Chapter 425 Enjoying Benefits While Harming Others
Everly didn't shy away at all and admitted it openly.
"Isn't it true? Reese wants to harm the Flynn family. It's one thing if she wants to go against the Hawthorne family on her own, but now she's dragging Malcolm into it. If the Hawthorne family decides to pursue this, even if we can handle it, I don't think it's necessary. In business, it's better to have more friends than enemies. For so many years, the Hawthorne family and our Flynn family have stayed out of each other's way. Now, just for a trivial woman, the two families are about to clash."
Just thinking about it made Everly want to slap Reese hard and kick her out of the Flynn family, so she'd never have the chance to harm Malcolm again.
If it weren't for Reese, she and Malcolm might have been together by now.
Vincent said, "That's why you need to find someone who can control her."
Everly sneered and said, "Are you joking? Who can control that girl? Tell me."
No one could control her, right?
Vincent didn't think so. "Don't think about who can control her. Think about who dislikes her the most, who hates her so much they want her gone?"
Everly immediately caught on. "The Hawthorne family!"
"Think about it. If the Hawthorne family finds out that Reese is trying to steal a project from them without their knowledge, do you think they will let it slide?"
Vincent knew that once he said this, Everly would act immediately. As long as the Hawthorne family started arguing with Reese and Malcolm, he could take advantage of the situation. By the time Malcolm realized what was happening, it would be too late.
At that point, even Grandpa wouldn't be able to do anything about it.
The Flynn family would eventually fall into his hands, and he would be the only heir.
Everly didn't consider Vincent's motives. She was entirely focused on how to get Reese out of the Flynn family.
Her biggest worry was that the longer they spent together, the harder it would be for Malcolm to let go of Reese. If they accidentally had a child, she couldn't stay with Malcolm for the rest of her life.
No one knew that Everly often saw them being intimate in corners. The sight was like a thorn in her heart, making it hard to breathe. Sometimes, she even had the urge to pull Reese away from Malcolm.
But rationally she couldn't do that. She had no status or justification to do so in front of Malcolm; she couldn't use love as an excuse.
If everything could be judged unilaterally, that would be great.
Everly thought it over and felt that this plan might work.
"But what if Malcolm finds out?"
She still cared about her image in front of him and didn't want him to choose someone else even if Reese left.
Vincent sneered and said, "So what if he finds out? If you don't do it, Reese and his feelings will only deepen. Grandpa's attitude towards Reese isn't as bad as it used to be. What if she gets pregnant one day? What will you do then?"
His words made Everly anxious, and she had to make up her mind.
"Alright, I'll do as you say."
"Okay, let's go eat."
Vincent was confident that Everly would agree. When people were caught up in emotions, they were confused and irrational, making them easy to manipulate.
She would have to be the bad guy.
As soon as Everly walked out of Vincent's room, she ran into Reese and Malcolm coming out. They looked at each other, each probing the other.
Vincent spoke first, "Reese, Everly isn't feeling well. I have some things to handle. Could you take a look at her?"
Everly snorted and was ungrateful. "I don't need her help. Who knows if she'll try to harm me."
Reese was never one to tolerate grievances, especially after hearing Everly's words. She retorted without hesitation. "If I wanted to harm you, you wouldn't be standing here."
Reese wasn't being arrogant; she indeed had the capability. If she wanted Everly dead, she could make it happen quietly and without a trace.
Seeing the sharp look in Reese's eyes made Everly uneasy. Reese's gaze sometimes felt like it was staring into an abyss, wrapping her in invisible fear. Even though she wanted to retort, she couldn't find the words.
The atmosphere suddenly became tense, and Vincent broke the awkwardness.
"Let's go eat. Grandpa is about to lose his temper, saying you two never eat at the table and don't act like a family."
Reese and Malcolm went downstairs, and Aiden's face almost froze. When he saw them, he scolded, "Do we need to assign someone to fetch you two in the future?"
Malcolm explained, "Grandpa, we've been busy with company matters these days. I couldn't handle it alone, so I asked Reese to help."
Hearing this, Aiden gave Reese a disdainful look.
"What can she do, help you with spreadsheets?"
Aiden still didn't know how capable Reese was and thought she was just an ordinary employee at the Flynn Group.
"Grandpa, Reese..."
"Let's eat. The food is getting cold."
Malcolm wanted to explain and even wanted to reveal her identity to Aiden so he wouldn't have such a low opinion of her. But Reese stopped him.
She wasn't a high-profile person and didn't care about the opinions of irrelevant people. Aiden's opinion of her hadn't changed overnight, and she didn't want to make things difficult for Malcolm.
They finished their meal in a not-so-harmonious atmosphere.
Everly finished eating and was about to leave when Aiden stopped her, seeing that it was late.
"Where are you going so late?"
"Meeting a friend. I'll be back soon."
As soon as she finished speaking, she was gone.
Aiden sighed and said, "She has been going out a lot lately. I wonder if she's seeing someone."
Malcolm had an idea.
"Grandpa, I think Everly is of age to get married. How about introducing her to someone? If they get along, they could get married next year."
As Aiden grew older, even though Everly was not biologically related to the Flynn family, she had been raised by them for so many years. Aiden treated her as if she were his own granddaughter.
