Chapter 386 Evidence
Luann's face was all innocent. "Just came to see you, Dad. Why you acting like I got some secret plan?"
Mike laughed, cold as ice. "Cut the crap; it's just us. Don't think I don't know. You're just like your mom—both of you are sneaky!"
Luann's smile vanished in a heartbeat.
When Myron's eyes flashed with anger and he was ready to jump in, Luann raised her hand to stop him. She clearly didn't want him involved.
"When it comes to being sneaky, you're the pro," Luann said slowly, stressing each word. "You know exactly how you clawed your way up. And you know what really went down in that car crash."
Mike's throat tightened at the mention of the crash, but he didn't back down. "That crash was just bad luck! What does it have to do with me? Luann, I'm your father! Is it right for you to accuse me like this? Yeah, I remarried, but I did everything I could! I looked for you but couldn't find you! If you didn't come back, how is that my fault?"
Luann chuckled like she'd heard the funniest joke, her shoulders shaking slightly. "If you really looked for us, how could you not know we were just a two-hour drive away in the Upper West Side? Did you even try?"
Mike's pupils shrank, fear flashing in his eyes.
"With the Wright family's connections, finding a few people wouldn't have been hard, right?" Her voice, once angry, now sounded almost ghostly, each word hitting Mike like a punch.
Tears shimmered in Luann's eyes, making them sparkle heartbreakingly. "All these years, I never got how someone could be so cruel. Mom gave you a rich life, dignity, and status. She even fought with her dad to be with you. Why'd you push away a woman who was totally devoted to you? What did she do to deserve such cruelty?"The long-buried truth was out, and Mike stopped hiding. He roared like a beast. "She used me first! Don't think I don't know. the Wright family just wanted a controllable man to keep at home and have a kid to inherit the business! That way, the fortune stayed in the family. Did you really think I'd be so easily manipulated?"
Luann's eyes grew colder, like mist spreading over mountains at dawn. "If that's true, why is my last name Weaver?"
Mike's face twisted as he shouted, "Stop pretending! Just hearing your name makes me sick! Why come back after eighteen years to ruin my life?"
"Your whole life was given by my mom! Without her, you'd be nothing!" Luann snapped.
"Well, too bad. I got the Wright family's fortune and wasted it for years." Mike sneered, his eyes bulging with madness. "Watching the Wright family fall apart and become the Weaver family was so satisfying! Now it's just an empty shell. If you want it, take it back. I've had my fun for over twenty years." Mike leaned back, looking content.
Luann stared at him, expressionless. After a moment, she closed her eyes, feeling a deep sorrow. Even now, Mike had no remorse for Shirley.
"Your good days are over," Luann said calmly.
Mike didn't care, thinking he was in good health. Once Juliet got the money from Wilber, they could leave the Upper West Side and escape from Luann.
"Dad, you think you've hidden well all these years? Think it's impossible to find evidence after so long?"
Mike's relaxed posture tensed. He looked at her warily.
Luann extended her hand. Myron handed her a folder. She flung the documents at Mike's face. "These are enough to put you in prison for life! Dad, why don't you smile now?"
Mike picked up the documents, flipping through them frantically. There were enough to convict him. "This is impossible! Twenty-four years! How did you find these? Luann, what do you want?"
Luann remained expressionless. "To avenge my mom. Did you think I'd let you go?"
Mike's temple throbbed. "Are you gonna call the cops?"
Luann's lips curled up slowly, like a slow-motion scene in Mike's eyes.
Thinking he might be sent to prison, Mike crawled to the ground and knelt before Luann.
"Luann, I'm your dad. We share the same blood! Your mom may be dead, but I'm still here. I'll make up for all these years. I promise! Don't send me to prison, I'm begging you!" He knocked his head against the ground repeatedly.
Luann said, "The person you should be begging is not me."
