Chapter 356 That New Blood Is You
Reese was not one to beat around the bush. She accepted things as they came, knowing that what she was responsible for would catch up with her sooner or later.
Sitting down, she picked up the coffee in front of her and took a sip. The rich aroma spread in her mouth, confirming that the coffee did indeed taste good.
Malcolm looked at her relaxed expression and raised an eyebrow, asking, "So, how is it? Do you like the coffee Justin recently bought? Does it taste good?"
"Yeah, it's pretty good. Better than instant coffee."
She wasn't particular about coffee, especially at work where she couldn't afford to buy expensive coffee. The group of women in the company often gossiped about coffee, but Reese wasn't bothered by such idle talk. She had been through a lot and was not one to be swayed by idle chatter; she simply didn't want to invite trouble.
Malcolm nodded thoughtfully. "Since it suits your taste, I'll get some more later."
"No need. I'm used to what I'm drinking now. You didn't call me here to discuss the quality of coffee, did you?"
Reese was always direct, especially when she could foresee what was about to happen; there was no need for delay.
She preferred being straightforward.
Malcolm lowered his head, a smile playing on his lips. "I particularly like your intelligence. Many times, we understand each other without a word, just by a glance."
Reese had visited Harmony Alliance and was quite tired, and the sofa in Malcolm's office made her want to lie down as soon as she sat on it.
At this moment, she leaned back on the sofa, imitating Malcolm's relaxed posture, feeling completely at ease.
"So, what do you want to ask?" she inquired.
Malcolm's eyes sparkled with interest as he appreciated Reese's honesty even more.
He leaned slightly towards Reese and said, "Honey, you intercepted my project, didn't you?"
"Yeah, you should have guessed that already."
When Vincent mentioned it that day, Reese had already suspected something. Vincent's implications were too obvious to miss, even for a fool, let alone for someone as smart as Malcolm.
However, at that time, she didn't bring it up directly because she wanted to finish her own tasks before discussing it with him.
It was just a project. If Malcolm wanted it, she could give it to him, but it might be different, although the profit wouldn't change.
Malcolm first wanted to clarify his position. "The reason I'm asking you today is that I wanted to wait for you to finish your tasks. I'm somewhat aware of your relationship with Nolan. You went to Harmony Alliance today and made a deal regarding this project with them, right?"
"Yes, I didn't intend to hide it from you. I know I can't hide it from you, given your close relationship with Harmony Alliance."
Reese's statement also served as a subtle probe of Malcolm's intentions. She wanted to see if Malcolm would open up to her. Of course, if he didn't want to, she wouldn't push him.
Now, both Reese and Malcolm were testing each other. Smart people were good at this; they knew how to play the game, neither willing to reveal their cards first, unsure if the other would be as honest.
Moreover, their hidden identities could lead to many complications if not handled carefully, not just for themselves but for others as well.
Malcolm's lips curved slightly, his handsome features showing no signs of evasion or surprise, instead exuding a sense of calm.
"When did you know that I was from Harmony Alliance?"
He never underestimated his clever wife's intelligence and emotional intelligence; she excelled in both.
Reese couldn't remember when exactly; perhaps it was a long time ago, but there were recent clues.
"Your tattoo is a mark unique to Harmony Alliance, and only the higher-ups have it. That means you have access to their core information."
This was why she was worried that Aiden might affect Malcolm. Although a small player had limited abilities, continuous involvement could eventually lead to trouble for Malcolm.
Malcolm wasn't surprised; he always believed that Reese was decisive and insightful, especially in analyzing things.
"In fact, I never thought I could hide it from you. I knew it was only a matter of time before you found out."
With Malcolm's openness, Reese's nervousness gradually eased. As long as he didn't deceive her, she could be honest with him.
But if it were someone else, she might not be able to do the same. If that person was Malcolm, Reese was willing to try.
"So, what is your relationship with Harmony Alliance?"
She was genuinely curious about Malcolm's identity because she couldn't understand why a leading figure of the business world would be involved with an underground organization.
That place was a quagmire, difficult for anyone to leave unscathed, let alone someone as capable as Malcolm. Harmony Alliance wouldn't let him go easily.
Now, Malcolm had no intention of hiding anything from Reese.
"You've probably met Gideon. Maybe you don't know, but Gideon is my uncle."
Reese furrowed her brows, her usually calm eyes now showing waves of shock.
She repeated in disbelief, "Uncle!"
Gideon turned out to be Malcolm's uncle!
In other words, Harmony Alliance could also be considered part of the Flynn family.
She didn't need to ask Malcolm; with this revelation, Gideon's name was definitely an alias. In that organization, who would be foolish enough to use their real name?
Seeing Reese's eyes widen, Malcolm couldn't help but smile. Rarely did he see such a strong reaction from her.
He chuckled softly, the laughter from his throat deep and pleasant.
"I really want to capture your expression just now with my phone and treasure it."
Reese remained serious. "You're in the mood to joke at a time like this?"
"It's not that. I can tell you about this slowly, but your expression right now is not something I get to see every day."
Since they already knew what was going to happen, why worry about it?
Malcolm was prepared, and since he had nothing else to do that day, he had plenty of time to answer her questions.
Reese got back to the point; her mind was a bit muddled at the moment.
"So, you know all of Harmony Alliance's actions, and you've been involved. Why did you choose to enter this circle when you could have avoided it?"
"My uncle is a bit stubborn. You should know that Harmony Alliance was even darker and more terrifying in the past than it is now."
Everything he did was on the edge of the law, but any sensible person would know that his luck wouldn't always hold.
Reese did remember something. "It seems that seven years ago, Harmony Alliance went through some turbulence. Before that, Harmony Alliance was the most ruthless in the industry, but after a certain incident, it was said that their leader was replaced, and Harmony Alliance underwent a major overhaul."
As she spoke, Reese seemed to have realized something, her eyes suddenly widening.
"So, the new leader of Harmony Alliance is you."
