Chapter 18 Being Kept
Especially Edna Bark...
She stood there, her face alternating between pale and green, completely unable to believe it.
Alisha Mullen was the first to react, quickly trying to smooth things over. "Misunderstanding, it's all just a misunderstanding..."
"Edna Barker, honestly, you really couldn't wait to jump to conclusions before figuring things out, causing such a big spectacle. Hurry up and apologize to Luann Weaver."
In just a few words, she dissociated herself completely from the whole ordeal.
Edna Barker's pale lips were tightly sealed, seemingly unable to speak.
"Edna Barker, perhaps she is not as experienced as you, and thus acts impulsively."
"Don't bother with her." Luann Weaver looked at Edna Barker with a smile that wasn't quite a smile, but spoke to Alisha Mullen. "Who is really bothering whom?"
Alisha Mullen choked up. Initially, Luann Weaver clearly didn't want to make a fuss. It was Edna Barker who repeatedly provoked her, even going so far as to rummage through her bag, and then bringing in the accountants.
It seemed like she wanted to firmly establish today's incident as theft on Luann Weaver. Unexpectedly, the situation took a complete turn, and it was Luann Weaver who forcefully pressed her to the ground!
Alisha Mullen forced a smile and grabbed Edna Barker's arm. "Edna Barker, it truly was you who made a mistake in this matter. Apologize quickly."
Edna Barker remained silent, seemingly refusing to bow her head to Luann Weaver.
"Edna Barker!" Alisha Mullen couldn't help but shout out in frustration, her anger making her feel like her head was about to explode. If she didn't see that this fool was intending to help her, she wouldn't be speaking up for Edna Barker!
Luann Weaver calmly said, "Forget it, there’s no need to force it."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that the matter would end there.
But they didn't expect... "Let's leave this matter to the police to handle."
Edna Barker's expression suddenly panicked, not expecting Luann Weaver to be so heartless!
Alisha Mullen awkwardly said, "This...this little matter, there's no need to involve the police, it's not good for our company's reputation..."
"So you mean, today's incident should just be forgotten?" Luann Weaver looked at Alisha Mullen with a smile that wasn't quite a smile, her black eyes containing a layer of coldness.
Alisha Mullen swallowed hard, unsure of how to respond. Just then, someone interjected. "Luann Weaver, it's true that Edna Barker acted impulsively, but you also haven't suffered any losses, right? Is it necessary to go this far?"
Luann Weaver nodded thoughtfully, her tone filled with coldness.
"Belittling my character, tarnishing my reputation, openly slandering me in front of everyone, and even secretly rummaging through my things, do you think there's no harm done?"
"..."
Edna Barker was truly panicked this time.
If this matter escalated, how could she continue to stay in the company?
"Luann Weaver, I...I know I was wrong, I'm sorry!"
"Don't call the police, we're all colleagues, please spare me some dignity..."
Edna Barker grabbed Luann Weaver's sleeve, looking at her with pleading eyes.
Luann Weaver shook off her hand and walked away decisively.
Everyone could see Luann Weaver's determination and it was clear that Edna Barker might have to leave.
Edna Barker had no choice but to put her last hope on Alisha Mullen, after all, she did this for Alisha Mullen's sake.
"Manager! Manager, I offended Luann Weaver all because of you! Please don't abandon me!"
Listening to these words that seemed like moral manipulation, Alisha Mullen glanced at her with disdain, but spoke amiably.
"You've really caused a huge mess this time! I advise you to submit your resignation in front of her, maybe it can calm Luann Weaver down."
Edna Barker widened her eyes in disbelief.
"What do you mean, Manager?"
"Everything I've done was to help you!"
Alisha Mullen sighed. "Even the suggestions I'm giving you now are to help you."
With that, she waved her hand, indicating for everyone to go back.
That evening, the company's WeChat group exploded.
Employees from other departments vaguely heard some rumors and asked about it in the group. When they found out what happened, they were shocked.
"Could that employee be a spy?"
"The sales records are clearly displayed. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't believe it either."
"Ah, but I think Edna Barker's actions, although impulsive, shouldn't warrant involving the police, right?"
"She really reported it?"
"Yeah, Edna Barker has already been taken to the police station."
"This... Luann Weaver is too ruthless!"
Alisha Mullen: "Sigh, actually, this is partly my fault for not stopping Edna Barker."
"Manager, don't blame yourself. If anyone should be blamed, it's Luann Weaver for being so heartless!"
"Um, I'm just curious, the Weaver Family isn't some wealthy family, how can they afford such high expenses?"
"You might not believe it, but when I was leaving the company, I saw a Rolls-Royce picking Luann Weaver up at the entrance..."
"Shocking!"
"Shocking +2..."
"Is she being kept by someone?"
"Can't say. Who was there to pick her up..."
Who is that person?
A middle-aged man in his fifties...
Juliet Weaver watched the messages flashing on her phone one by one, a sarcastic smile playing at the corner of her mouth.
The bathroom door creaked open.
Wilber Gilbert walked out and asked, "What are you looking at?"
Juliet Weaver quickly put down her phone and replied, "Nothing..."
"Sneakily checking my phone? Don't worry, I have no contact with Luann Weaver anymore."
Juliet Weaver nodded and walked up to him, embracing him tightly.
"I know, Wilber. I believe you."
Wilber Gilbert smiled and hugged her back, sitting down by the bed. He casually picked his phone up and glanced at it.
Coincidentally, the chat content happened to be with an old man, and the conversation below had not been shown.
Wilber Gilbert's face immediately darkened.
Juliet Weaver looked at his expression, feeling somewhat suspicious.
"Wilber, are you jealous?"
Wilber Gilbert snapped out of it, his voice turning cold, "I just didn't expect her to be so fickle."
"My sister is becoming more and more high-profile. I'm really afraid of how Myron Curtis would react if he found out about these things..."
"And I'm even more afraid that the Curtis family will blame us, the Weaver Family, for this and stop funding us in the future."
Juliet Weaver became more and more aggrieved as she spoke.
"Don't worry." Wilber Gilbert patted her head, "As long as I'm here, the Weaver Family will never collapse."
"Thank you, Wilber."
Juliet Weaver nestled in Wilber Gilbert's arms, her eyes sparkling with a hint of cunning.
Luann Weaver, since you enjoy showing off so much, I'll grant your wish.
