Chapter 357 The Story Behind

Pride filled Malcolm's eyes. "I knew you were smart."
Reese then remembered why, for a period of time, Harmony Alliance seemed transparent, not taking on any new business, slowly distancing itself from the dark side, although this period was not long before it started again.
But that time was much better than now.
It turned out that all of this was thanks to Malcolm.
"And now, will you continue staying in Harmony Alliance?" Reese didn't want Malcolm to have too much involvement with the organization, as staying in such an environment for a long time could affect her.
She felt constrained by Nolan, but Malcolm had a better chance to break free, at least Gideon was his uncle.
At the thought of Harmony Alliance, Malcolm only felt a headache. He rubbed his brow, feeling weary.
"Mr. Flynn Sr. has given up on him, but I can't. After all, he is my uncle, my family."
He feared that if he completely detached himself from Harmony Alliance, no one would restrain Gideon anymore, and he would go back to his old ways. At least with Malcolm inside, Gideon would show some restraint, fearing the power of the Flynn Group.
Although one was dark and one was light, seemingly without much common ground, if Malcolm leveraged his connections, Harmony Alliance might not benefit as they might expect.
Reese could understand Malcolm's feelings. It was hard to easily let go of one's family, but it was better than her situation. Her dearest grandmother had passed away, her mother was long gone, and now even her only father wasn't her biological one.
Where her biological father was, she still didn't know.
Thinking of this, she couldn't help but feel lonely.
Malcolm had said all he needed to say. Reese's recent doubts were also resolved.
"That project, you deliberately gave it to me, right? You knew I would use it to negotiate with Gideon, and it went smoothly. Your involvement must have played a part."
She always believed that Malcolm wouldn't allow Gideon to harm her in any way.
Reese, Kay, and Louis were almost scared to death, fearing that it was hell inside and they wouldn't be able to get out once they entered.
Malcolm took a sip of coffee, a charming smile on his face.
"I've told you my secrets. Now it's your turn. Your secrets should be more than mine."
Reese raised an eyebrow, her eyes clear.
"You must already know everything about me. You've likely done your research. The last time Everhart was here, he didn't discuss anything trivial with you. He must have told you about my deal with Nolan."
Malcolm admitted frankly, "Yes, but Everhart is not a good person. It's right for you to keep your distance from him."
Upon hearing this, Reese seemed to realize something.
Her expression darkened, and a murderous intent surged in her eyes.
"You've investigated my dealings with Everhart?"
"I have. I know everything about your past."
Malcolm didn't want to hide anything from her. He hoped that Reese could ease her mind and let go of the past pain, and if she couldn't, he would be there to support her.
Reese remained silent, a mix of emotions swirling inside her. These things were like wounds to her, things she never wanted to examine because she feared she wouldn't be able to accept them. For so many years, every day she struggled to forget how the people she trusted the most abandoned, betrayed, and used her.
All the initial goodness was just part of a long-planned conspiracy.
Reese buried her face in her knees, and for the first time, Malcolm saw her so helpless and filled with negative emotions. Usually, Reese always appeared invulnerable.
But the only good thing was that she was now willing to show her true emotions in front of him. However, he couldn't bear to see Reese so hurt.
He got up, walked to her side, and embraced her slender body, his warm palm gently stroking her back, his voice unusually gentle and patient.
"Alright, dear, let's not dwell on those things. Let's not always look back. We have many days ahead of us, and with me by your side, you'll never be alone again. No matter what happens, I've got your back."
Because of Malcolm's words, Reese's negative emotions seemed to find some solace, at least better than before.
She lifted her head, her eyes filled with helplessness, and it pierced Malcolm's heart.
Seeing Reese like this, his heart almost broke. The usually strong and composed Reese showed her true self, and he felt at a loss.
Apart from comforting her, taking care of her, and ensuring her happiness in the future, Malcolm couldn't think of anything else he could do.
"Don't be sad, or I won't be able to concentrate on work today."
Upon hearing his voice, which seemed more distressed than her own, Reese couldn't help but laugh.
"Malcolm, you're a CEO after all. Can't we be serious? Stop teasing me."
Seeing her mood lighten slightly, Malcolm knew it was only on the surface. The scars etched in her heart couldn't heal so quickly; they were just temporarily hidden.
He wouldn't force Reese to reveal all her secrets at once; her emotions couldn't handle it.
"Alright, go back to your work. I'll have Justin bring you the coffee later. If anyone dares say a word, I'll take care of them."
He could always find a reason to praise Reese for her hard work. No matter what she did, she did it seriously. He had observed before that even the simplest tasks or organizing data, she could do it diligently, albeit a bit too quickly.
After all, Reese's capabilities were evident.
Reese got up, making sure to finish the remaining coffee.
The taste was indeed good.
"Okay, have it your way," she said.
Heading to the door, Reese seemed to remember something to tell Malcolm.
"You handle the situation with Aiden. I'm not exactly clear on how much he knows about Harmony Alliance, or how many secrets he might have sold to Nolan."
"I got it. I'll let Gideon deal with Aiden's matter."
Malcolm had already informed Gideon about this, but he hadn't told Reese.
Upon hearing this, Reese felt relieved and left the room.
Back at her desk, Sophia curiously approached. "Reese, Reese, what did Mr. Flynn want from you?"
"Nothing much. Mr. Flynn asked me to taste the newly purchased coffee and help select it for future guest receptions."
Reese fibbed smoothly.
Sophia innocently believed Reese's words but still found it a bit strange. "But why did Malcolm ask only you to taste the coffee?"
