Chapter 398 Who Says I am Going to Run
Reese shrugged and sneered. "Everly, are you delusional?"
Reese is not short on money, or anything. She had no need to set such an enormous trap for the Flynn Family.
Moreover, why would help she someone who abandoned her since childhood? That's just stupid.
Everly hadn't expected such a strong reaction from Reese, especially her sharp retort just now, which almost scared the soul out of her. She knew Reese had a powerful aura, but when those piercing eyes glanced at her, Everly felt her heart skip a beat.
Reese's aura was truly unmatched.
Malcolm realized that Everly's words had deeply wounded Reese. Reese already harbored hostility towards the Hawthorne family, and Everly's words were like twisting a knife into her heart.
Malcolm's voice turned cold as he rebuked, "Everly Flynn, this is none of your business. Keep quiet."
Everly hung her head low, deciding to keep her mouth shut. She knew Reese's temper; if she truly angered Reese, things could escalate quickly. Reese was fearless and wouldn't hesitate to take action.
Aiden also understood that Everly's words had been too severe. He couldn't blame her further.
As long as it benefited the Flynn family, Aiden wouldn't intervene.
"Alright, since the project has been submitted, there's nothing more to say. Let the servants reheat the food for you both. Eat and then take some rest," Aiden said calmly.
Malcolm nodded. "Yes, Grandfather."
Seeing this, Everly knew her plan had failed. She coldly snorted, and went upstairs.
Continuing like this won't do, especially considering how long they've been married. If they end up having a child one day, Everly will have no chance at all.
Despite Aiden's current disapproval of Reese, if Reese were to get pregnant, his attitude would definitely do a complete 180.
Everly needs to figure something out. Why hasn't there been any movement from Shirley?
With that in mind, Everly made a phone call.
"Hello, Sister Everly."
"Shirley Sawyer, are you living the high life lately? Have you forgotten what you're supposed to do?"
It had been a long time, and there had been no movement from her side. Reese was still living the good life.
"No, Sister Everly, how could I forget? It's just that Natalie has been busy with her family these days. It should be happening very soon."
Everly's patience was running thin.
"You'd better give me some good news." she demanded.
"Yes, just two more days. The time is coming soon. Reese won't be smug for long." came Shirley's reply.
"I'm warning you all, she knows martial arts. You'd better gather more people. money is no object, what matters is teaching her a lesson."
"Understood."
Hanging up the phone, Everly clenched her phone tightly. Soon enough, Reese would be kicked out of the Flynn family.
After finishing her meal, Reese spent the afternoon organizing some documents at home. In the evening, Sophia called Reese.
Reese, it seems like there's a contract left on your desk. Could you pick it up for me?
Reese frowned, "Do you need it urgently?"
"Yes, very urgently. We need it first thing tomorrow morning."
"Alright, just send me your address, and I'll come over to get it."
"Thank you so much, Reese."
Ending the call, Reese pondered the situation. Something didn't seem right; Sophia rarely bothered her at this hour.
Plus, there shouldn't be any contracts on her desk. Company contracts wouldn't end up there. Obviously, Sophia must be in some sort of trouble.
Reese's immediate suspicion fell on Clara; that woman wouldn't just let things go.
Reese didn't intend to tell Malcolm, fearing he'd worry. She planned to leave quietly, but Malcolm caught her before she could slip away.
"It's so already late, honey. Where are you going?"
Reese hesitated for a moment before replying, "Sophia needs me for something. I'll be back soon."
"Why don't you get Alyssa to accompany you? It's late."
Although Malcolm knew of Reese's self-defense skills, he still felt concerned about her going out so late.
Reese declined, saying, "No need, I'll be fine on my own."
Malcolm didn't think much of it. After all, Reese going out shouldn't be a big deal, especially considering her skills; there were few who could pose a challenge to her.
However, Malcolm still advised her, "Come back early."
"Okay, I got it." Reese put on her shoes and headed out.
As Reese drove to the location Sophia had sent, she noticed the deserted surroundings. Glancing around at the desolate area, illuminated only by a dim street lamp overhead, she couldn't help but feel it was an ideal spot for an abduction.
Yet, Reese remained calm and composed, showing no signs of fear despite the eerie atmosphere.
Just as she was about to call Sophia, Reese felt a cold, sharp object pressing against her waist.
"Don't move," a voice commanded.
Reese chuckled coldly, "I won't move. Do you really think you can harm me?"
Her audacity was astounding, especially considering the knife pressing against her. Yet, the assailant seemed unfazed, dismissing her words as mere bravado.
After all, she was just a woman; what harm could she do?
Sophia, now being led out by the captor, saw Reese and panicked.
"Reese Brooks, you need to go! They're bad people! Quickly, call the police!"
The man behind Reese, sporting a cap, sneered, "Is this woman out of her mind? Since she's already here, do you really think she can escape?"
Sophia was terrified, her face drained of color as she found herself inexplicably bound. She hesitated to call Reese, but the menacing captors left her no choice. Fearful of provoking them, Sophia complied, though she had no intention of making the call.
To not get Reese into harm's way, she had feigned urgency about a contract on Reese's desk, knowing regular employees like her would never handle such documents.
Sophia believed Reese, being clever, would understand and seek help or alert the authorities. Yet, Reese's solo arrival left her bewildered; she was walking straight into a trap
It's over for both of them now.
Reese remained composed, her demeanor unwavering, but her gaze ice-cold.
She cut straight to the chase, asking, "What do you want?"
The man in the cap smirked arrogantly, "Don't worry, lady. We're just looking to have some fun. Cooperate, and we'll take some photos for souvenirs before we leave. But if you resist, don't blame us for getting rough. And don't even think about fighting back; we know you're skilled, but you're outnumbered today. There's no escaping us."
Reese's disdainful laughter filled the air, her gaze piercing, treating them like insignificant pests.
"Who said I'm going to run?"
