Chapter 588 It's a Proposal
Stephen kinda had a hunch about how things would turn out, but he still advised Alexander. "Hey man, tread lightly around Reese for a bit. Our biz is kinda tanking lately, and their resources are almost outpacing ours. If we piss her off and our numbers drop, we're screwed."
Alexander gave a quick nod, "Got it."
Stephen hadn't really clocked Reese's power before, but now it was making him jittery.
Who would've thought a girl who got barely any attention could be such a powerhouse? With the Flynn family's clout, they could probably flip all of Atlanta on its head.
The company's recent rollercoaster ride was wearing him thin. Even though he was applying himself to snag more projects, the partners seemed to be all buddy-buddy with Reese.
Every time he pitched a collab, they'd come up with some lame excuse to bail.
He knew it was all Reese's doing. He never realized his daughter had such mad skills.
Stephen ordered, "Go over there a few more times and see if you can smooth things over."
Alexander looked like he'd seen a ghost, "Dad, you serious? Go again?"
Just seeing the folks in Reese's room gave him the creeps. They looked at him like they wanted to rip his head off.
But Stephen ran the show, and even Alexander didn't dare to cross him.
Stephen said demandingly, "When I say go, you go. Quit whining!"
Alexander had no choice but to agree, "Alright, I get it."
"And keep tabs on Sebastian. Make sure he stays away from Alyssa Flynn. If things go south, we're in deep trouble."
He didn't want another daughter-in-law like Sebastian in the future.
Alexander felt a headache coming on with all these orders. Sebastian was also getting tangled up with the Flynn family for no good reason.
"Got it, I'll keep an eye on him."
After hanging up, Alexander felt even more stressed but had no way out.
Somehow, news of Reese being in the hospital leaked and the media ran with it. Every day, people from all over Atlanta and even other cities sent pricey health products and other stuff.
There were gifts from real estate moguls, hotel bigwigs, finance gurus, and folks from all sorts of industries, practically filling up the whole ward.
Malcolm and Alyssa looked at the room packed with goodies, especially Alyssa, who was even more in awe of Reese.
She excitedly went up to check everything out, then turned to Reese, who was chillin' on the hospital bed. "Reese, I had no idea you had such a huge network, even internationally. Can you hook me up to expand my studio's biz?"
Reese shook her head, "Nah, in esports, I was just messing around for fun. I only know a few pro players."
Alyssa couldn't help but get flabbergasted again. "Oh my god, Reese, you think knowing pro players is no big deal now? Do you know how many people would kill for a chance to meet them?"
Thinking back to when Reese first showed up, she used to rag on her, calling her a clueless country bumpkin. Turns out, Reese was a total boss.
And her skills was not even a smidge below Malcolm's.
Malcolm chuckled beside her, walked over to Reese, and gave her a meaningful look while ruffling her hair. "Didn't know my girl was keeping so many secrets. Anything else you're hiding from me?"
Reese gave an awkward smile, "Uh... probably not."
"Probably?" Seeing Reese's momentary blank look, he figured she just couldn't remember.
In other words, Reese might have a ton of hidden talents even she wasn't aware of.
Reese shrugged it off, "As long as we sort out the current mess, it's all good."
Noticing it was getting late, Reese knew the Hawthorne family had strong prejudices against her and didn't want Sebastian hanging around. "Sebastian, you should head back."
Sebastian looked like a kicked puppy, "I'm not leaving, Reese. I wanna stay and take care of you."
"There's nothing to take care of. Go home."
"Nope, I'm staying right here."
Sebastian was dead set on not leaving.
Reese frowned, "There are people here to look after me. I don't need you. Besides, if I really need help with something, do you think you can handle it?"
That shut Sebastian up. He knew there were some things a man just couldn't help with.
However, he still didn't want to leave. Reese had a close call and almost died because of him. He wanted to stick around and make sure she was okay.
Sebastian tried to play it cool. "I didn't drive. It's a pain to get a cab near the hospital. I'll leave when someone brings my car."
Reese saw right through him. "Easy fix. Alyssa, can you take Sebastian home?"
Alyssa pointed at herself, surprised, "Me... Reese, I... I don't really wanna take him."
Sebastian hadn't planned on leaving, but Alyssa's reluctance rubbed him the wrong way.
He turned to Alyssa, "What's the big deal about giving me a ride? Is it gonna drain your gas or something? Besides, remember, you're gonna marry me someday. If you're this unwilling to give me a lift now, how's our marriage gonna work?"
Sebastian was always blunt, never sugarcoating anything. But he forgot Alyssa was a girl and might not take his straightforwardness well. Her calm face now had a slight blush.
Alyssa snapped at him, "Sebastian, what nonsense are you spouting?"
Sebastian raised an eyebrow. "When did I ever talk nonsense? Didn't you say yesterday in the hospital that you wanted to marry me? Changing your tune already?"
Even though Alyssa was usually bold and carefree, she was still a bit shy about relationships.
She looked down slightly, "I was just worried Reese wouldn't make it. Seeing your loyalty to her, I just... I just slipped."
Sebastian rarely saw Alyssa being shy and found it even more amusing.
He held back his laughter and said seriously, "I don't care. It's a proposal. You, Ms. Flynn, can't go back on your word!"
