Chapter 10 The Leg Injury Seems Fishy
Everly looked up, totally floored.
"Malcolm, what's up?"
"Let her stay and keep treating me. You guys don't need to stress about it."
Alyssa got all worked up too, "Malcolm, she's trying to hurt you. How can we not care?"
"She's my wife, she won't hurt me." Malcolm's eyes flickered with a dark, cold light.
Everly glanced at Malcolm, feeling a chill from the murderous vibe in his eyes. She shivered, suddenly tongue-tied. Even though Malcolm was paralyzed, he was still as intimidating as ever.
Reese smirked a bit, looking at Malcolm on the bed. He actually stood up for her; maybe he wasn't as scary as he seemed.
Aiden respected Malcolm's call, but Malcolm's leg was a big deal.
He hesitated and asked, "Malcolm, are you sure she's not out to get you?"
"She won't harm me, Grandpa."
Aiden couldn't push it further, "Alright, if you say so, we'll keep her around for now."
Alyssa stomped her foot in frustration, "Grandpa..."
"Malcolm's made his decision. Plus, if we call the cops without proof, what happens to the Flynn family's reputation?"
The media would have a field day, saying the Flynn family just got a new bride and already hit up the police station. We'd be a laughingstock.
As long as Reese didn't actually hurt Malcolm, everything else was small potatoes and didn't need to be blown up.
Everly tugged at Alyssa and shook her head slightly, signaling her to drop it. If they ticked off Grandpa, he'd side with Reese even more, making things tougher for them.
Alyssa, though pissed, had to back down.
When Vincent Flynn gets back, they'll deal with this damn Reese then!
Aiden spoke again, "You all head out. Reese, you too."
"Okay."
Alyssa and Everly grudgingly left the room. They thought they had a shot at kicking Reese out, but Malcolm had to go and defend her.
Everly was fuming. She'd been all set to spill her feelings to Malcolm. If he was on board, they could tell Grandpa, and he'd probably give the green light right away.
But unexpectedly, the Brooks family had to send Reese today and mess everything up. Everly clenched her teeth and fists in frustration.
After everyone cleared out, Reese turned to Malcolm on the bed. "I'll step out for a bit and come back later. You stay put." She got ready to follow Aiden.
Malcolm gave a bitter smile, "Not like I can move anyway."
Reese thought he looked uncomfortable. Remembering how he backed her up, she tried to comfort him.
"Um... I'll do my best to fix you up."
Malcolm saw the sympathy in her eyes and couldn't help but smirk. He was just sighing, did Reese really pity him that much?
As the door closed, Malcolm's eyes grew more thoughtful. Her calmness earlier was almost too much, definitely not your average country girl. Could she really have some serious medical skills?
Reese followed Aiden into the study. Aiden pointed to a chair in front of him.
"Take a seat."
Reese, focused on treating Malcolm, didn't want to waste time and preferred getting straight to the point.
"No need, Grandpa. Just say what you need to say."
Aiden appreciated the directness and got right to it.
"Can you really cure Malcolm?"
"I can't promise it'll be quick, but I'll give it my all. Malcolm's leg is kinda weird," Reese raised an eyebrow.
Aiden frowned, "What do you mean?"
"For a while now, someone's been giving him some kind of drug. I'm still figuring out what it is, but I can tell you, if he keeps taking it, he's gonna end up needing an amputation."
"What!" Aiden's face darkened, shock written all over it.
