Chapter 575 Taking Risks
Sebastian spotted a factory building up ahead. He didn't expect to see one out here. If someone wanted to hide, this would be the perfect spot.
He suddenly stopped, and one of his teammates asked, "Sebastian, why'd you stop again?"
Sebastian explained, "We've been hunting for a factory to stash some stuff, but we wanted somewhere more off the grid. Look, isn't this place perfect?"
The team halted, too. This area was already a maze, and they'd been running around in circles. If they kept going, they might never find their way out.
The teammate asked, "Alright, you check out the factory, and then we bounce. I'm getting dizzy running around here. Who picked this place anyway?"
Everyone glanced at Sebastian. "Who else but Mr. Hawthorne. He came up with such a genius idea, dragging us out here for a run. Now we're stuck in this godforsaken place. Do you think it's easy to get out of here? We might not even find our way back."
Sebastian knew this place was a nightmare, which was why Nolan might be hiding here.
But he couldn't explain that to his teammates.
He quickly tried to calm them down, "My bad. Once we get out, dinner's on me."
At the mention of food, they stopped griping. "Alright, we'll do as you say. But you better treat us to a good meal when we get back."
Sebastian said generously, "Sure thing. You pick the place, and it's on me."
Everyone in his team echoed jauntily, "Deal."
Sebastian scoped out the place and reported to Reese. There was no signal here, so he had to use the tracker Calvin had installed in his molar to get his location.
Reese quickly responded and urgently said to Calvin, "Calvin, Sebastian's got news. Follow up on it."
"Got it, Reese." Calvin checked Sebastian's location and locked it in. "Reese, there's a factory over there, but it's been abandoned for ages. It's not uninhabitable, though. Nolan might really be inside. Should I send someone over now?"
Reese replied, "Hold up. If we rush in and no one's there, we might tip them off. The key is we don't even know if Nolan is there."
The worst part was the enemy's in the shadows while they were out in the open.
Calvin asked in concern, "Reese, your dumb brother isn't gonna walk in there, is he?"
Reese frowned. He couldn't be that stupid, right?
Sebastian and his team had already pushed open the factory door. Sebastian cautious fumbled forward, and his teammates, clueless about the situation, imitated his moves.
One of his teammate teased, "Sebastian, you're just looking for a factory. What are you so scared of? There's no cannibals inside."
Sebastian shushed, "Shh, Keep it down."
The teammate responded, "Keep it down? Do we really need to be quiet? Yeah, what's there to be afraid of? Didn't you say your family just wanted a place to store things? This place is perfect."
Sebastian frowned and scanned the area nervously. "Y'all better be careful. This place is like a maze. If someone’s really in here..."
But the others just shrugged.
The teammate asked"Who'd be in this deserted dump? Besides, there's nothing here. Even if someone was, what could they do?"
Sebastian stepped inside and realized the place was way deeper than it looked from the outside. He noticed footprints on the ground.
He had tricked these guys into coming here; he couldn't let them get hurt.
Sebastian turned to his teammates, "You guys head out first. I'll check things out alone."
They were already fed up with this place. If it weren't for Sebastian, they would've bailed long ago.
Now that he told them to leave, they were more than happy to oblige. "Alright, we're outta here. If anything happens, give us a shout."
"Got it." Sebastian nodded and sent another signal to Reese. His gut told him someone had been here.
This place was so hidden that no one would come here without a specific reason.
As Sebastian kept walking, he stumbled upon a dark tunnel. He didn't expect to find such a hidden passage.
He bravely walked in, but the tunnel seemed endless. He kept going, cold sweat forming on his forehead.
He was scared. What if he couldn't get out?
Just as he was about to turn back, someone suddenly grabbed him from behind and a pungent smell filled his nose.
His eyes widened in alarm.
He didn't have time to struggle before everything went black and he passed out.
Reese received no more signals from Sebastian.
Calvin found it odd, "Reese, Sebastian's signal is fading. I can barely track him."
Reese trusted the tracker, which had a signal-boosting feature. If it suddenly stopped working, something was definitely wrong with Sebastian.
Thinking of the hot head Sebastian, she had a sense of foreboding. This fool wouldn't have gone in alone, would he?
Reese couldn't risk Sebastian's life and decisively told Calvin, "Send people over now."
"On it." Calvin quickly gathered his team and rushed over with Reese, but the factory was empty. The place was so vast it felt creepy.
Calvin looked around, "Why's there no one here?"
Reese was sure, "Sebastian must still be inside. His car's still out front. I saw a bunch of tire tracks when we got here. He must've sent his guys away."
He was probably trying to keep them safe if there was danger inside, but also didn't want to alert anyone if there wasn't.
This idiot, hadn't she told him not to take risks?
Reese's sharp eyes quickly spotted another path ahead.
