Chapter 348 Don't Get Too Deep
Vincent never shied away from this. "Isn't it normal for people to have ambitions? Besides, I don't think I'm any less capable than Malcolm, and I don't understand why Mr. Flynn Sr. is so biased."
From childhood to adulthood, no matter how hard he tried in front of Mr. Flynn Sr., no matter how progressive he was, all Mr. Flynn Sr. saw was Malcolm. Even if Vincent won, Mr. Flynn Sr. would only find various excuses for Malcolm's failure.
Mr. Flynn Sr.'s actions, his favoritism towards Malcolm, all made Vincent feel that his efforts were in vain.
Reese suddenly laughed, a sound that was clear and pleasant yet held a hint of mockery if one listened closely enough.
Vincent frowned. "What are you laughing at?"
Reese stood up, leaned against the balcony, took a look at the lush greenery outside, and then turned around.
"I always thought you were smart, especially after spending so much time with the Flynn family. You should have a clear view of things. But now, it seems that you are indeed blinded by self-interest and desires."
Vincent was puzzled. "What do you mean by that?"
Reese glanced at her nails casually.
"Since you were honest with me just now, I'll be honest with you. Mr. Flynn Sr. knows every move you make and what intentions you have towards the Flynn family. Malcolm doesn't have as many thoughts as you do. His only goal is to make the Flynn family better. Even if you prevent him from becoming the CEO of the Flynn Group, Malcolm could start his own company."
Reese then remained silent, leaving it up to Vincent to grasp the underlying meaning.
Some things didn't necessarily need to be said out loud; a little reflection and the truth would become clear.
Vincent couldn't understand before, but now he did. "Are you saying that I have ill intentions?"
Reese snapped her fingers. "Looks like you're not that foolish."
Vincent, however, remained unimpressed. "Mr. Flynn Sr. may think I have ill intentions, but how can he be sure that Malcolm's thoughts are pure?"
'Nowadays, who doesn't have desires? Who doesn't have flaws? Who can guarantee they're always calm and collected?' he thought.
"Your issues are different," said Reese.
Their goals were different.
In Vincent's view, Reese's words were just a defense of Malcolm. After all, Malcolm was her husband.
"What's different? It's just that, even if we are in a hostile relationship, Malcolm and you are of one mind. If you were my wife, could you still say such things?"
Reese smiled helplessly. "I've said what I needed to say. Whether you believe it is up to you. Think carefully and focus more on improving yourself. You won't be any worse than Malcolm."
With that, Reese opened the door, giving Vincent one last warning as she left.
"You better avoid any dealings with the organization. It's a swamp. Once you're in, climbing out won't be easy."
After she left, Vincent stood in place, unable to come to his senses for a long time. For a moment, he couldn't discern the intentions behind Reese's words.
After Malcolm left, Reese, upon learning about Aiden, quickly left as well.
Aiden was a time bomb, and if not handled, it would also affect Malcolm.
She called Louis and arranged to meet at the coffee shop entrance. Louis got in the car.
"Miss Brooks, it's late. What can I do for you?"
"Harmony Alliance has a person named Aiden. Find a way to meet him."
Upon hearing this name, Louis was puzzled.
"But what does Aiden have to do with us? Isn't he from Harmony Alliance?"
"I took over Malcolm's project this time. Harmony Alliance will definitely cause trouble for him. We are both helpless. How could we not know the organization's methods?"
Reese felt helpless about this matter. Until now, the people from the organization still wouldn't let her go.
It was the first time Louis had seen Reese go through so much trouble for a man. It seemed she was genuinely cared, but there were some things he had to remind her about.
"Miss Brooks, I know Malcolm may treat you well, but if he is truly from Harmony Alliance, he will always pose a threat to us. You can never be too sure about people's intentions these days. I fear that one day he might harm you for his own benefit."
After all, Louis didn't know Malcolm well.
Reese knew Louis was looking out for her. "Don't worry. Do you really think I'm that naive?"
Reese had been betrayed before. She wouldn't give her heart away completely as she did before, but as long as Malcolm was sincere to her, she wouldn't resort to any tricks.
"That's good. Miss Brooks, what do you want to ask Aiden?"
"See if he has any information that hasn't been revealed yet."
Reese felt that Aiden might be able to help them.
Louis had been with Reese for a long time, so when she said this, he immediately understood.
"Miss Brooks, do you want to use Aiden to get some information and see if there's a chance to bring down Nolan?"
Reese met Louis's gaze, and they shared a knowing smile, a silent understanding built over years of collaboration.
"It's true that we've known each other for so long. Now, I'm not trying to get away from Nolan unscathed. The only way for me to safely come out is to bring Nolan and his organization to ruin."
Upon hearing this, Louis didn't feel happy for Reese; instead, he wore a troubled expression, filled with worry.
There were some things he felt he had to say, even if it might dampen the mood.
"Miss Brooks, Nolan has been controlling this organization for decades. Considering the efforts of Nolan and the previous generations, his foundation is incredibly solid. It's not something a few of us can shake."
Someone as smart and courageous as Reese hadn't even thought of a way to leave the organization, let alone shake its foundation. These were things they wouldn't dare to consider.
"I know the pros and cons better than you do. But if I don't act, I might not be able to escape in the future. But if I do, at least there's a glimmer of hope, right? We can't just wait to die."
The weight of the organization burdened her for too many years. She had to find a way to discard this burden to have a chance at a better life.
Louis pondered over this, realizing there was logic in her words despite the high risks. If they succeeded, the outcome would be favorable.
After some thought, Louis agreed, "Alright, since you've made up your mind, I won't say anything more. I'll follow your lead."
Reese was relieved. She reached out and held Louis's hand, sincerity evident in her eyes.
"Louis, thank you for all you've done for me over the years."
"Miss Brooks, what are you saying? Without you, I wouldn't have had anywhere to stay all these years. You've given us hope for life and the future."
To him and the others like Calvin, Reese was their savior, shaping them into who they were today.
Glancing at the time, Reese said, "Let's start now. But Aiden can't remain in Harmony Alliance. Make sure to record the conversation, but remember to make my voice unrecognizable. After it's done, have someone anonymously deliver it to Malcolm."
