Chapter 563 Really Spent Time in Prison
Justin gave a nod, thinking he'd hang around Reese later to see just how cool this whole thing was.
After all, no one he knew had ever done voice acting before.
Especially when Reese nailed Malcolm's voice, it totally blew his mind.
Reese listened to the recording in the room and got a feel for Wade's voice.
She played it like ten times, made sure she got it down, and then hit up Malcolm.
Next, they called Wade's mom, but they tweaked the number; it was actually Reese's phone they used.
After dialing, there was just silence on the other end for what felt like forever.
Half a minute later, Wade's mom, sounding all shaky, asked, "Wade?"
Reese cleared her throat and started mimicking Wade's voice.
"Mom..."
Hearing that, Wade's mom's voice cracked with emotion.
Reese could totally picture how emotional she must be, hearing her son's voice after so many years.
Usually, she just had his photos. Now, even though she couldn't see him, hearing his voice was a big deal.
Reese went on, "It's me, Mom. You good? I heard from the boss he dropped by and gave you some cash. Don't worry, I'm doing fine here, but the job's kinda special, so I can't come back. But you don't need to stress."
Wade's mom, crying, said, "Okay, I know your boss. Met him. He's really nice and gave us a lot of money. You don't need to worry about me. I'll be here waiting, not going anywhere."
She kept crying as she talked.
Hearing that heart-wrenching tone, Reese's eyes got all teary. She envied Wade for having such a caring mom.
As for her own family...
Yeah, better not go there.
Reese comforted her, "Mom, don't worry. I've made a lot of money now. When I come back, I'll take good care of you."
Wade's mom replied, "Yes, I know you're great. You take care of yourself out there. If you can, come back to see me. If not, it's okay."
Reese said, "Mom, don't worry. If I can leave here, I'll definitely come back to see you. Don't worry."
Wade's mom answered, "Okay, that's good. Are you okay over there? Don't push yourself too hard. I don't need wealth and luxury. I just want to live safely with you."
Reese, choking up, said, "Yeah, I know, Mom. Take care of yourself. The money the boss gave is what I earned through hard work. Later, get someone to fix the house, buy more food and clothes in town, or find someone to help you with this. When I come back, I'll have a place to stay, right?"
Reese said this on purpose, thinking that Wade's mom probably wouldn't really use the money.
By saying this, maybe she'd think her son might come back anytime.
Hearing this, Wade's mom was over the moon and quickly agreed, "Okay, okay, I'll do just that. I'll find someone to handle it tomorrow."
Reese added, "Mom, take care. I gotta get back to work now, so I'll hang up."
"You take care too." Wade's mom was still reluctant to hang up.
After hanging up, Reese felt a heavy weight on her chest, her nose tingling. She sighed, "Hope Wade's mom can find some comfort in the stuff we sent."
Malcolm stepped forward and wrapped Reese in his arms, gently patting her back, saying, "Alright, we've done all we can. Some things are just out of our hands. Don't beat yourself up."
After all, life was something money couldn't buy.
Reese hadn't felt this upset in a long time, mainly because she saw how deeply Wade's mom loved her son. She could picture the old lady sitting on the stone bench at the door every day, eagerly looking towards the village entrance when Wade wasn't home.
Malcolm knew Reese had a soft heart, but past events had forced her to hide her compassion. In situations like this, she could only arm herself.
Luckily, he never gave up on her back then; otherwise, he wouldn't have seen the real her now.
Malcolm comforted Reese for a long time. He was always super patient when it came to her.
Reese, after all, had seen a lot. She quickly pulled herself together because she knew they had more important things to do next. If they could bring Nolan to justice soon, that would be the best comfort for Wade's mom.
Even if she didn't know now, she would eventually find out. It was just a matter of time.
However, unbeknownst to them, their actions were passed on to Nolan.
Sofia found where Nolan was hiding, a super concealed spot that Reese and the others would never have thought of.
Even Sofia didn't expect Nolan to be so bold, choosing such an obvious place. He truly was someone who had seen a lot.
No wonder he had evaded the cops for so long; even Malcolm and Reese hadn't tracked down Nolan's whereabouts.
But Nolan wasn't in good shape either, especially his face, which looked noticeably haggard.
Sofia told Nolan about recent events, and Nolan was somewhat shocked as he asked, "You mean they found Wade's home, got the receipts, and handed them over to the cops?"
Sofia confirmed, "Yeah, Nolan, I saw it with my own eyes. The cops have the evidence and are now actively hunting you. They seem to have realized something and are no longer focusing their forces abroad. It should be the info provided by Reese and the others."
Nolan didn't doubt this at all. He knew Reese's mind was indeed sharp. Even if she didn't realize something at the time, she was still much more responsive and perceptive than others.
After thinking for a moment, Nolan muttered to himself, "Reese has to go. If she stays alive, I might really spend the rest of my life in prison."
