Chapter 529 Private Jet
Reese looked serious, making Louis nervous too. She told him, "Check Calvin's location."
"Got it, Reese."
Louis fired up the computer, his fingers flying over the keyboard. Reese had always been cautious about Calvin's safety, so she had a tracker put in his molar. If he got into trouble and couldn't use his phone, she could still track him.
Louis admired Reese's thoroughness.
Soon, Louis found Calvin's location. "Weird, why's he out in the sticks? What did you send him to do, Reese?"
Reese couldn't hide it anymore. "I sent Calvin to investigate my grandmother's death. He found some clues. The guy who went to jail wasn't the real culprit; he was a scapegoat. The real murderer is still out there. Someone deposits money into the scapegoat's family's account every month."
"That's really suspicious. Why would someone do that?"
Anyone would find it odd.
Reese pulled out her phone. "I'm calling Calvin. If he doesn't answer, I'm going there myself."
Louis quickly said, "Reese, I'll go with you."
"Who will stay and guard the home if you come with me?" Reese asked.
Louis hesitated. "I know, but I'll be worried if I don't go."
With Calvin missing, if something happened to Reese too, they'd be in trouble.
"Don't worry, I've been through worse," Reese assured.
Ryan chimed in, "Louis, go with Reese. I'll stay and guard the home. Nothing will go wrong."
Louis clapped his hands. "Good idea."
"No, you need to keep an eye on Nolan. Malcolm's been looking into Everhart's sister. If we find her, it could be our breakthrough. Nolan's organization is a big threat. They've done a lot of bad things." Reese stood firm.
Louis frowned but had to follow orders. "Alright, I get it. But Mr. Flynn won't be happy. He won't agree to you going alone."
Malcolm treated Reese like a treasure, always protecting her. No way he'd let her take such a risk.
"I'll explain it to him," Reese said. She couldn't let Calvin be in danger because of her.
Calling Calvin again got no response. Reese made up her mind. "Louis, book me a flight ASAP."
"Yes." Louis turned to leave.
"Wait, never mind. Get the private jet to the nearest airport. I need to go now," Reese instructed, worried about Calvin.
She wasn't too concerned about herself but didn't want to put others at risk.
Louis nodded. "I'll do it right away."
Ryan teased, "Reese, who needs plane tickets when you can just hop on your private jet, right?"
Reese replied, "I saw my husband had a private jet and thought it was convenient. So, I got one for us. It cost a lot."
She still felt a bit pained thinking about it.
In hindsight, she should've borrowed Malcolm's jet. But sometimes it wasn't convenient, so she got her own.
"Self-reliance is key. Relying on others often leads to disappointment." This was her belief.
Ryan gave Reese a thumbs-up. "That's our Reese."
After Reese left, Ryan patted Louis on the shoulder. "Hurry up and follow her."
Louis was confused. "What do you mean?"
"You can't let Reese go alone. If Calvin's in trouble and she's alone, what will she do?"
Louis looked helpless. "It's not that I don't want to go. She won't let me. What can I do?"
"Follow her secretly," Ryan said, exasperated. How could Louis not think of that?
Louis nodded. "Fine, I'll follow her. Reese won't kick me off the palne mid-air, right?"
Ryan patted his back. "Hurry up then."
"Okay, I'm off." Louis quickly left.
Reese had just arrived at the airport and called Sofia on the way.
Sofia had no idea Reese was going on a trip and kept apologizing. "I'm sorry, Reese. Have you been waiting long? I'm about to head out now."
"I should be the one apologizing. Something came up, and I have to go on a trip. We can't meet for lunch today," Reese said politely. She was the one canceling, and Sofia had something important to discuss.
Sofia's smile faded. "Reese, you mean you can't meet me for lunch today?"
"Yes, I'm about to board the plane. Something urgent came up," Reese replied.
Sofia felt like she was on an emotional roller coaster. She had been thinking about how to ask Reese for information, and now Reese's sudden departure caught her off guard. How would she explain this to Nolan?
Nolan was eager to know Everhart's whereabouts. If Sofia told him Reese was out of town, would he react harshly and take it out on her grandmother? He seemed devoid of compassion, and Sofia wasn't sure.
With Reese's sudden departure, Sofia wondered if Reese was avoiding her or if there was a genuine urgency.
"Alright, we'll meet another time then." Sofia hung up.
Reese put away her phone and boarded the plane. As soon as she got on, she felt something behind her. Turning around, she saw Louis.
Louis hadn't expected to be discovered so quickly and gave Reese an awkward smile. "Reese."
Seeing his sheepish look, Reese knew he had followed her. She frowned and spoke sternly, "Didn't I tell you not to come?"
"Reese, can we talk on the plane? Besides, I'm not following you; I'm just here to check out the private jet. I heard it's luxurious, and I wanted to experience it."
Before Reese could respond, Louis had already gone inside.
By the time Reese wanted to call him back, it was too late. He had already sat down, looking very pleased.
"Wow, this private jet is actually different from other planes. I must take this opportunity to enjoy it," Louis said.
Reese knew Louis wasn't here to enjoy the jet; he wanted to accompany her, worried she and Calvin might encounter danger.
Since he was already here, she had no choice. Having someone to look out for her was actually a good thing.
She boarded the plane and headed straight to where Calvin was located.
Louis asked, "Reese, did you have an appointment today?"
"Yes, a friend wanted to discuss something with me, but I had to cancel."
It wasn't just any friend; it was Sofia. Reese was grateful to Sofia, who had been her ally during college. Louis knew most of Reese's friends but felt the need to remind her. "Reese, even if it's an old friend, we gotta be careful. People can be unpredictable, and things are different now. We need to watch out for people with hidden agendas."
Reese glanced sideways, her clear eyes flashing with complexity. "You sound just like Malcolm."
Malcolm and Reese had their doubts about Sofia, but Reese trusted her friend's character. Still, she remained cautious, knowing what to disclose and what to withhold.
Louis smiled wryly. "It's because we don't know your friend well, so we're worried there might be issues."
Given Reese's many identities, if someone approached her with a hidden agenda, it could be harmful. They didn't want that to happen.
Reese took Louis's words to heart and became even more cautious. "Got it. I'll dig deeper into it."
"Reese, now that you're on the plane, how do you plan to explain this to Mr. Flynn? If he finds out you went so far, he's definitely going to ask. Even if you don't tell him, he'll find out," Louis remarked, confused.
