Chapter 429 Let's Sleep Together

Joshua said, "I told you this whole mess has something to do with you. The moment Hill stepped out in your clothes, reporters swarmed him."

Luann nodded and patted his shoulder. "I know it. I'm out."

Half an hour later, Hill showed up. The car door clicked open, and she hopped in, buckling up like it was her own ride.

Joshua glanced at her, frowning. "Why are you still in those clothes?"

Hill rolled her eyes. "What, should I strip and walk around naked?"

Joshua snorted, picturing Hill running naked down the street. But her legs were something else—long, slender, and straight.

"Damn it!" Joshua slapped his forehead, surprised by his own thoughts. The pain made him dizzy.

"Change out of those clothes as soon as we get home. They're an eyesore," Joshua said harshly, starting the car.

Hill was baffled by his sudden outburst. "Then watch the road, not me."

Back home, Hill took a shower and changed into pajamas Joshua had bought for her.

After dinner, they went to their own rooms. That was their usual routine. But just as Joshua was about to fall asleep, the door banged open, and Hill stormed in.

Joshua was startled, diving under the covers. "Why don't you knock? I haven't even put on my pants!"

It wasn't their first day living together. Ever since Hill moved in, Joshua had been extra cautious, locking the door every day. But he eventually realized Hill was too absorbed in her own stuff to bother him, so he stopped locking it.

Hill lowered her head, her bangs covering half her eyes, hiding the interest in her gaze.

Joshua was right; he had just finished showering, water still dripping from his hair, half his body under the covers, exposing a shoulder with steam rising from it, his hand desperately pulling up the blanket.

"What are you looking at?" Joshua cursed, his face pale with urgency.

Hill wondered if she had the wrong script with Joshua. "What's wrong with me looking at you? Don't act like you're about to be violated."

Joshua's face turned grim. His teeth ground together audibly. "Hill, say that again!"

Hill shrugged innocently. "Haven't you ever lived in a dorm or showered with others?"

Joshua shot back, "I always had a single room." He'd been in private schools his whole life, always having his own room and bathroom, so he never had to deal with stuff like this.

Hill's face fell. "Oh, right, you're from the wealthy Curtis family, getting everything you want. Unlike me, where even taking a shower was a luxury. Sometimes, when I saw a street-cleaning truck, I wished I could strip and run under it."

Her voice was flat but full of emotion. Joshua immediately felt guilty. "Sorry, I didn't mean to show off. I'm just not used to this kind of interaction, even with guys." He knew communal showers existed, but he personally couldn't handle them.

"Fine."

Joshua awkwardly asked, "So, what do you need from me?"

Hill said, "To claim credit."

"Huh?" Joshua didn't get it.

"I helped Luann with something today."

Joshua nodded. "I know, but why come to me? You didn't help me."

"But Luann is your family, so you could help repay the favor, right?"

Joshua felt a headache coming on. "Alright, what do you want?" He was already prepared to write Hill a check.

Unexpectedly, Hill said, "Can I sleep with you?"

Joshua was confused, even looking at Hill differently. He thought, 'Hill couldn't be after my good looks, right?'

Hill explained, "Don't get me wrong. I'm just a bit afraid of the dark. I've been sleeping poorly lately. Every time I close my eyes, I feel like I'm still sleeping on the streets, exposed to the elements. Those days are still fresh in my memory."

Joshua said, "If you're afraid of the dark, just turn on the light. I'm not a lamp; sleeping with me won't help."

"I don't need a lamp; I need company." Hill lowered her head, her oversized pajamas making her look even smaller.

Joshua's mouth twitched. "Fine."

Hill immediately took a step forward, delighted.

Joshua added, "But I'm not used to sharing a bed. If you're scared, you can make a bed on the floor. Is that okay?"

Hill nodded. "Okay."

"But you have to..." Before Joshua could finish, Hill quickly walked over and yanked off his blanket.

Joshua's heart-wrenching scream echoed. "Oh my God! Give me back my blanket!"

"Sorry, I forgot." Hill let go, averting her gaze as if she hadn't seen anything.

Joshua gritted his teeth. "Get out first. Come back in when I tell you to."

"Okay." Outside, Hill leaned against the cold wall, exhaling deeply. Her ears were a bit red.

After about half an hour, Joshua's still-angry voice came through, "Get in here."

Hill walked in calmly. The floor was already made up with a mattress and blanket. She immediately crawled into the makeshift bed, looking like she was about to fall asleep.

This genuine behavior dispelled Joshua's doubts. He guessed Hill really just wanted company.
