Chapter 517 Spar with You

How could Nolan miss Reese's point? She made it clear she wasn't letting him off the hook. "So, are you saying there's no chance for us to find some middle ground?" she asked.

"Pretty much. I went through a lot to find him, and he got my sister pregnant. I need to bring him back and set things straight." Nolan's tone turned icy. "So, according to you, there's no room for negotiation?"

Reese matched his assertiveness. "That's right, Everhart. I won't let him go easily."

"Then don't blame me. Guys, get Everhart in the car!" Nolan ordered, and his men moved toward Reese and her group.

Before they could get close, Malcolm stepped in, his gaze menacing and presence intimidating.

"Nolan, if you want to make a move, we'll oblige. But think about your past—can you handle the heat? The police have probably been watching you for a long time," Malcolm said firmly.

Malcolm's words made Nolan pause, his eyes challenging. "Mr. Flynn, are you trying to go against me? Just so you know, it's not that we can't win; it's just that we'd rather not. But think it through. Everhart answers to me. His future's in my hands, not yours."

Nolan declared his authority confidently. He wouldn't let Reese take Everhart, even if it meant dying. Everhart had dirt on him, and if it got out, the consequences would be dire.

Malcolm stood his ground, exuding dominance. His eyes were dark, his lips tight, and his sharpness was evident. Just meeting his gaze sent chills down one's spine.

"Nolan, Everhart ditched your crew ages ago. He never signed anyyhing with you, so how is he your man? If you insist on taking him today, I'll call the police. You might end up with a kidnapping charge. And if things get messy, Giedon will swoop in for the kill, and you could lose your position in this game," Malcolm said confidently.

"You... you dare threaten me!" Nolan's face twitched with anger, his expression darkening.

Malcolm bluntly informed Nolan, "My wife wants to keep him today, and no one will take him away!" His tone was non-negotiable.

Seeing the situation, Nolan realized taking Everhart wouldn't be easy. However, just because it wasn't happening here didn't mean it couldn't happen elsewhere. Contemplating his next move while absently toying with his ring, he gestured to his men, "Let's go back."

His men were shocked. "Nolan, you want us to go back? We worked so hard to find him..."

"Didn't you hear me?" Nolan suddenly roared.

"Yes, guys, let's go!" They quickly got into their cars.

Nolan, with a vicious look in his eyes, pointed at Everhart. "Don't think you can escape today. If I get my hands on you, I won't let you off easily."

Everhart raised an eyebrow. "That will have to wait until you can catch me, Nolan." The provocation was clear, his face full of arrogance.

After Nolan left, Malcolm said to Reese, "Honey, let's go."

Reese's expression remained tense, his brow furrowed deeply even after Nolan's departure. "I know Nolan too well. He won't give up easily, especially if Everhart is holding onto something crucial. Do you honestly believe he'll walk away just like that?"

While Reese contemplated the situation, Malcolm confidently declared, "No worries. I've got it covered. I've arranged for two identical cars to leave at the same time, leading them astray. By the time they figure it out, we'll be long gone."

Reese admired Malcolm's foresight, especially his knack for predicting outcomes. Her frosty demeanor softened, a smile playing at her lips. "Honey, you're amazing."

Malcolm returned her gaze with a knowing smile. "Oh, I excel not just in this, but in other areas as well, honey." Reese shot him a knowing glance. Malcolm's cheekiness seemed to be ramping up, almost as if he were being deliberately casual, maybe even putting on a show for Everhart. Only Malcolm truly knew what was unfolding beneath the surface.

Reese told Louis, "Do as he says. Get Everhart in the car and have someone watch him. Don't let him escape."

Everhart half-joked, "Don't worry, with you here, how could I bear to run?"

Reese gave Everhart a sidelong glance. "Stop being slick. No matter what you say this time, I won't believe you again."

She had trusted Everhart twice, and both times he let her down. Disappointment accumulated, and she wouldn't trust him again.

After getting in the car, they followed Malcolm's plan, splitting into two groups. At first, everything went smoothly. However, as they cruised down the highway, Malcolm's keen eyes caught a tailing vehicle in the rearview mirror. A crease formed on his brow. "Seems like Nolan's more cunning than we thought."

Reese also noticed the suspicious maneuver. The car had merged from another lane, meaning Nolan had anticipated their move and prepared in advance.

Louis saw the car behind them closing in, likely to force them to stop once off the highway.

"I'll drive," Reese said, ready to switch places with Louis.

"I'll do it," Malcolm said, already unbuckling his seatbelt. "It's easier for me to switch with Louis."

"But you might not be able to shake them off," Reese worried. Nolan was determined to take Everhart back, even using his most reckless men.

Malcolm looked at Reese, his eyes firm and confident. "Honey, you have to trust me."

He was adamant about not letting Reese shoulder the entire burden alone. His intention was clear—to support her, to share the load, and prevent her from being overwhelmed by the weight of these circumstances. Seeing his determination, Reese considered her own situation. "Alright, but be careful," she said with concern.

"Trusting me is the right choice."

Despite the tension escalating, Malcolm's poker face remained undisturbed by any hint of anxiety. Reese found herself in awe of his composed demeanor; this was the kind of man she desired. She despised men who panicked more than women in a crisis.

She gradually regained her confidence. It wasn't fear that gripped her, but a deep sense of responsibility for everyone's safety within the car.

Reese calmed down and took out her phone to call Sebastian. Louis noticed and asked, "Reese, why are you calling Sebastian now?"

"I heard Sebastian likes racing around here. Let's try our luck," replied Reese.

The point was, Nolan had more than one faction on their tail. Through the rearview mirror, another one of Nolan's cars came into view. Dividing their attention wasn't an option. They had to keep a close eye on Everhart while also evading Nolan's relentless pursuit. It was a demanding juggling act, to say the least.

Luckily, Sebastian answered, much to Reese's relief.

Sebastian was shocked to get a call from Reese. He said, "Reese, did you dial the wrong number?"

"No, I meant to call you. Where are you now?"

"I'm racing with some friends near Swiftway Express. Reese, gotta hear this—there's a badass here who wants to challenge you."
