Chapter 399 Unworthy of Being a Father
The ward was creepily quiet. Mike, all bandaged up like a mummy, lay there feeling like his blood was running backward, making his head pound. He cursed in his head, 'Damn woman! This is all Luann's doing. She planned this.'
Brianna's eyes went wide in shock. That clear voice was Mike's. She couldn't wrap her head around the fact that he had hurt the Wright family twenty-three years ago. And now, he was going after Luann.
Four years back, when Luann came back to the Weaver family, they did a paternity test, and it showed Luann was Mike's real daughter. Brianna couldn't believe he was this heartless.
Tears welled up in Brianna's eyes as she looked at Mike. Her body was shaking uncontrollably.
She thought, 'Mike, the guy I've been with for over twenty years, is this cruel and ruthless? How is he any different from Juliet? He's even worse than Juliet, who won't pay for treatment.'
"Mike, how could you do this? Have you no shame?" Brianna's outburst left everyone in the room stunned.
Mike was even more shocked that sweet and kind Brianna would yell at him like this.
Brianna's hand reached out, trembling like crazy. "How could you treat Luann like this? Do you know that when you couldn't afford treatment, it was her who paid for it? She covered all the expenses alone. If it weren't for her, you'd be dead by now. And you have the nerve to accuse her. If it weren't for this video proving Luann's innocence, we would have all been fooled by you."
Brianna suddenly felt it was so unfair for Luann. Luann repaid evil with good. Even knowing that Mike had become like this because he tried to harm her, she was still big-hearted enough to act like nothing happened. But Mike was plotting against her!
Brianna felt a wave of disgust and nausea at his actions. The man she had been married to for so many years was a heartless demon.
Juliet felt things slipping out of her control. The sudden twist caught her off guard. What shocked her even more was Brianna's reaction, actually standing up for Luann.
Juliet said, "Mom, just one recording doesn't prove anything. Maybe Luann tricked Dad into saying that."
Myron said coldly, "But the video can prove it, right?"
Juliet fell silent. Brianna shook off Juliet's hand. In just a few days, she had seen the true colors of Juliet and Mike. Both of them had let her down completely.
The officer got that this was clearly a family mess. He said to Luann, "Ms. Weaver, you can choose to sue or settle this privately."
Before Luann could speak, Juliet eagerly said, "Of course, we'll settle it privately. Luann, you don't want to disgrace the Weaver family, do you?"
Luann shot her a cold look. "It's Dad who's disgraced, not the Weaver family. If he chose to pull this crap, he should've seen this coming."
Seeing Luann's stubborn stance, Juliet decided to go all in. "If it weren't for you refusing to support Dad and pay for his treatment, he wouldn't have done this. Officer, there's more to this story. My dad is seriously ill and only has a few months left. And the treatment costs a fortune. Luann is part of the Weaver family. It's only right for her to take care of her dad, isn't it? But she not only refused to pay but also bought a burial plot to humiliate him. He was already seriously ill, and this added stress must have driven him to do something wrong."
The officer replied, "Since it's a family matter, you should resolve it yourselves."
Before coming here, they had already learned about Mike's condition. Since Luann didn't seem eager to press charges, they decided to let it slide.
Luann smiled lightly. She didn't mind. No matter what, Mike's fate was sealed.
Juliet breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you." After they left, she finally looked at Luann with a smug expression, as if to say: Let's see what you can do now.
Luann ignored her and walked away with Myron.
Brianna hurried to catch up. "Luann."
Luann paused and looked back at her.
"Luann, I'm sorry. I never thought Mike would go this far. If I had known earlier that his car accident was caused by trying to harm you, I would never have saved him." Brianna felt a crushing sense of regret. She never expected that in the end, she would be the one causing Luann the most trouble.
Luann smiled gently and took her hand. "Brianna, this isn't your fault. But no matter what, I don't want you to get involved anymore."
Brianna nodded repeatedly. "Okay, I'll do whatever you say."
After watching Luann and Myron leave, Brianna returned to the hospital room.
Juliet glanced at her, pouting and sarcastically said, "If you like defending Luann so much, why don't you be her mom?"
Brianna's eyes showed sadness and coldness. She suddenly raised her hand and slapped Juliet hard.
Juliet was stunned. "You actually hit me for that bitch?"
Brianna slapped her again. "I wish I could beat you more. Juliet, look at what you've done. You are just as heartless as your dad! "
Juliet held her face, staring at Brianna in disbelief.
Brianna continued, "You not only refused to pay for your dad's treatment but also stole my money, and now you're falsely accusing Luann. Don't you think you've done enough wrong?"
Juliet's throat tightened. "What nonsense are you talking about? What did she do to make you take her side like this?"
