Chapter 475: Stopped by Someone
Virgil's excitement grew. Their company's current profits were nothing compared to the Flynn Group. Securing a project from them would mean significant profits.
"Alright, I'm in."
Vincent rose from his seat. "If there are no issues, have your assistant draft a cooperation agreement. We can finalize it today."
Virgil was elated. This was a golden opportunity.
But...
"Mr. Flynn, how exactly do you want me to cooperate?"
"I need your company's full support as my backing."
That meant both resources and manpower.
Virgil was taken aback. "You want our resources and manpower? You're asking me to go against the Flynn Group."
"You're not on good terms with them anyway, so why worry? Even if there's a pie in the sky, you can't have it all to yourself, right, Mr. Newman?"
Virgil thought long and hard. It was risky, but the potential profits were huge.
It all came down to whether he was willing to take the gamble.
Thinking about the Flynn Group's multi-million-dollar projects, he was tempted.
"Alright, I agree."
Vincent's lips curled into a triumphant smile as he extended his hand toward Virgil. "So, Wish us a pleasant cooperation."
"Absolutely, looking forward to it!"
The assistant printed out the contract, and they were ready to sign when Virgil's phone rang.
He looked at it, his expression changing, and gestured to Vincent.
"Mr. Flynn, please wait a moment. I need to take this call."
"Sure."
Vincent thought, 'since the contract was already printed, it was a done deal.' So he relaxed on the sofa, sipping his coffee. He had to admit, the coffee in Virgil's office was quite good.
Virgil stood by the floor-to-ceiling window and answered the call. "Reese, what brings you to call me today? Yes, you really know everything. This... but we've already prepared and agreed on the terms. You... really, alright, I'll inform him. Goodbye, Reese. Please visit our company sometime, and give me the chance to treat you."
Vincent found it strange. Although he couldn't hear the conversation clearly, Virgil's attitude was very humble. Who could make Virgil, a chairman, so respectful?
Vincent grew curious about the person's background.
Virgil kept nodding and agreeing, his attitude almost servile, and the assistant beside him wasn't surprised at all, indicating it wasn't the first time.
Vincent couldn't help but ask the assistant, "Who is Mr. Newman talking to that makes him so polite?"
"Mr. Flynn, you may not know, but this person is a big shot in the industry, though very low-key. Many people don't know her, but her skills are unmatched, possibly only rivaled by Malcolm. She's a genius in various fields."
"Mr. Newman achieved his current success under her guidance. There's a saying in the industry: if you get her advice, you'll never lack money or women. But she's very mysterious, almost impossible to find unless she seeks you out. Her call to Mr. Newman today must be important."
Vincent had never heard of such a person and was eager to learn more.
Little did he know, if he knew this person was here to ruin his plans, he would rather remain ignorant.
Virgil hung up and walked to Vincent, looking troubled. "Mr. Flynn, I am so sorry."
Vincent thought Virgil was apologizing for the call and casually said, "It's nothing. No need to worry about it, Mr. Newman."
Virgil still felt uneasy. "Mr. Flynn, you might have misunderstood."
"What do you mean?" Vincent was puzzled. He hadn't done anything, so why was Virgil apologizing? Did he back out?
Virgil sighed and decided to be honest. "Since you asked, I won't hide it. The call you heard was from someone who doesn't want us to cooperate. Do you know Reese?"
Vincent immediately denied, "I don't know any Reese, I..."
At this point, Vincent froze, a bad feeling rising in his heart.
"The Reese you mentioned, could it be Reese Brooks?"
Virgil shook his head. "I don't know her full name. Everyone just calls her Reese, and she has significant influence in the industry."
Vincent hoped it wasn't Reese Brooks, as he couldn't believe she had such power. How could she make Virgil back out with just one call?
He took out his phone and quickly called Reese, who answered.
"Hello, Mr. Flynn, what can I do for you?"
"Did you just call Mr. Newman and tell him not to cooperate with me?"
"You're quite smart. You called to confirm if the Reese he mentioned is me. Well, it is. I have the power to ensure you can't find any partners, so stop causing trouble behind my back. It won't work."
Reese's tone was calm, as if discussing something trivial, but to Vincent, it was a devastating blow. Reese had blocked all his paths.
He was furious, gripping his phone tightly, veins bulging, and shouted at Reese.
"You're nuts! I won't let you get away with this!"
Reese remained unfazed, calmly replying.
"I haven't even started with you, and you're already threatening me. Fine, let's see who wins."
