Chapter 391 Enemies Meeting on a Narrow Path

"Why can't we turn enemies into family?" Sebastian wondered, puzzled. Their family was already wealthy, with enough money to last for generations. Why reject a family member who was related to them by blood and powerful.

Clara almost felt an urge to slap Sebastian across the face.

"Are you stupid? You have no idea what Reese Brooks is plotting against our family. How dare you even think about bringing an enemy into our home!"

Sebastian pouted. "She's already married into the Flynn family. How could she still have any bad intentions towards us? Both of us are powerful and wealthy, isn't that good enough?"

Clara was on the verge of losing her temper with Sebastian. "You need to stop talking," she snapped.

Sebastian had to shut up.

Stephen glared at the two of them, his frustration mounting. "If you have time to argue, you'd be better off figuring out our next move. Once the Flynn Group starts their investments, we're bound to face significant repercussions."

Clara seethed with anger at the mere thought of Reese, her teeth grinding in frustration.

"That Reese Brooks, indeed, is not a good person for scheming behind our backs."

Upon hearing these words, Stephen's expression changed abruptly, his face contorting into a mask of rage as he erupted in outcry.

"Weren't you just saying you never went to see Reese Brooks?"

"I... "

Clara suddenly realized she had accidentally revealed a crucial piece of information.

But what options did Stephen have? He couldn't resort to physical violence against Clara. Their top priority was figuring out how to protect their interests at this critical moment.

Stephen was beginning to rue his decisions. Had he known Reese would be this reckless and audacious, he would have never entertained the idea of involving her in the first place.

But Stephen couldn't help but think, if he allowed someone as resourceful as Reese to slip away, wouldn't that be his loss?

Given their current circumstances, why not take a chance and try to persuade Reese to return? Otherwise, the Hawthorne family might not survive this crisis.

"Think of a plan to bring Reese Brooks back; otherwise, the Flynn Group won't back down."

That was the only way.

But Clara was reluctant: "Why should we bring Reese Brooks back? Even if she returns, what good would it do? The situation has already unfolded."

Stephen shot Clara a glare. "Are you daft? Can't you see why Malcolm is targeting us? It's all because of Reese Brooks."

How could Clara even entertain the idea of bringing Reese back? If Reese were to return, then wouldn't that mean…

Clara now even suspected that Reese had premeditated everything she said that all of this was part of her plan.

Indeed, Reese turned out to be a quite calculating woman.

Reese was quite eloquent today in front of Clara, claiming she wanted to return to the Hawthorne family and assuredly settle scores with her. Stephen wasted no time making the decision to bring Reese back immediately.

Clara was already contemplating urging Alexander to devise a plan. If they allowed Reese to return, the Hawthorne family would only plunge further into chaos.

Upon hearing Stephen's intention to bring Reese back, Sebastian couldn't help but feel overjoyed.

Sebastian had always been thick-skinned; after all, he had been blamed the most since he was a child.

"I think we can influence our sister, make her feel our love."

This time, Clara couldn't resist and actually grabbed Sebastian's ear.

"Are you out of your mind? Trying to use love to influence her? Have you not seen how she keeps everyone at arm's length? The way she looks at us, colder than a stranger. Do you really expect her to see you as family? I bet when push comes to shove, she'll devour you without batting an eyelash."

Sebastian cried out in pain, "Mom, that hurts!"

"You know what pain feels like? I wonder if you'll still be helping outsiders in the future. Your mind is always elsewhere."

"Enough, can you two quiet down? Let me think about this for a moment. You, go find Alexander and have him talk to Reese Brooks, see if he can persuade Malcolm Flynn to drop this idea."

Among the family, Stephen's greatest trust lay with Alexander. After all, the eldest son tended to act with much more composure compared to the younger ones, who often acted solely on impulse, without much thought.

Clara's heart lifted at the mention of Stephen seeking Alexander's help. She was eager to have Alexander handle the situation.

Clara exclaimed eagerly, "I'll call Alexander right away and discuss this matter with him."

Stephen, worn out from Clara and Sebastian's constant bickering, finally interjected, "Alright, both of you, please leave. I need some rest."

Sebastian nodded. "Alright, Dad, you rest first. Mom and I will head back."

Stephen, his eyes already closed in fatigue, waved his hand dismissively.

Once Sebastian and Clara had left, Stephen finally felt some peace and quiet.

As Sebastian and Clara walked outside the hospital, Clara felt it necessary to remind Sebastian once again.

From now on, I won't allow you to defend Reese Brooks anymore. She has no blood relation to you; she didn't even come from the same womb. Even if she wants to be part of the Hawthorne family, it's definitely for her own agenda. The success of the Hawthorne family today is thanks to the efforts of you and your brothers. By urging Dad to bring Reese back, haven't you seen Reese's temper? It's bound to cause major trouble.

Upon hearing this, Sebastian seemed to catch a hint of something. He looked at Clara with curiosity written all over his face.

Mom, did you have a tough time dealing with Reese Brooks today?

With the lesson learned from earlier, Sebastian dared not address Reese as "sister" again.

Just mentioning what happened at noon made Clara furious, her face turning pale with anger.

"Can you believe it? That Reese Brooks is nothing short of a shrew, a weirdo! I mean, look at her, she seems so frail and delicate, but where did she find the strength to knock down three strong men? You should've seen her, the way she acted was so exaggerated, not a single drop of sweat on her face after all that fighting."

She's just a weirdo, a monster.

Clara had never encountered someone like her before.

Sebastian, however, was not surprised at all. In fact, he seemed almost amused, a smirk playing at his lips. Clara naturally caught onto this, giving Sebastian a sideways glance.

"What are you laughing at? How can you still laugh at a time like this?"

"No, Mom, don't be so upset. Actually, you weren't the only one who suffered at her hands. You don't need to take it so personally."

Sebastian, still smirking, tried to console Clara.

Clara glared at her son in disappointment, giving a cold snort in response.

"Never mind, I don't feel like talking to you anymore."

After saying that, Clara got into the car and drove away.

Sebastian had always been irresponsible, with a carefree attitude that seemed unaffected by any crisis.

In the evening, Sebastian was ready to unwind and relieve some of the recent stress.

On Reese's end, Alyssa arranged an evening meet-up with a few fans. Feeling a bit apprehensive about being alone, she felt compelled to bring Reese along.

Reese, could you please accompany me? I'd feel a bit awkward going alone.

Reese has never been keen on such occasions, so he declined without much thought.

"I have plans for the evening, so feel free to go by yourself, or perhaps you could ask your brother to accompany you."

"What are you joking about? My brother accompanying me? He's like a workaholic, always busy. Please, just one hour, can you accompany me for just one hour?" Alyssa pleaded, looking as if she had already made up her mind to have her way with Reese.

Reese finally nodded reluctantly, "Alright, fine, I'll go with you, but only for half an hour."
