Chapter 196 Homecoming
Luann rose silently and left. It wasn't until she had disappeared that the head of the family leisurely made his way inside the cabin. As he passed Benjamin, his steps faltered briefly. "You tipped off Luann, didn’t you?"
Adolph had a tough life over the years..." Holly murmured, watching him apply ointment to his face.
"The head of the household was kind to him."
Benjamin winced in pain, his mouth still bleeding. He rinsed his mouth.
"Yeah, the head of the household found Adolph under a highway overpass. It was winter, and he was barely holding on when he brought him home."
Holly nodded silently, opting not to continue the conversation.
Adolph remained unconscious.
Luann had stayed by his side for two days, but after fielding a relentless barrage of calls from Vito Curtis and the elderly Mrs. Fulton, she had no choice but to head back home.
"Don't worry, Luann, we've got things covered here."
Luann cautioned, "Whatever happens, let me know immediately."
"Will do."
Luann and Holly took a private jet back that same night. As they flew, Holly took Luann's icy hand in hers.
"Luann, what do you plan to do about the Curtises?"
Luann was quiet for a moment before saying, "I don't know."
Holly was taken aback.
"You don't know? Luann..."
Why was she hesitating?
"You haven't fallen for Myron, have you?"
A trace of sorrow flowed into Luann's clear eyes. She looked at Holly bitterly and softly said, "If Myron finds out I married him to uncover the secrets of the Curtis family, what will he do?"
"He'd be heartbroken," Holly bit her lip. "I think he's quite fond of you. It would devastate him to be betrayed by someone he likes."P
"I just want to be sure of one thing," Luann suddenly sounded firm. "Whether that scar on his face is real."
"What are you planning to do? I've already arranged for the doctor to be on standby. Just say the word, and they'll be here," said Holly.
Luann shook her head. "There’s no need for that.”
After the plane landed, Luann and Holly went their separate ways. She returned home and collapsed on her bed, utterly exhausted, but sleep eluded her.
She heard footsteps.
"You’re back." Myron's deep voice echoed from behind.
Luann rolled over to face him, nodding slightly, "Yeah, I'm back."
Myron approached her and gently stroked her hair. He didn’t press her about why she had suddenly stood him up that day.
Luann clutched at his wrist. "I’m sorry, that day, I-"
Myron's interruption cut off her words.
"I’m glad you’re back."
He thought she might have stayed for that guy.
"Myron."
He didn’t seem to want to hear her ramble, nor did he want to dwell on the events of that day.
"I'm going to take a shower. You should get some sleep."
Luann was speechless.
What was going on with Myron?
Quietly, she pulled out her phone and messaged Eddy.
‘Did anything happen in the past couple of days?’
Eddy replied instantly: ‘Woah, you're alive?’
Myron: ‘??’
Eddy: ‘Nothing much, just that someone couldn’t eat or sleep properly for a few nights.’
Myron: ‘What do you mean?’
Eddy: ‘Huh? You're the one involved, and you're asking me?’
Myron: ‘What happened?’
Eddy: ‘Someone prepared a proposal, but one of the main characters didn’t show up. You wouldn’t believe it, but I found him the next day. He sat there all night, frozen stiff.’
Luann's mind buzzed; it took her a moment to understand.
‘If you don’t believe it, you should go check out the place.’
So, Myron had wanted to take her to dinner that day, and John had oddly insisted she dress up. Was it all for a proposal?
Myron said he didn't give you the perfect wedding. He felt he had failed as a husband.
Luann stared at Eddy’s texts, unable to process them.
When Myron finished showering and left the bathroom, she guiltily shoved her phone under the pillow.
