Chapter 155 Rescue
At this moment, a nearby driver noticed the imminent danger and honked in alarm. However, due to the suddenness and the speed of Joshua’s car, it was impossible for Luann to dodge or for anyone to help her.
Luann remained oblivious to the imminent danger. She only realized that something was amiss when she saw tMyron’s eyes widened in fear and his cigarette fell from between his lips before he sprinted toward her.
The murderous growl of the car approaching from behind Luann grew louder.
Luann’s hair fluttered in the air as she called out, “Myron!”
She saw that unprecedented panic on the face of the man who was usually indifferent and immovable as a mountain when faced with all kinds of situations. She also caught a fleeting glimpse of her reflection in his eyes as he lunged toward her.
In the next second, the cacophonous sounds of screeching brakes and something being hit rang in the air.
Luann was nestled in the safety of Myron’s arms, and her face was pressed against his chest. She heard the sound of heavy breathing as he said tenderly and reassuringly from above her, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here…”
Something warm trickled down at this moment, and Luann began to struggle in Myron’s arms as the potent smell of blood assaulted her senses.
"It's okay. I'm fine, I’m fine," Myron insisted as blood continued to stream down his face from the gash on his head.
Myron’s gaze was incomparably cold as he looked up at the car that had pulled to a stop just three feet away from them. His piercing gaze landed on Joshua, who sat shell-shocked in the car.
Joshua’s heart pounded his chest as a sense of chilly dread quickly spread through his body when he met Myron’s icy gaze. A suffocating pressure descended on him, causing him to subconsciously clutch at his chest.
At this moment, Luann finally looked up at Myron, whose face was stained with fresh blood. Pain exploded in her heart in just an instant. It was as though there was a vice-like grip on her heart. She followed the direction of his gaze and soon saw Joshua. With this, she immediately pieced the situation together.
‘That jerk actually wanted to kill me?’
Luann extricated herself from Myron’s arms and marched toward Joshua. She yanked the car door open punched Joshua’s face angrily. She was not particularly strong, but it was enough to give Joshua a taste of pain.
Luann continued to punch Joshua. This was the first time she had lost her composure like this. His expression twisted in pain with every blow that landed. However, she was not satisfied. She turned around and grabbed a rock from the roadside and threw it at him.
The brick grazed his face, slicing his face bloody.
Luann growled and said in a hoarse voice, “Joshua, even if you’re a sore loser, you should at least retain some humanity!”
At this moment, Luaan was like a tiny cat, baring her fangs and brandishing her claws to protect her man.
Joshua continued to sit in the car, stunned and speechless.
Luann briefly assessed the situation before deciding the best course of action was to get Myron to the hospital.
"Get in the car."
After getting into the car, Luann handed Myron a handkerchief so he could staunch his bleeding. Her expression and gaze revealed her anger that had yet to subside.
"He braked at the last second."
Luann hummed in response, indicating that she understood. After all, at such a close range, if Joshua did not brake, she and Myron would not have stood a chance.
"We have to go to the hospital."
Myron said softly, "Let’s deal with this at home. It’s not a serious injury."
Luann did not respond and quietly drove home.
…
As soon as they arrived, Luann kicked off her shoes and rushed to the living room to look for something.
Myron sighed and brought a pair of house slippers over before he said gently, “Put these on. The floor is cold.”
Luann hummed in agreement before she led Myron upstairs. At the same time, she whispered worriedly, “Let’s deal with this in the bedroom. Otherwise, Grandma will definitely worry if she finds out about this."
"Alright."
In the sanctuary of their bedroom, Luann wet a towel with warm water before she began to gently wipe the blood off Myron’s face. Then, she carefully laid out an array of antiseptics.
"It seems like the wound is on your scalp."
Luann parted his hair gingerly, searching for the wound. She found it quickly. It seemed like he was cut by the pebbles. The gash was neither big nor small; it was about two to three centimeters in length.
Earlier, after protecting her in his arms to soften the impact, he had skidded half a meter. It was likely that he had sustained the injury at that time.
"It’s going to sting when I disinfect it," Luann said as she lowered her arm until it was level with his lips.
Myron raised an eyebrow and asked in confusion, “What are you doing?”
"If it hurts too much, you can bite down on my arm,” Luann said seriously.
Myron chuckled softly. "That won't be necessary."
However, Luann persisted. Her arm was poised in front of him. Her scent permeated his nose; unable to resist, he leaned over and kissed her arm tenderly.
Luann shivered slightly, and she blushed. Although she was slightly annoyed, she bit her tongue, considering his recent heroic efforts.
Luann pretended to be calm as she picked up the soaked cotton swab with a pair of tweezers and began to disinfect the wound.
Throughout the procedure, Myron did not make a sound at all. It was as though this was just a trivial injury.
However, Luann noticed the beads of sweat forming on his forehead. She knew that he was silent not because he did not feel pain and that he wanted to spare her the worry.
Her heart tightened as she asked, “Did you injure your arms as well?”
It was summer now. This meant that they were dressed in light clothing. It also meant that they had less protection. Thanks to Myron’s protection, Luann escaped practically unscathed. When she thought about this, she felt a tangled mess of emotions.
"Myron Curtis, even if you wanted to save me, how could you risk your life like that?"
Myron looked into her eyes which were filled with guilt. He raised his hand and gingerly stroked her head as he said, “If Joshua did not hit the brakes, both of us might not have survived. At that time, I didn’t think; I just acted."
At that time, there was no time to calculate if he could get to her in time, let alone wonder if either one of them could survive. As soon as he saw the danger hurtling toward Luann, his body leaped into action before his brain had even given the command.
“Thank you,” Luann whispered, barely breaking the silence.
Then, she sighed softly before she continued to tend to his wound and cleaned the blood off with a towel.
‘Huh?’
Luann’s hand suddenly froze in mid-air. Her eyes which were fixed on the scar on Myron’s face darkened.
‘Is it just my imagination, or does the scar look… a little different today?’
She looked at the area near his ears, feeling like something was amiss. However, before she could take a closer look, Myron suddenly stood up.
“I’m going to take a shower. You should get changed,” Myron said before he made his way to the bathroom.
After he closed the door behind him, he raised his hand and touched the area near his ear. The edge of the scar felt as though it was slightly lifted.
