Chapter 478 The Girl Emily
Recalling the bold words he had said to save Emily.
Alvin inexplicably felt a bit embarrassed.
So his voice was a bit low.
Trevor, being older and hard of hearing, didn't catch it.
Alvin quickly said, "My name is Alvin Curtis."
Emily watched them talk and quietly brought a chair for Alvin.
Alvin immediately sat down.
After waiting outside the airport for three days and sleeping on the streets for so long, he no longer cared about his image or any sense of shame.
Soon, Emily cooked a pot of porridge.
Although Alvin had eaten two pieces of bread, he was still starving.
Alvin drank three large bowls with tears in his eyes.
He realized he wasn't full.
He felt like he would be hungry again after a couple of trips to the bathroom.
When he wanted to serve himself a fourth bowl, he found there wasn't much left and felt too embarrassed to take more.
Trevor said, "It's good for young people to eat more. If you're not full, have some more."
Alvin waved his hands repeatedly, "No, no, no, I'm really full."
After the meal, Emily got up to wash the dishes.
Alvin sat there awkwardly, not knowing what to do, so he stood up, "I'll go for a walk outside and use the restroom."
"Okay."
Once outside, Alvin let out a long breath.
He limped towards the end of the alley.
He heard a group of elderly people talking.
"Emily is really pitiful."
"Yeah, it's so tragic."
Alvin couldn't help but ask, "What happened to Emily's family?"
Because the people living here had been around for many years, they immediately recognized Alvin as the guy Emily had just brought back.
"Well, they're not from this country. Trevor said that when Emily's mom was pregnant with her, their house was being demolished."
"They were supposed to get a large sum of money from the demolition, but Emily's dad spent it all. Later, they found out that Emily's dad had a lot of debt from loan sharks, and they came after the family."
"The family lost everything, the house was gone, and they didn't get the demolition money."
"After that, they thought Emily's dad would learn his lesson and live a good life."
"But then he was caught cheating by Emily's mom, who got so angry she gave birth prematurely. Emily's mom died right after giving birth."
"Trevor was furious and came over to find his good-for-nothing son after raising Emily a bit."
"Who would have thought that Emily's dad would get into trouble here and die early."
"Trevor's wife died early, and his son and daughter-in-law are both dead."
"So he just settled down here, the rent is cheap, and he raised Emily."
After hearing this, Alvin felt a bit heavy-hearted.
"Speaking of which, it's really pitiful. Trevor's health is bad, and he's been bedridden for years."
"Emily is very filial, taking care of him every day and going out to collect trash to make a living."
"But fortunately, Emily is an adult now."
"Even if Trevor really passes away, she can take care of herself."
Alvin's mind flashed with the image of the small Emily, feeling a bit surprised.
"She's an adult?"
"Yeah, she just turned eighteen in January."
Alvin found it hard to believe, "But she doesn't look eighteen at all! So thin and small."
As if a gust of wind could blow her over.
The sighs from everyone grew louder.
"Emily works so hard every day, sometimes she doesn't even get to eat, just to leave some food for her grandpa. When she needed nutrition to grow, she didn't get to eat anything good, so naturally, she didn't grow much."
Alvin frowned deeply.
A deep sense of pity spread from his heart.
He didn't know how he got back, but when he came to his senses, he was already at Emily's door.
Emily stood on the stairs, smiling at him.
Then she pointed to the water.
Alvin's first thought was, this water bill must be quite a lot.
"No, no, I don't need it."
He thought he was helping Emily, but he didn't expect that he hadn't helped at all and had even burdened her.
Emily pointed to his face and clothes.
Alvin didn't understand.
Emily directly pulled him to the mirror.
He was shocked by what he saw!
Oh my god, who is this person in the mirror?
His face was covered in dirt, making it unrecognizable, with a cut at the corner of his eye from a stone, the scab still there.
His chin was bruised in several places, and his face was swollen asymmetrically.
As for his clothes, after rolling on the ground so many times, they were far from clean.
"Do you want me to wash up and change?" Alvin asked.
Emily nodded and walked out, closing the door.
Alvin awkwardly reopened it.
"But I don't have any clothes to change into."
Emily thought for a moment and took out two pieces of clothing from a cloth bag at the foot of the bed.
Alvin glanced around.
There was no wardrobe in the room, so this must be where Emily and her grandpa's clothes were kept. He didn't expect there to be so few.
"Thank you."
Emily handed Alvin Trevor's shorts and T-shirt.
Emily smiled a bit shyly.
After wetting a towel and wiping himself down, Alvin called Emily back in.
"Thank you."
"If it weren't for you, I'd still be on the streets."
"But I won't bother you anymore. After all, you have it tough too."
"But don't worry, when I get back, I'll bring you a lot of money to repay you!"
Emily's expression changed slightly upon hearing this and she started gesturing frantically.
Alvin couldn't understand.
"What is she saying?"
Trevor said, "She says not to talk about money like that. If it weren't for you risking yourself today, she would have been beaten up by those punks."
"So you and she are helping each other."
"She would be happy for you to stay here if you don't mind sharing a bed with me."
Alvin instinctively said, "I don't mind, how could I mind?"
Sleeping here is definitely better than sleeping on the streets!
Emily breathed a sigh of relief and smiled.
Her young face showed a girl's shyness.
With things said to this point, Alvin felt it wouldn't be right to refuse. He might as well stay here for now and figure out how to contact Luann and the others later.
