Chapter 366 Heartache for the Wife

Malcolm observed Nolan's determined look and had to consider the consequences for Reese.

Malcolm said, "Nolan, you must have more requests after this one. This time it's about her grandmother's cause of death. What will you use next time to get Reese to help you?"

People are insatiable, especially given Reese's current value, no one would easily let go.

Nolan, acting unreasonably, replied, "Mr. Flynn, I can't agree with your words. Everything I say is known to Reese. Think about it, she's so clever, she wouldn't engage in a losing deal. If she finds my information worthless, she wouldn't agree to help me."

Reese didn't want to waste more words with Nolan.

She said, "I agree."

Nolan replied, "Good, in that case, come back in a couple of days. I need to organize some information these days. You know, we have a lot of people here, it's not easy to find you."

Reese's agreement was expected of him; he knew Grandma's importance to Reese.

Reese could marry Malcolm to investigate Grandma's cause of death.

There's nothing Reese wouldn't agree to. Even if Nolan were to propose an impossible task, she would agree without hesitation.

However, Nolan wasn't ready to go that far yet. He wouldn't reveal his trump card until the last moment.

After searching for a long time, Reese's heart gradually settled. Nolan had promised her, he couldn't escape now. He still needed her, and Reese wasn't worried he would back out.

Reese said, "All right, Nolan, find the information in a couple of days and give me a call."

He replied, "Okay, have a safe trip. I won't see you off." Nolan stopped at the entrance after seeing Reese and Malcolm off.

As Reese got into the car, her expression was heavy, lost in thought.

Malcolm instructed Justin, "Drive, let's head back."

Justin asked, "Aren't we going to the office? Don't we have a meeting?"

Malcolm said, "Postpone the meeting. I'll go to the office tomorrow."

Reese was the priority now.

Justin had no choice but to comply.

He replied, "Yes."

Reese turned to him, and said, "You don't have to worry about me. I need some time alone."
Her thoughts were chaotic, needing time to process everything. That's why she hadn't asked much about her grandmother's situation earlier.

Malcolm held Reese's hand, his warm touch comforting her.

He comforted her, "It's okay. If you're confused, I'll be here to help you think it through."

Reese looked at Malcolm, realizing she wasn't alone in her confusion.

Someone was there to support her.

Someone was giving her strength.

Reese's eyes glistened with tears, showing vulnerability in front of
Malcolm for the first time, is a sign of trust.

Malcolm gently wiped away her tears with a tissue.

Justin, driving ahead, felt a pang of jealousy.

What had he done wrong to deserve this treatment from fate?

Malcolm instructed Justin, "Investigate the Hawthorne family thoroughly, every detail about them and their members. Leave no stone unturned."

Justin asked, "When do you need it, Mr. Flynn?"

Malcolm's tone turned cold, retorting, "When do you think I need it?"

Head bowed, Justin replied, "I'll have it for you by tonight."

On the road, Reese watched the passing cars, feeling low. She suddenly spoke to Malcolm.

Reese remarked, "The Hawthorne family must see me as a burden. Otherwise, they wouldn't have ignored me for so many years. I used to blame my mother, thinking she abandoned me. Now I realize it wasn't her fault. It was the Hawthorne family, the man who treated her like a plaything, discarding her when he was done."

Over the years, Reese had misunderstood, not really blaming the wrong person. After all, Kenneth had also abandoned her mother for that woman.

Men were indeed not to be trusted.

Malcolm hoped God would treat his wife well, but there always seemed to be something to disrupt Reese's life.

Their life had finally stabilized, and Reese's mood had improved. Her trust in others had increased, but now everything seemed to be falling apart.

It wouldn't be easy for Malcolm to bring Reese back to how she used to be. He needed great patience now; otherwise, all their progress would be lost.

With patience, Malcolm explained to her, "Not all men are like that. Look at me."

Reese just smiled without saying a word.

Sensing the tension, Justin tried to lighten the mood with small talk.

Justin mentioned, "Mr. Flynn, are we planning an outdoor activity at the company soon? Maybe we could all relax together."

It was then that Malcolm remembered and asked Reese, "Honey, is there anywhere you'd like to go?"

"No," Reese didn't want to go anywhere now; she just wanted to resolve things first.

Malcolm and Justin exchanged a glance, both feeling helpless.

Back at the Flynn family residence, Reese went straight upstairs.

Malcolm watched her lonely figure, his face darkening. He told Justin, "Hurry and investigate thoroughly. Otherwise, this will keep haunting her."

Justin replied, "Right away. I've already had someone start the investigation."

After Malcolm's instructions, Justin immediately began looking into the Hawthorne family. Their information was relatively easy to find, given the family's previous notoriety.

Malcolm instructed, "Bring the information to the study."

Justin replied, "Yes."

Returning to the room, Malcolm saw Reese's troubled expression. The recent news had hurt her deeply.

Approaching her from behind, he wrapped his arms around her waist. Reese tensed for a moment but then relaxed, knowing it was Malcolm. It was a moment for just the two of them, a time when they could speak freely.

Malcom said, "Honey, let's not jump to conclusions. Let's investigate thoroughly before we decide, okay? No matter what the Hawthorne family thinks, you are my wife. You have your own family now, someone to care for you. You don't need them anymore."

Reese turned to lean on Malcolm's shoulder. It was rare for him to see her so dependent. He held her tighter, his warm hands soothing her back, full of patience.

He continued, "Our Honey has been through a lot. Let's focus on ourselves. If it weren't for your insistence, I would rather you never know these truths. It wouldn't be so painful."

Shaking her head, Reese clung to him like a kitten. Malcolm enjoyed it, but he didn't want Reese to rely on him in such circumstances.

Reese replied, "It's nothing. I would have found out sooner or later. I have to face it; I can't avoid it. I just can't understand how he could have treated my mother that way because of another woman, and that woman..."

She wanted to know what unfair treatment her mother had faced all those years ago.

Malcolm gently caressed her cheek, and said, "I've sent Justin to investigate. We shouldn't rush. Whatever happens, I'll be here to help you. Honey, take your time to adjust. You're not alone now; you have me."

Reese looked up, her usually calm face now showing fear.

She asked, "Will you leave me?"

Would Malcolm one day leave her like that man, like Kenneth left her mother?

Malcolm's gaze was firm, his tone resolute.

He answered, "I won't, never. If I leave you, I'll be the one in pain."
How could he leave such an exceptional wife? He cherished her deeply, especially after learning about Reese's background.
