Chapter 435 Stop Faking It
The sky was sprinkled with stars, and the autumn breeze was blowing. The streets were already empty, with just a few stragglers left. The only sound was the faint clink of a ceramic spoon against a mug.
Light footsteps echoed from the staircase, and a smiling waiter approached Luann, gently reminding her, "Ms. Weaver, we close in half an hour."
Luann paused and smiled. "Okay, thanks."
Half an hour was all she needed.
Outside, the screech of sudden brakes cut through the air. Wilber was clearly in a rush, judging by the way he parked. He jumped out of the car and immediately spotted Luann sitting by the window.
The warm light fell on her, but to Wilber, it brought no comfort. He stormed in, eyes slightly red with anger. He stopped abruptly beside Luann, slamming his hand on the table with a loud bang. The table shook, and some coffee spilled from the cup.
Wilber's voice was filled with rage. "Luann, you just can't stand to see me doing well, can you? I've already hit rock bottom, and you still want to ruin my life?"
His eyes were wide, teeth bared, and his hair almost standing on end with anger. Spittle flew from his furious roars.
"You can't stand me and Juliet, so you go to my mom and stir up trouble between us? Luann, you're something else. I really don't know what kind of tricks you used to make my mom trust you so much. She believes everything you say. And you even said that Juliet had a miscarriage long ago, that's bullshit. I saw it with my own eyes the day she fell down the stairs." Wilber pointed fiercely at his own eyes, as if he wanted to gouge them out and replay the scene for Luann.
"Oh, I get it." He took a sharp breath, a twisted and maniacal smile forming on his lips. Tilting his head, he looked like a mad clown. "You must have teamed up with my mom to go against us, right? She has always disliked Juliet, so you took this opportunity to kill my child, didn't you?"
Facing Wilber's ranting, Luann lowered her eyes, her expression indifferent.
Wilber said, "Luann, say something."
Luann looked up, her clear and bright eyes reflecting Wilber's disheveled appearance. She spoke slowly and clearly, "So in your eyes, Juliet's words are more credible? You know better than I do what kind of person Gerald is. You also know whether she could do such a thing."
Wilber laughed loudly. "Are you questioning my judgment? Luann, I'm not stupid. I have seen it."
Luann said calmly, "What you see is only what Juliet wants you to see."
"Don't give me that crap." Wilber waved his hand. "I came here today to tell you that I'm living very well with Juliet now! And please, don't disturb my life anymore. Seeing you makes me sick."
He thought if Luann hadn't just stood by and let him and Grace do what they did, he wouldn't be in this mess, even giving Juliet thirty percent of the shares for nothing. There was no turning back now.
"And you think your life's great, even with her cheating on you?" Luann sneered.
Wilber's face twisted. "What kind of crap is this? Still trying to stir the pot? Can't get through to my mom, so you start spouting nonsense?"
Luann shook her head slightly, thinking Wilber was as dumb as they come.
"Juliet won't cheat on me. If I hear this nonsense again, I'll deal with you." He turned to leave.
Luann watched him go, then pulled a piece of paper from her bag and placed it on the table. "I have Juliet's abortion record right here."
Wilber stopped in his tracks, spun around, and snatched it up. The paper was torn and taped back together.
He couldn't make sense of the medical jargon, but he understood the abortion diagnosis and the signature at the bottom. The date was around the time of the international fashion week.
His mind buzzed, but he wasn't ready to believe it just yet. "Luann, you're something else. Your skills are getting better, even faking something like this?"
Luann pointed out, "There's Juliet's signature at the bottom."
"Isn't a signature easy to fake? With a bit of effort, you can imitate handwriting, right? Or trace it," Wilber shot back, but his fingers were trembling. "Don't think I'll believe you just because you show me this! There's not a word of truth from your mouth," he spat venomously.
Luann propped her chin with her hand and laughed. "You two really are a perfect match."
Wilber's expression shifted. "What do you mean?"
Luann slowly tidied her hair, seeing right through Wilber's twisted thoughts. "The fact that Grace ruined you, you didn't tell Juliet, did you? Otherwise, she wouldn't have married you."
Wilber's face went pale. "How do you know? Gerald told you? No, she doesn't know about me and Grace. Luann, how do you know?"
Luann smiled lightly and didn't answer. "I've always wondered, Juliet is now in the entertainment industry, meeting people more powerful than you, but why did she still choose you?"
Luann stroked her chin, seriously pondering. If Juliet were a devoted and affectionate person, it wouldn't be surprising. But Luann knew long ago that during college, Juliet used to juggle multiple relationships, always having another one ready when one fell apart.
Now, at a critical time for her career, she chose to marry Wilber, even at the cost of breaching her contract with Dawn Talent Agency. Clearly, something was fishy.
