Chapter 413 I Will Marry No One but You
At 8 PM, the security guard stood at the hospital reception, nervously scanning the area. Finally, he spotted someone, his eyes lighting up as he hurried over to greet them.
A white knit sweater and black pants highlighted her tall, slender frame. Luann strolled in, her hair casually draped over her shoulders, looking effortlessly smooth.
"Ms. Weaver, you're finally here!" The security guard had been shocked to discover that the patient in that room was Luann's father. "He promised he'd be back before 8, but he still hasn't returned. I'm sorry, Ms. Weaver, I shouldn't have let him go out alone."
Luann asked calmly, "Did he ask you for anything when he left?"
"He asked for ten dollars."
Luann thought for a moment and replied, "As long as he got the money, it's fine." He must have found who he was looking for by now.
"Ms. Weaver, shouldn't we try to contact him again?"
"No need." After giving her instructions, Luann turned and left the hospital. But behind her car, she noticed a familiar vehicle parked.
Luann paused for a moment but still walked over. Williams opened the car door.
Luann got in. "Williams, do you enjoy following me this much?"
Williams fiddled with the ring on his pinky, his expression a bit grim. He didn't answer her question but instead asked, "Since your revenge is almost complete, isn't it time to go back?"
Four years ago, Luann had insisted on leaving the Miller family and coming to Upper West Side to find evidence, hoping to bring the wrongdoers to justice. But the case had been cold for years, and finding clues from back then was nearly impossible. So, Luann had stayed for a long time. "I've already made a home here."
Williams' gaze turned sharp. "Are you planning to cut ties with the Miller family completely?"
Luann's voice was soft. "I never thought of it that way, but you keep pushing me."
Williams' eyes widened, his tone surprisingly soft. "Luann, does my affection for you really cause you so much pain and discomfort? After all these years together, do you feel nothing for me? When you left so decisively and said those cruel words, did you not feel any guilt?"
Luann looked at him indifferently. Williams longed to see reliance and a smile in her eyes. However, she would no longer give him that. Instead, that annoying guy Adolph still got to enjoy such treatment.
Luann said, "We do have feelings for each other, but it's not love; it's familial affection. Williams, I've always seen you as a brother. I rejected you clearly back then because I didn't want our relationship to become strained and tried to put an end to your thoughts, that's all."
As Luann grew older, she was no longer the naive child she once was. She began to experience the stirrings of young love and developed strange feelings for the opposite sex she encountered. She understood that these feelings were called affection.
But soon, Luann noticed that Williams was being overly nice to her. The way he looked at her was completely different from how Adolph did. There was a hidden affection and possessiveness in his eyes.
Luann started feeling uneasy and began to distance herself from Williams. She stopped acting like she did when she was younger, no more occasional kisses or letting him hold her. She gradually realized that it was wise to maintain a respectful distance between men and women.
So, after she turned twelve, she made an effort to keep things sibling-like with both Adolph and Williams. But Williams didn't seem to like this. "I really regret it, regret saying a lot of things I shouldn't have that night."
After realizing Luann's clear rejection, Williams got really down. He, who never touched alcohol, actually went to a bar and got drunk. When he came back and saw Luann, he hugged her and spilled his heart out, "Luann, I never saw you as a sister. When Dad first brought you home, I thought it was nice to have a girl in the family. But soon I realized I was watching your every move. I wanted to be by your side, watch you grow up, see you in a wedding dress, have our children, and be with you until we grow old and die. You might think my thoughts are absurd, but I really like you. I want to marry you. When you grow up, will you marry me?"
Adolph told Williams all of this the next day after he sobered up. Williams was surprised but then thought Luann was only twelve; she wouldn't understand. Maybe she'd forget in a few days.
However, those words stuck with Luann, and she never dared to ask him for help or anything again.
Luann said, "Maybe it's because we grew up together and spent so much time together that you feel this way. Williams, you should consider other girls. They're all very nice too!"
Williams stared at her intently. His tone was firm, with a strong sense of obsession. He had a stance of never letting go. "Luann, I only want you. In this lifetime, I will marry no one but you."
Just as Luann was about to speak, the car door clicked open. A large, slender hand grabbed her shoulder and pulled her out, into an embrace.
Above her head, Myron's icy voice came, "We're all adults now, let's stop with the childish talk."
Williams let out a cold laugh and met Myron's fierce gaze. "Want to fight? Whoever wins gets to have Luann. How about it?"
Myron said coldly, "Not interested."
"Are you scared?" Williams raised an eyebrow, almost provocatively.
"To treat the woman you love as a trophy to trade with others," Myron's tone was sinister, "it seems your feelings for Luann aren't that deep after all."
"If I could compete fairly, I wouldn't choose this way," Williams said and looked at the displeased Luann, "I don't mind giving you more time to be together. Luann, in four months, it's the Miller Group's centennial anniversary, and Dad's birthday is around that time too. You will come back eventually, won't you?"
Luann didn't say anything.
