Chapter 446 Comfort from Fans
Luann's life didn't really change after Mike died. She still went to work like always, just talked a bit less.
Joshua sat nearby, watching her, too nervous to start a conversation. The vibe at the office was kinda weird.
"Luann, I..." After a lot of pushing from the other employees, Joshua finally got the guts to stand up and try to break the ice. But just as he started, Luann's phone rang. It was Diana.
"Hey, Mom." Luann signaled Joshua to wait, picked up the phone, and walked over to the window, looking down at the busy streets below.
Diana was quiet for a moment, then said, "Do you have time? I need to talk to you."
"Now?" Luann glanced at the clock; it was only 3 PM, still a few hours before the end of the workday.
"Yes."
"Alright, I'll come over." Luann agreed.
Diana paused and added, "Have Joshua drive you over."
"Huh?" Luann was confused. "Do you need to see him too?"
"No."
After hanging up, Luann was still puzzled but didn't plan to bother Joshua.
But Diana still texted Joshua: [Drive Luann over. Mike just passed away recently, and her emotions might be unstable. I don't trust her driving alone.]
Joshua rushed over with a grin. "Where are you headed? I'll drive you. Free chauffeur, why not?"
Luann looked at the stack of files on his desk and raised an eyebrow. "Won't you have to work late tonight then?"
"Overtime's my jam." Joshua grabbed his car keys and headed out. "Let's go."
Just outside the office, they saw two rows of people standing neatly. Joshua mumbled, "Is there an event or something?" As soon as he said that, the crowd swarmed over.
Joshua was about to pull Luann to run when he noticed these people seemed organized, always keeping about 10 feet away, not crowding them too much.
"Luann!"
"Finally, we see you!"
"Luann, I came from abroad!"
"I'm from the next city over!"
They handed over gifts, like cute plush toys, envelopes, and flowers.
Luann was a bit stunned. She saw a familiar face. "Big John?"
Big John, the guy who live-streamed Luann's street racing back then, walked over, stammering, "Luann, a lot of fans contacted me these past few days, saying they wanted to see you, so I brought them. They even made a sign for you!"
Luann looked where Big John pointed and saw fans in the back holding a shiny sign that read: [Luann, we will always be with you!]
Luann's eyes filled with tears instantly, and the fans started to panic.
"Luann, don't cry."
"Yeah, if you cry, we'll feel bad for coming."
"Luann, if you cry, I'll start crying too."
Luann smiled through her tears, her eyes shining brighter. "I'm just really touched by all of you."
The fans let out a collective sigh of relief. They had been planning this surprise meet-up since yesterday morning in Luann's fan group.
[I feel so bad for Luann. I really want to see her and give her a hug.]
[Admit it, you just want to get close to Luann.]
[How could you think that?]
[I want to see her too. Luann isn't in the entertainment industry, so we rarely get to see her.]
[Can we organize something? Luann must be really sad right now. We can't do much, but seeing her might help.]
[Yeah, even if I stand in the back, I just want to know how Luann is doing.]
[Hey, why don't we ask Big John to organize it? His last live stream was great, and he knows Luann.]
[Yeah!]
[Big John, we need you!]
Big John quickly read through the chat and thought it was a great idea.
Big John: [Sure, I'll post an address. Let's gather and discuss. Those nearby come, those far away don't since it's too much trouble. Keep the number around a hundred, or it will be hard to manage and might bother Luann.]
[I'm in! I'm on Upper West Side!]
[Count me in! I've been her fan since she played the piano!]
So, by 5 PM, under Big John's coordination, a group gathered. After confirming the number and plan, they made the sign overnight. Everyone brought small gifts, planning to surprise Luann.
By 1 PM today, they had gathered downstairs at the company. They thought they would have to wait until Luann got off work, but luck was on their side.
"Luann, this is a little something from me."
"And from me."
"Me too."
A line formed as fans handed Luann their gifts. But soon, she couldn't hold them all.
Joshua chimed in, "Should I bring the car around to put these in?"
Luann nodded, "Okay." The back seat quickly filled with their heartfelt gifts.
Luann smiled happily. "Hey, can I have that sign too?"
Hearing Luann ask, everyone was overjoyed and nodded eagerly. After all, they had worked all night to make it, and seeing Luann like it made everyone very happy.
"Of course." Seeing Luann in a good mood, the worried fans felt relieved. They didn't want to take up too much of her time.
Just then, Joshua spoke up, "Luann, let's go. It's getting late."
