Chapter 95 Stirring the Wind
Alisha's eyes welled up with tears.
Luann looked at her calmly and walked into the tea room.
The voices inside abruptly ceased.
Only after Luann left did the discussions carefully resume.
“She didn’t hear anything just now, did she?”
"Even if she did, it doesn't matter. We weren't saying anything bad about her."
The employee who just served the coffee sat at the crowded table, full of confusion.
“What’s going on?”
"Didn't Alisha just talk about this cooperation? I saw her signature on the document."
A woman with an air of superiority raised her chin, tutting as she lightly tapped the tabletop with her finger.
"You took a leave of absence recently and didn't go abroad with us. You must not know what exactly happened."
“There’s a hidden story behind all this.”
"When we arrived in the United States, Dylan, the manager from the Page Group, specially sent someone to pick us up and arranged hotels and restaurants thoughtfully."
"At that time, I was still surprised. With the current status of the Gilbert Group, how could they withstand such grand treatment?"
"Later, we found out that these two were not only high school classmates but also had that kind of relationship in private."
“After dinner, they deliberately separated from all of us and went to the bar alone.”
"Don't forget, before we departed, Alisha swore that this project was almost certain to succeed."
“Whether they discussed it at the table or in bed, we don’t know.”
The group of people couldn't help but sigh.
“I never thought she would be like this...”
"No wonder she's always so wealthy, taking from both her husband and Dylan. People can be deceiving."
Alisha stood outside the tea room, trembling with anger.
Tears uncontrollably streamed down her face, her crying forced to be suppressed, accompanied by a strong sourness and suffocating feeling.
She had thought that Luann’s intervention would help her succeed in getting a promotion.
But she didn't expect that shortly after handing over the signed contract to Wilber, her colleagues who were on the same level reported her, embellishing the rumors and smearing her relationship with Dylan.
Because of this, Wilber not only didn't promote her, but even demoted her!
Alisha never imagined that these colleagues who flattered her in everyday life
would stab her viciously from behind!
Now they were spreading rumors in the company, causing her to be constantly subjected to contemptuous gazes wherever she went!
Alisha wiped away her tears and turned around.
As soon as the lunch break bell rang, everyone hurriedly got up and flocked towards Luann.
"Luann, let's go have lunch together."
“Yeah, there’s a new restaurant nearby that’s really good!”
"Violet Garden?"
“Yes, have you been there too?”
"Oh."
"Didn't you hear? It seems like Violet Garden restaurant offended some powerful people and was told to shut down yesterday!"
“No way! Who’s so powerful? Isn’t it owned by Ally?”
Luann listened to the chattering conversation around her, causing a throbbing headache.
She stood up coldly and said, “Excuse me, please move, don’t block the way.”
Watching Luann walk unsteadily, Alisha hurriedly followed.
As they reached the front entrance of the company, Luann didn't lift her feet all the way and stumbled.
Her arm was grabbed by someone.
"Are you okay?"
Luann’s expression was indifferent as she replied, “Thank you.”
The two of them silently went to a nearby restaurant and requested a private room.
Luann poured herself a cup of tea at a calm pace.
“If there’s something you want to say, just say it.”
Alisha bit her lip tightly, her face filled with shame.
She forced a bitter smile and spoke in a low, feeble voice.
"Now I understand how you feel. Being ostracized by everyone feels so bad..."
"You're overthinking things."
Luann interrupted her.
Alisha froze, looking at Luann in confusion, hoping to receive a response.
“The wind rustles the grass.”
"When there's no wind, the grass stands still."
“Why let this kind of person affect your mood?”
In the end, they're just a bunch of opportunists.
Alisha's situation is typical. When the wall collapses, everyone wants to come and spit on it.
"You've been in the manager position for quite some time. Can't you tell who is buttering you up?"
“I’m afraid you really enjoy being flattered and praised by everyone.”
Alisha: "..."
In the past, if Luann had said such sharp words, she would have been furious.
But now, it was like a bucket of cold water being poured on her, washing away the dirty barriers in front of her, allowing her to see everything behind.
Luann was right.
People all have a sense of vanity.
She was no exception.
After a long silence, Alisha suddenly curled her lips and chuckled softly.
"I just wanted to prove myself in front of Carlton. I don't want to be a housewife and let my own light be dimmed."
"I enjoy showing off, bragging, and seeing the envious looks from these people."
"Although I know in my heart that when they praise me, deep down they hope I don't do well."
She looked up, her eyes complex as she gazed at the woman in front of her, who showed no reaction.
“Luann, I have to admit, sometimes I admire you.”
"But... I really don't understand why you're helping me."
“Or... why you’re helping Gilbert Group.”
"If it weren't for you this time, the Gilbert Group might have really gone under."
“Wilber betrayed you and got involved with your sister. Aren’t you angry at all?”
Luann took a sip of tea, her pitch-black eyes calm and without a ripple.
The name "Wilber" no longer stirred any ripples in her heart.
"If you didn't ask me to come along with you that time, you could have completed the contract by yourself."
"The result would be the same."
"Besides, this Wilber, a clown, can't make any waves."
Luann didn't even have the thought of acquiring the small Gilbert Group.
What's the use of acquiring it?
A pathetic company that would only hold her back.
"That's true," Alisha muttered quietly.
When Alisha spoke with the vice president of Page Group, she understood everything clearly.
She knew that Luann was not an ordinary person.
"Moreover, this move is not in vain. Perhaps it will help me take a small step forward in the Curtis family..."
"I have been married for so long, there must be some progress."
Alisha didn't hear Luann's murmured words.
After having lunch, the two returned to the company.
From a distance, Luann saw Wilber pacing anxiously by her office chair.
As Luann frowned, hesitating whether to go over or not, She noticed that Wilber answered a phone call and quickly left with a smile on his face, without knowing what the other person said.
