Chapter 562 A Bit of Longing

Reese had never spilled the beans about her quirky talent; it was just a hobby she picked up for kicks.

There was this phase where she got totally hooked on a TV show and used some dubbing software to voice all the epic scenes.

But once the novelty wore off, she ditched it.

Reese, always humble, shrugged it off, saying, "I just did it for fun. No biggie. Tons of college kids can do this stuff, and they're way better than me."

Justin shook his head, "Nah, Mrs. Flynn, I don't care about the others. You're seriously awesome."

To him, nailing Malcolm's voice was next-level cool.

Malcolm wasn't fazed by Reese's hidden talent; he knew she was just that awesome.

He wrapped an arm around her shoulder, beaming with pride.

"Honey, what other tricks you got up your sleeve? Show 'em all. I wanna see how many more surprises you got for me."

"None," she said, mostly 'cause it had been ages and she couldn't remember.

Malcolm wasn't buying it. She'd said the same thing before, and yet, surprise after surprise kept popping up.

Justin let out a sigh of relief, "Well, in that case, we can call this sorted. Otherwise, the old lady would've been bummed."

Malcolm turned to Justin, "You gotta check what Wade's original voice sounded like."

"Okay. As long as the old lady doesn't actually wanna see her son, we're good."

Even if she did, it was a no-go.

Justin felt bad that Wade had been dead for two years and his mom had been waiting all this time. Even as an assistant, it was tough to watch.

Luckily, Reese was kind enough to give her some cash, which might bring a bit of comfort.

After that, Justin went off to dig up Wade's original voice. Since he'd been dead for two years, it wasn't gonna be a walk in the park and might take a while.

Malcolm and Reese headed straight to the police station to find Officer Rex Ingram, who was on Nolan's case.

Rex saw Malcolm and walked over, asking politely, "Mr. Flynn, got any new leads?"

Malcolm said, "We found out Nolan's got more than just two murders on his plate. He lured the victims and then hit up their families for cash, claiming they owed him. But they didn't owe him squat; he totally played them."

Rex frowned, "If that's true, we'll definitely take it seriously."

This was life and death stuff. Before, it was said that if Nolan hadn't directly sold guns to Vincent, it might not be a big deal. But now, if this checked out, he's looking at the death penalty for sure.

Reese asked Rex, "Still no info? Can't find him?"

Rex shook his head, "Nope. We haven't got any leads yet. He might've already skipped the country."

Reese frowned. "If he really skipped town, we're in deep trouble. Tracking him down overseas ain't gonna be a walk in the park. Our cops can't just go chasing folks around the globe."

It was wild to think Nolan had the chops to pull off an international escape. Not the cops' fault; they just hit a dead end.

Nolan seemed to vanish into thin air. No matter where they looked, he was a ghost.

Malcolm had grilled Justin before, and Justin came up empty-handed, not a single clue.

Malcolm thought for a sec and said, "I got a hunch he didn't leave the country. Bet he's still hiding out in Atlanta."

Rex looked spooked. "No way, Mr. Flynn. Why would he stick around Atlanta? He knows he's toast if he gets caught."

Malcolm broke it down, "Think about it. We all assume Nolan's gone abroad, so all the cops are looking there. What about right here in town?"

Reese's eyes lit up, "Yeah, Nolan wants us to think he's overseas, so we ignore Atlanta."

Rex nodded, "Makes sense. We'll shift our focus back here. Chasing ghosts abroad with no leads is a waste of time."

"Cool," Malcolm agreed.

Reese handed over the evidence to Rex. "Here's the dirt on Nolan. Check it out. If you need witnesses, we got 'em."

Rex was stoked to hear they had both evidence and witnesses.

"Awesome, we'll get on it right away. Once we nab him, he's going down."

Reese and Malcolm were itching for that day. Nolan had hurt too many people and done too much dirty work.

After dropping off the evidence, Reese and Malcolm bounced. They had other stuff to handle, like calling Wade's mom.

After years of waiting, she finally got a call. Even if she couldn't see him, it was something.

Justin brought the recorder back to the Flynn mansion. "Mr. Flynn, this is Wade's voice, recorded at work. It's a bit fuzzy, but the factory kept it 'cause they were sticklers. Everyone had to take an oath when they started."

Good thing they had this. Without it, they'd be screwed. Even if they could fake it, it wouldn't fly.

Wade's mom knew her son's voice inside out. Even the tiniest slip-up would blow their cover.

If Reese was gonna make the call, she had to nail it, or it would all fall apart.

She played the recording. Wade's voice wasn't exactly smooth, but it was strong and clear.

If Wade's mom ever found out her son had been dead for years...

But they did their best. If more problems popped up, they were out of options.
