Chapter 456 Scapegoat
Everly was sent to an apartment owned by Malcolm. It was fully furnished and ready for immediate move-in. Everly's face was clouded with gloom, and she seemed to be in an extremely low mood.
Justin said to Everly, "Miss Flynn, this place is in one of the best locations. It will be very convenient for you to buy anything you need."
But this wasn't what Everly wanted. She wanted to return to the Flynn family home, to be by Malcolm's side. Now, being left here alone, the pent-up grievance in her heart had reached its peak, yet she couldn't vent it.
Looking at the empty house, Everly thought about living here alone in the future, without Malcolm and without her grandpa. She felt as if she had been abandoned by the entire world.
Everly tightly grabbed Justin's sleeve and pleaded, "Justin, can you go back and talk to Malcolm? Ask him to let me return. I don't want to live here alone."
Justin was also helpless. "Miss Flynn, I believe you know Mr. Flynn's temper better than I do. Once he makes a decision, it's generally not easily changed."
"I know it so I'm asking you to talk to him. Or maybe you could ask Grandpa to put in a good word for me. Malcolm always listens to Grandpa," Everly pleaded some more.
Perhaps Grandpa was also angry today, thinking she had spoken too harshly to Reese. But over the years, Grandpa had treated her exceptionally well, like his own granddaughter. He definitely wouldn't leave her out in the cold.
Once his anger subsided, Justin could say a few good words for her, and Grandpa would surely agree to her coming home.
Justin didn't know whether to refuse or cruelly tell her the truth in the face of Everly's plea.
"Miss Flynn, I believe you understand some things better than I do. It's just that you don't want to face them. Whether it's Mr. Flynn's feelings for you or his decision to make you move out, you know the outcome better than anyone else."
Justin's words were like a knife stabbing into her already bleeding heart. At this moment, it was even more shattered and excruciatingly painful.
The light in Everly's eyes gradually dimmed, and her hands fell weakly to her sides.
"You can go now," she said dejectedly.
Justin nodded. "Then Miss Flynn, please get a good rest."
After saying that, Justin got into the car and left. Everly walked inside and sat on the couch, thinking about what had happened tonight. No matter how she looked at it, she felt resentful. Why could Reese stay there while she was kicked out?
Clearly, she was the second young lady of the Flynn family. She had stayed in the Flynn family home for so long, didn't that count for more than Reese?
In the end, Malcolm wanted to kick her out because of an outsider. No, the Flynn family home was where she was supposed to stay for a lifetime. She couldn't let Reese take her place.
Everly dialed Shirley's number. Now, only Shirley could help her. After all, they shared a common enemy.
Shirley was quite surprised to receive Everly's call but remained polite.
"Everly, what can I do for you?"
Now, without the Sawyer family, Shirley had become an ordinary person. She no longer had the aura of the former young lady of the Sawyer family. Time had taught her to bow to fate. For her, the most important thing now was to survive and improve her life.
"I'll send you my location. Come over now," Everly said.
"It's so late. Can it wait until tomorrow?" Shirley asked.
Shirley checked the time. It was almost midnight, and it would take at least half an hour to get there by taxi.
Everly's eyebrows arched in mockery. "If you don't want the money, you don't have to come."
"Alright, I'll come over in a bit. By the way, Everly, if this is about that bitch Reese, I suggest you find someone who can actually help you."
Shirley's words reminded Everly. Vincent was the only one who could help her and provide substantial assistance.
Everly changed her mind and told Shirley not to come for now. She would call her after discussing things with Vincent.
Fortunately, Vincent came over quickly.
He was wearing a suit, looking rushed. He hadn't been seen at the Flynn family house these past few days, and it wasn't clear what he had been busy with.
Vincent took off his coat and sat on the couch. He rolled up his sleeves and adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses.
"Did Reese hit you?"
Everly pouted in grievance. "She did more than that. She almost strangled me to death."
Thinking about it still scared Everly. She had never thought she would come so close to death.
Vincent seemed very tired today. He leaned against the couch and rubbed his temples.
"You were too impulsive. Knowing Malcolm's feelings for her, you still provoked her. That's why you're stuck in this predicament now."
Everly felt even more aggrieved after hearing this.
"I came to you for comfort, not to be blamed."
"If you keep acting on impulse, I can't guarantee you'll ever return to the Flynn family home," Vincent said.
Vincent didn't want to waste words with Everly. He was already very tired today and just wanted to resolve the issue quickly and go back to rest.
Even though Everly felt uncomfortable hearing his words, she didn't dare to argue with Vincent.
She lowered her head and eventually gave in.
"Fine, please help me think of a way to stop Reese from succeeding."
"The only way now is to get Reese out of the way, then find an opportunity to talk to Malcolm. Maybe that will work," Vincent suggested.
Everly thought this might be a good idea. "The problem is, they are inseparable every day."
"If Malcolm gets so busy that Reese has to help him, then you can make your move."
Everly smiled bitterly. "You make it sound so easy."
"Recently, a developer has been taking kickbacks and using substandard materials. The construction site will likely have issues in the next few days. You can find someone to leak this information to Reese. She will definitely help Malcolm solve it."
Only by using Everly could Vincent avoid taking responsibility. Even if Malcolm investigated, it wouldn't lead back to him. He could operate behind the scenes to take over the Flynn Group.
Since Grandpa didn't value him and thought he was useless no matter what he did, there was no need to keep up appearances.
Even if he became the Flynn family's scapegoat, Vincent was willing to take a gamble for himself.
Everly, unaware of his plans, had already become his tool and scapegoat.
