Chapter 363 Confrontation
"This is going to be quiet from now on," Malcolm said and handed the phone back to Reese, who fell into contemplation.
Seeing her silence, Malcolm leaned over, his voice low with a hint of teasing.
Malcolm teased, "What, you can't bear to part with it?"
Reese glanced at him lightly, "I hope Everhart disappears from my sight."
How could Reese possibly have any other thoughts about him?
Malcolm put his arm around Reese's waist, effortlessly lifting her onto his lap.
Malcolm urged, "So, tell me, what are you thinking?"
Reese didn't resist, she enjoyed being by Malcolm's side, especially liking the scent coming from him, always feeling comforted by it.
She took his hand, absentmindedly playing with his palm.
Reese revealed, "I'm just thinking, how did Everhart find out?"
This was something Reese hadn't figured out before, and it was Malcolm who told her. Where did Everhart find out from? This was a crucial matter.
Because whoever knows this, might know other things as well, which could bring risks to Malcolm later on, causing trouble.
She continued, "What worries me more now is if we don't investigate thoroughly, if one day this person exposes your identity, letting everyone know that the President of the Flynn Group has ties to an underground organization, just imagine, by that time, the Flynn Group will become a target."
Now she understood why Giedon always kept Malcolm's identity hidden. Giedon was also worried that if something happened to Malcolm because of this, it wouldn't benefit him at all.
Seeing Reese looking worried, Malcolm felt even more relieved. He gently patted Reese's head with his warm palm, a smile playing on his lips.
He said, "I really do take care of you."
Now Reese knew she was worried about him. Well, a good student can be taught, it seems he can put in more effort.
Reese, seeing him acting nonchalantly, patted his hand.
She replied, "At least as the President of the Flynn Group, can't you be serious?"
This demeanor, why did it vaguely resemble Calvin's, perhaps this was how Malcolm looked when he let loose.
Malcolm's eyes and corners of his mouth carried a hint of a smile, quite different from his usual cold and serious self. At this moment, Malcolm seemed to have a touch of liveliness.
Malcolm held Reese tightly, not wanting to let go as if she were a treasure.
Malcolm said, "In front of you, I don't need to pretend."
Although Reese didn't show it on her face, she was already delighted by Malcolm's words.
Malcolm didn't inquire about Reese's past with Everhart, as he had already found out, there was no need to reopen her wounds.
Both of them tacitly avoided the topic.
Reese still gave Malcolm a wake-up call.
Reese insisted, "What Everhart said, you should take it seriously. Have someone investigate, so as not to cause a big mess later on."
Their identities were sensitive now, and they couldn't afford to be exposed easily.
Malcolm agreed, "All right, I'll have Justin look into it later."
Reese grabbed his arm, and said, "Wait, I think if you let Justin investigate, he probably won't find anything. This matter can't be investigated through normal channels, you know what I mean."
In their organization, anyone with a slightly higher rank would have their own connections. To investigate things that couldn't be spoken of, they couldn't rely on conventional means.
Malcolm knew Reese was looking out for him, and this matter couldn't be taken lightly.
He replied, "I understand."
That night, while Reese was asleep, Malcolm entered the study. He didn't want Reese to get involved in this matter.
Her own affairs were already causing her a lot of stress, and he couldn't let his issues drag her down.
Justin pushed open the door to the study and locked it behind him.
Approaching with a serious expression, he said, "Mr. Flynn."
Malcolm lowered his gaze, skillfully flipping the shiny silver button on his shirt cuff with his fingers, casually glancing at Justin.
Malcolm asked, "Did you find out?"
Justin replied, "I did. Everhart has close ties with a key figure in our Harmony Alliance. It was only after paying a hefty sum this time that Everhart learned about your identity from this person."
Justin added, "Also, I heard that this person is preparing to defect to Nolan's side soon, which could have a significant impact on Harmony Alliance."
Being a key figure, he would surely take many secrets with him.
Malcolm could probably guess who this person was, a gloomy air covering his handsome features.
Malcom instructed, "Tell Giedon about this, let him handle it himself."
He did have to manage Harmony Alliance affairs, but he wouldn't personally get involved. He didn't want his hands stained with blood, but Giedon was adept at handling such matters.
Back in the day, Giedon was even more terrifying than he is now, having lost count of how many lives he had taken.
With Malcolm's restraint in recent years, Giedon had toned down, but if someone insisted on courting trouble, there was nothing they could do.
Just the thought of Giedon made Justin shudder, his methods were enough to make one tremble.
Justin commented, "But if Giedon handles it, this person probably won't even have a chance to live, and might not even have a complete corpse left."
Malcolm replied, "You just need to remind him not to forget our agreement. If he causes any casualties this time, Harmony Alliance will have to deal with it themselves in the future. Don't come to me for any incidents."
Justin nodded, "I understand."
Malcolm added, "Also, now that Everhart knows my identity, we can't let him live."
Justin smirked, and said, "I think Mr. Flynn, you're not just concerned about Everhart harassing Reese, are you jealous? They used to have a relationship, what if old feelings resurface..."
Before Justin could finish his sentence, Malcolm's cold gaze swept over.
Malcolm scoffed, "Are you implying that I'm inferior to Everhart? Do you think any normal woman would choose Everhart over me?"
This wasn't really self-love on Malcolm's part. Even before he married Reese, there were plenty of women who cared for him every day, regardless of their motives.
Even now, being married, many women still eagerly sought his attention.
But Malcolm wasn't interested in any of them, no matter how they compared, Reese was always the best.
The key was the innate understanding between him and Reese, a level that couldn't be reached with anyone else.
Justin nodded vigorously, "Yes, Mr. Flynn, you make a lot of sense. Even if I were a woman, I wouldn't choose Everhart."
Malcolm scolded, "Stop wasting time here, go and get things done quickly, make sure to handle it properly, and don't stir up any big waves."
Justin replied, "I understand."
The next day, when Reese woke up, Malcolm was right beside her. She glanced at the sunlight outside and suddenly felt that the days were not so bad.
Being able to wake up and see the person she loved, she no longer lived in a state of anxiety and uncertainty.
Now, as long as she saw Malcolm, no matter how chaotic her heart was, she could calm down.
As Malcolm, asleep, seemed to sense someone watching him, he slowly opened his eyes, meeting hers, the atmosphere inexplicably tense.
