Chapter 417 She Was Bleeding
Madeline got it right away. Juliet was clearly trying to mess things up between her and Wilber.
"Forget it, I should've known better than to let you handle Juliet," Wilber said, frowning as he helped Juliet back into her chair.
Madeline wanted to explain, but she knew Wilber wouldn't listen right now.
Wilber said, "I'll take Juliet back after we finish eating."
She just nodded, "Alright."
A servant rushed over to clean up the mess.
Wilber had barely started his breakfast when he got a call from work and had to leave in a hurry. Before heading out, he told Juliet, "Juliet, don't eat anything my mom gives you. Stay put, I'll be back in an hour or two."
"I know. Go ahead, work's more important," Juliet said with a sweet smile.
As the door closed and the car engine roared outside, Juliet's smile vanished, replaced by a look of disdain as she poked at the chicken soup in her bowl.
Madeline said, "If you don't like it, don't eat it."
"Exactly," Juliet said, putting down the spoon and wiping her mouth with a napkin. "No need to drink it and upset my stomach. What if it affects the baby?"
Madeline's voice grew stern. "If you don't want me to take care of you, just say so. No need to be so two-faced."
Juliet blinked innocently. "I'm not being two-faced. You just didn't get my preferences, that's all."
Madeline suddenly lost her appetite. She had tried to be nice to Juliet, even ready to treat her like a daughter. But Juliet's attitude was too much.
"Fine, I don't want to get involved in your drama. Wilber can take care of you. Finish eating and leave as soon as possible," Madeline said, basically kicking her out.
Juliet stood up gracefully, slightly bending at the waist, her hand on the table. "I need to pack my things. Mom, would you like to help me?"
Madeline sighed and followed her upstairs.
Juliet packed slowly, folding each piece of clothing carefully. What should've taken a few minutes dragged on forever. Finally, when she was done, Madeline grabbed the suitcase, ready to leave.
Juliet quickly blocked her path. "Let me carry it. It's heavy."
Madeline shook her head, "You're pregnant, it's not safe. Don't push yourself."
"Then wait a moment, I need to use the restroom."
Madeline nodded. "Okay, hurry up. Wilber should be back soon."
Juliet's lips curled into a sly smile. She didn't take long in the restroom and soon came out.
The two walked towards the staircase, one behind the other.
Madeline was lugging the heavy suitcase behind Juliet. Just as she was about to call for a servant to help, she heard Wilber's voice from outside. "Juliet, I'm back. Are you ready?"
Juliet glanced at Madeline and suddenly slipped. She lost her balance and tumbled down the stairs, rolling over and over until her head hit a pillar with a thud.
It really hurt. Juliet had planned to fake a fall, but when it actually happened, she couldn't control herself. Luckily for her, Wilber had just walked in and saw the whole thing.
He stared in shock, his voice sharp. "Juliet!"
Madeline stood at the top of the stairs, completely stunned and unable to react.
"Wilber, it hurts," Juliet said, her face pale. Her waist and stomach had taken several hits, scraping against the steps. Luckily, she had already lost the baby; otherwise, this fall could have been fatal.
"Blood, you're bleeding!" Wilber saw the blood spreading on her pants, and his panic intensified.
The pre-prepared blood bag had burst, creating the dramatic effect Juliet wanted.
Wilber's hands shook with fear as he tried to lift Juliet. Whether due to panic or something else, he failed several times. Finally, a servant helped.
"Wilber." Madeline finally snapped out of it. As Wilber carried Juliet out, she put down the suitcase and hurried down the stairs. But he never looked back.
On the way to the hospital, Wilber kept taking deep breaths. He had never prayed so hard, hoping his child was still alive.
"Faster, faster!" Wilber frantically increased the car's speed, his eyes wide with desperation.
Juliet, clutching her stomach and groaning, couldn't help but glance at him. She felt a sense of unease. This version of Wilber seemed a bit terrifying.
Outside the emergency room, Wilber paced back and forth anxiously. Madeline and Micah had also arrived.
"Juliet should be fine." Madeline, seeing Wilber so anxious that he was scratching his hands until they bled, couldn't help but offer comfort.
Unexpectedly, Wilber suddenly looked up, filled with hatred. "Why did you push Juliet? Even if you hate her and disapprove of us being together, why would you harm our child? That was your grandchild!"
Micah frowned, immediately stepping in front of Madeline, his eyes cold. "Wilber, what kind of attitude is this? Your mother would never do such a thing. There must be some misunderstanding!"
"Are you saying Juliet falling from the second floor is a misunderstanding?" Wilber's teeth gnashed, his mental state deteriorating rapidly. If Juliet really lost this child, he would never have his own child in this lifetime.
Madeline quickly spoke up, "Wilber, I admit, I do prefer Luann and think Juliet is not a decent girl. After all, Julietwas a mistress. But now that you're married and have a child, as elders, we wouldn't try to break you up. How could I do something so outrageous? I really didn't push Juliet; she fell on her own."
