Chapter 576 Earthquake

She hollered at Calvin, "Hey, come check this out! Is there another tunnel here?"

Calvin peeked inside and his eyes went wide, "Holy crap, Reese, there totally is."

"I'm going in to scope it out," Reese said, gearing up to dive in.

"Reese, hold up..." Calvin yanked her back, "What if it's dangerous in there?"

Reese said camly, "Relax, it'll be fine. If Sebastian's in there, we gotta get him out. And if there's a tunnel, Nolan might be in there, too. Makes sense, right?"

Hidden spots like this were rare, and they had a hunch Nolan might be lurking around.

Calvin wasn't cool with Reese going solo. This time, he was putting his foot down. "No way, Reese, I'm going."

"Calvin, who said you could ignore my orders? Step aside. If something goes down, I'll holler. The echo in here is crazy, so chill." Reese worried that if Calvin went in and things went south, she wouldn't be able to rescue them in time.

She grabbed a flashlight and turned to Calvin, "Look around for more clues. No signal in there. If things go sideways, roll with it. Remember, your life is top priority."

Calvin felt like this was some dramatic goodbye.

He wiped his eye and whimpered, "Reese, stop talking like you're writing your will. It's freaking me out."

Reese flicked him on the head. "I'm telling you to be careful. I'm not dead yet, so no need for a will."

Calvin took the hit without a fuss but still called out to her. "Reese, seriously, be careful."

"Yeah, yeah, stop nagging." Reese turned and headed into the tunnel.

Calvin, still worried, decided to call Malcolm. If anything happened to Reese, Malcolm would lose it.

He told the others, "Stay put and keep an eye out. If you find anything, call me. I'm stepping out to make a call."

"Got it." The rescue team responded in chorus.

Once outside, Calvin dialed Malcolm. Malcolm picked up, already sensing something was up with Reese. "What happened to Reese?"

Calvin thought, 'man, these two are so in sync.' He hadn't even said anything yet and Malcolm was already on it.

He reported, "Mr. Flynn, we found a tunnel in the factory. Sebastian went missing inside. The tracker in his tooth is dead, so we think he went in."

Malcolm snapped, "Send me your location now. I'm on my way."

"Okay." Calvin hung up and shot over the address.

Malcolm confirmed and sped over.

Inside, Reese was creeping through with just a flashlight. She had no clue when this tunnel was built, but the howling wind meant it led outside. Now, it was just about finding out where.

However, the paths inside were like a maze. Getting lost would be a piece of cake.

She'd just made a loop and ended up right back where she started.

Luckily, her memory was sharp enough to remember the twists and turns.

But it was pitch black and damp in there, with cockroaches, rats, and all sorts of nasty bugs. She had to fight the urge to puke more than once.

If she could just get out, she could figure out where Sebastian might've been taken.

Nolan probably wouldn't hurt Sebastian yet. Given who Sebastian was, if Nolan did anything to him, he'd have to bail from here.

She was about to move forward when she heard someone calling her name. "Reese, Reese..."

She frowned. That voice belonged to Malcolm.

How the heck did he get here?

Then it hit her—Calvin must've called Malcolm out of worry that something might happen to her.

She was about to shout back when she felt the ground shake. Her heart skipped a beat.

Could she be this unlucky?

If an earthquake hit now, the tunnel would definitely collapse.

Reese could feel the shaking inside, and it was the same outside.

She didn't dare respond to Malcolm, fearing that shouting might trigger a collapse.

She had to find an exit, fast.

Reese hurried towards the beam of light outside.

Malcolm, outside, didn't dare move. Calvin looked at Malcolm in shock. "Was that... an earthquake?"

Malcolm said worriedly, "Yeah, we can't call her now. If we do, it might cause a collapse and that'd be dangerous."

Hearing about the earthquake, Calvin felt a pang of guilt in his heart.

"If I had known, I should've gone in. I shouldn't have let Reese go. It's all my fault. If anything happens to Reese, I don't want to live, either."

Malcolm patted his shoulder, "Don't think like that. You know Reese. She never lets anyone she cares about take risks. She believes that if she encounters any danger, she can handle it. But if you went in, she couldn't guarantee your safety."

Over time, he had realized that Reese cared deeply for Calvin. She treated everyone under her command like family.

She cared about them more than herself.

Everyone thought Reese was the most heartless person, but in reality, she was the most grateful one.

Malcolm silently vowed to rescue Reese. He wouldn't allow anything to happen to her.

He instructed Justin, "Check where this tunnel leads. Quickly. Look for an exit outside. See if it leads anywhere. Deploy more people. This tunnel doesn't seem to extend too far."

Nolan's method was just a diversion.

He had probably taken Sebastian somewhere else, but without going in, they couldn't be sure.

Reese knew the risk but had to take it.

Hearing Malcolm's plan to find an exit, Calvin quickly stepped forward. "Count me in."

Malcolm agreed. "Go ahead. Check the terrain. It might lead to a river. See if there's a river nearby."
