame here?"

Joshua didn't even think about it. "It's Hill. He must've seduced Luann."

He thought, 'Why else would Luann not be into a good-looking guy like me and go for him, who's broke and smells?'

"Exactly." Holly clapped her hands.

She added, "So the problem isn't Luann, it's Hill. If Hill backs off, all these problems go away, right?"

Joshua had a lightbulb moment. "You're totally right."

Holly raised her chin a bit, feeling proud. She never thought she'd be able to fool someone so completely.

Joshua's excitement turned to worry. "But how do we get Hill to back off?"

Holly didn't answer but grabbed his wrist. They walked to a nearby restaurant.

After ordering their food, Holly finally spoke, "Let's think backward. Why is Hill getting close to Luann? For sex or money?"

Joshua said, "Definitely both. Luann's gorgeous and generous."

Holly leaned back in her chair, looking all confident. "It's simple. If someone just as rich and good-looking shows up in front of Hill right now, problem solved. Think about it, being with Luann is risky for him. If Myron finds out, Hill could be toast. If a single person appears at this time, wouldn't it be easy for Hill to fall into our trap?"

Joshua nodded, mulling over Holly's words. After a bit, he looked at her with admiration. "You're really selfless."

Holly looked confused. Joshua said, "I didn't expect you to volunteer yourself. In that case, Luann's fate is in your hands."

Holly raised her hand. "Wait, I think you misunderstood."

"How could I misunderstand? Rich and beautiful, isn't that you?" Joshua said.

Holly couldn't help but smile. Compliments always felt good. "Even though I want to help Luann, I actually already have a boyfriend."

Joshua looked skeptical. "Really? I've never seen him. You're not just saying that to avoid getting involved, are you?"

Holly glared at him. "Of course not. My boyfriend is Eddy. If you don't believe me, I'll call him. We've been living together for a while."

Joshua didn't back down; he even raised his chin. "Then call him, put it on speaker."

Holly silently cursed, reluctantly picking up her phone. As she dialed, she hoped Eddy would play along.

The call connected quickly, and Holly cleared her throat. "Are you up?"

Eddy said, "Yeah."

"I just remembered I left my clothes on the balcony. Can you bring them inside? The weather forecast says it might rain soon," Holly tried to sound as natural as possible.

Eddy chuckled. "I'm not home right now, babe."

Holly immediately gave Joshua a look, as if to say she wasn't lying.

Then Eddy said, "If you call me 'honey,' I'll go back right now and get them for you."

Normally, Holly would have cursed Eddy out. But now, it sounded more like a playful exchange between a couple. She had no choice but to sweetly say, "Honey, could you please go back and get them?"

She didn't wait for Eddy's response and quickly hung up. Then she took a sip of coffee to swallow the bitterness rising in her stomach, forcing a smile.

Joshua's temples throbbed. "If that's the case, our plan can't be carried out, right?"

Holly regained her serious expression. "Of course it can. I think, for Hill, whoever has money is the boss. His family is so poor, he might have just taken the wrong path temporarily. So, if there's no suitable woman, a man could work too."

Joshua's face changed slightly. "What do you mean?"

"I mean, why don't you try to build a relationship with Hill, reduce his meetings with Luann, and then shower him with money? Maybe Hill will follow you," Holly suggested.

Joshua slammed his hand on the table. "I'm straight. Got it?"
