Chapter 610 The Genius of the Financial World
The security guard looked freaked out. "I... I don't know, Mr. Turner. Can you help me out here? If I lose this job, my wife and kids are gonna be in a tough spot."
Jesse sighed. "Look, some things are just out of our hands. Not everyone gets a second chance. But since you've been with us for so long, I'll make an exception and give you an extra month's pay. Both of you, actually. Just be more careful wherever you end up next."
With that, Jesse headed inside.
The two security guards were still in shock. They got canned just for saying a few words.
Reese and Calvin made their way to the elevator. There was always an empty desk in this building, just for her.
As they got in the elevator, Calvin chuckled, "Reese, those security guards must be losing it. They got fired over a few words."
Reese wasn't surprised. "The richer the place, the more this stuff happens. Too many people had prejudices. But in my territory, I won't let that slide."
Calvin nodded. "Yeah, especially with their attitude. It was gross. They're just security guards, but working in a fancy place, they forget who they are."
Reese told Calvin, "Tell Jesse to cancel the access control. If this happens again, he’s out."
Calvin nodded. "Got it, I'll let Jesse know."
When they reached the 31st floor, Reese sat at her desk.
Downstairs, the employees were buzzing with gossip.
"What's going on? I heard the chairman is here. That mysterious chairman we've never seen. The security guards didn't recognize them and got fired on the spot."
"Serves them right! Those guards needed a reality check. They were so arrogant, not letting clients in without some card."
"Not just outsiders, even we needed those cards. I heard the new chairman plans to get rid of them, so no more cards."
"Really? That's awesome! It'll save me some money each month."
With Reese in the building, everyone was talking. Many wanted to see her.
There were even rumors that the building's owner was a financial genius. Any stock she picked would make money.
There had been cases in the past few years. There was a time when the stock market had been a mess, and many companies had been struggling, some even going bankrupt.
But in that chaos, a woman had bought the least promising stock and made a fortune because she bought it when no one else believed in it.
Since then, many stocks she picked made her a lot of money, earning her legendary status here. But no one had ever seen her. Some thought she was a woman, others a man. There were all kinds of guesses.
But Reese never cared about any of that.
Her showing up this time caused quite a buzz. She was here to check out the stock market and see what to buy next. While market turbulence could be a disaster for some, for her, it was a chance to turn things around.
Just then, Jesse knocked. "Ms. Brooks."
Calvin opened the door. "What's up?"
Jesse looked a bit uneasy. "The folks downstairs are dying to see you. They want to know which stock you're eyeing this time."
Calvin shrugged and looked at Reese. "Reese, they're here for you."
"Send them away. I have nothing to say," Reese replied.
"But there are reporters downstairs wanting an interview," Jesse added.
Reese rolled her eyes at the mention of reporters.
Calvin, sensing her annoyance, quickly asked, "Who spilled the beans?"
Jesse, looking nervous, said, "No one leaked it. Maybe it was because when you were outside with the security guard, people in the company noticed."
Calvin knew Reese hated crowds and being in the spotlight.
He suggested, "Reese, maybe we should leave for today and come back another time to check the stock market."
"No need. I have other things to do another day. I can't come here every day," Reese shook her head.
Besides, the stock market was down these days, which was a prime opportunity for them.
Calvin hesitated. "But those people outside..."
Reese instructed, "Have the security guards block them. Jesse, you go and send those people away. Just don't let them mess with my stock market review."
Jesse looked troubled. "That's... not easy. Many of them came specifically for you, and some are industry big shots. We can't afford to tick them off."
Reese stood up from her desk. "It's fine. They won't recognize me anyway. Let them in, and find someone to pretend to be me."
Jesse thought this was a good idea. After all, who would think a woman in her twenties could sway the stock market? Most would assume it was a middle-aged man or woman.
Even seasoned pros might not succeed, let alone others.
When he first started here, he thought the boss was some rich girl. But it turned out she was on her own, and her backing was herself.
He was cautious of Reese's complexity, not knowing how much power she had hidden. Also, he genuinely admired her. Many people hadn't even started whereas she was already wealthy and powerful.
Jesse snapped out of his thoughts. "I'll handle it. Once everything is set, you can go downstairs. You rest here for a bit. The market opens today, so you can check it out."
Reese nodded. "Okay."
Jesse quickly left.
Calvin looked down from upstairs and was almost freaked out. "Reese, there are so many people down there, all here for you. You know, Jesse set up the access card. If you hadn't shown up today, he probably would have made a lot of money again."
Standing next to Calvin, she glanced down. "If I didn't come today, he wouldn't have made it either. Usually, there wouldn't be so many people gathered here. Check the finances later. Jesse must have taken a lot of money."
Calvin agreed. "Definitely."
At that moment, Malcolm called, "Hey, I'm gonna check the stock market later. Wanna come? I saw you were looking at stocks the past few days."
