Chapter 611 What to Do If You Lose

Reese was floored.

Hearing Reese's silence, Malcolm asked again, "Babe, what's up?"

Reese snapped back to reality. "Oh, nothing. If you wanna hit the stock market, go for it."

"You coming too? If you are, I'll swing by and pick you up. But heads up, Stephen and Kenneth might be there today," he said, worried she might get upset.

Reese wasn't one to shy away from stuff, so she quickly told Malcolm, "It's cool, do your thing. It doesn't bother me."

She wasn't the type to get all emotional either.

Malcolm felt a bit better hearing that. He didn't want her getting worked up over anything. "Babe, if something's bugging you, you gotta tell me. Don't bottle it up. If something happens, it'll break my heart."

Reese couldn't help but laugh at Malcolm's worried tone, "You don't need to baby me. I've been through a lot. I can handle this."

"But I don't want you to handle it alone. I wanna face everything with you. I want you to know you're not alone, that you've got me," Malcolm insisted.

Over time, he'd gotten a rough idea of Reese's past. Even though he hadn't dug up anything super useful, he always felt like there was more to her story.

But he never wanted to push her, afraid it would stress her out and make her feel bad.

As long as they were together, that was enough for him.

"Okay, I get it. You go do your thing. We'll meet at the stock market later," Reese replied.

Reese wasn't one to wear her heart on her sleeve. Even though Malcolm's words warmed her heart, she still managed to keep her cool.

Probably because of her time in the organization. They were trained not to show their true emotions, to better blend in during missions.

Over time, she got used to it and could hide her real feelings.

This also made her a bit anxious. Even when she was happy hanging out with friends, she always seemed cold and distant.

In the short term, people might get it, but over time, they'd think something was off with her.

While she was lost in thought, Jesse knocked on the door, snapping her back to reality.

"Come in," Reese said.

Jesse walked in. "Ms. Brooks, everything's ready. You can head down now. The stock market opens in twenty minutes. A new batch will rise, and the old ones will be out."

"The cycle of new and old is normal, especially in the stock market. You never know what'll happen tomorrow," she said, heading down with Calvin.

Even though Reese had lifted the entry restrictions, only a few people could still get in, so the hall wasn't too packed.

People were chatting while they waited.

"I heard that financial whiz who made a killing on that stock a few years ago is here today."

"Really? Where? I haven't seen them."

"Probably still in the office."

"It'd be awesome to meet them."

Some folks admired the genius from a few years ago, while others had nothing but criticism.

The person next to them sneered, "What's so great about that? Why don't you mention how this person monopolized the stock market and made money by buying stocks. What about us? We all lost money."

"Exactly, how many companies have gone under in the past few years because this person bought so many stocks."

"In this game, there can't be two equally strong players. You should all get that."

"True."

"You all praise this person to the skies, but you probably don't even know if they're a guy or a girl."

"Maybe they're a freak."

"Haha, maybe."

"You guys..." Calvin overheard and was about to argue, but Reese stopped him.

"Let them talk," Reese said.

Calvin was fuming. "But that's just too low. Calling you a freak? That's harsh."

If Reese hadn't stopped him, he would've gone over and given those guys a piece of his mind.

Reese glanced at them calmly and asked Calvin, "Don't you know what kind of person I am?"

She wasn't one to let any slander slide. She definitely wasn't a saint who'd just let things go.

Seeing the sharp glint in Reese's eyes, Calvin finally smiled, "You really know how to keep your cool."

Reese replied, "If a lion sees its prey, do you think it pounces immediately, or waits for the perfect moment to strike?"

Calvin got it and looked at her with admiration. "You're really clever."

After the market opened, those people were busy discussing which stocks to buy.

Calvin turned to Reese, "Reese, which one should we go for?"

"Let's go with that one," Reese pointed to a stock in the far corner, pretty much unnoticed if you didn't look closely.

Jesse, standing nearby, chimed in, "But... if we buy that stock, we might lose big. This company hasn't done anything in the past two years and is barely covering its expenses. It might only last another six months."

Reese explained, "But their online sales are solid, and they're cheap. They make small profits but sell a lot, which is easier to market than those big brands."

When the folks who had been badmouthing Reese heard she wanted to buy the most inconspicuous stock, they couldn't help but mock her.

"Young lady, you probably don't even understand stocks. Everyone else is buying profitable companies, and here you are buying one that hasn't made money in years. Do you think you're some poor soul favored by God? Do you think this company will suddenly take off just because you bought its stock?"

"Exactly, what does a girl know? We shouldn't follow her lead and buy stocks that won't make any money."

"This stock market is really something. How can just anyone get in here? Don't the security guards do anything?"

This time, Calvin couldn't hold back. "What do you mean by that? Is there a rule about who can come in here?"

One of them replied, "Even if there's no rule, they shouldn't let someone who knows nothing in."

Calvin snapped, "You damn old men, which companies are you from?"

"We're from SwiftTech and BrightWave. But you probably haven't heard of them. Our companies have been doing really well lately, making a lot of money. I bet in a few years, we'll surpass the Flynn Group."

Reese couldn't help but laugh, "You two really have big ambitions, wanting to surpass the Flynn Group. But have you compared your company's profits with the Flynn Group's for the first half of the year to see how far apart you are?"

Feeling exposed, the two men were a bit embarrassed but still stubborn. "With our company's current trend, surpassing the Flynn Group is just a matter of time."

"Is that so? I hope you get your wish. Otherwise, I don't know how you'll back up such big talk," Reese's disdainful gaze swept over the two men, her eyes cold and sharp, exuding an air of superiority that left them momentarily speechless.

They exchanged a glance, both understanding each other, and were even more surprised that such a young woman in her twenties could have such a powerful presence. Her gaze seemed to pierce through their eyes and into their hearts, making them fearful.

But having seen their share of ups and downs, they quickly regained their composure. "Since you're so confident that buying this stock will make money, go ahead. When you lose, let's see how arrogant you still are."

Calvin gave the two men a disdainful look. "Who's being arrogant here? Why can't we each buy our own stocks? Besides, the stocks you bought might actually lose money."

Reese's judgment was never wrong. She had a unique insight and the sharpest eye in this field.

Reese loved seeing people dig their own graves. "Alright, how about we make a bet? If you lose, what then?"
