Chapter 538 Messing with His Wife is Asking for Death
"It doesn't hurt, I'm fine now. I can handle it when we get back," Reese said, showing her usual toughness. She'd been through worse and felt she could manage this too.
But Malcolm couldn't stand seeing her in any pain. "When we get back, I'll get the best doctor for you. Just rest and recover. I'll take care of everything else."
Reese, not used to Malcolm's pampering, joked, "Aren't you worried I'll get spoiled?"
Malcolm smiled warmly. "I just want you happy," he said, leaning in to kiss her. But as soon as he got close, he felt his temperature rise and wanted to get even closer.
Sensing his intentions, Reese stopped him. "Honey, let's go back first."
The place was too creepy for romance.
Malcolm chuckled, resting his chin on her shoulder. "Yeah, we'll continue at home."
On the way back, they sat in the back seat, holding hands the whole time.
Louis and Calvin glanced at them, whispering.
"Louis, ever seen a guy as clingy as Mr. Flynn?"
Louis looked in the rearview mirror. "Nope, especially not someone like him."
Calvin grinned. "He's the perfect man."
Louis laughed and playfully smacked Calvin. "Can you be normal for once?"
Calvin was always the comedian, making everyone laugh. Some thought he was a fool, but Reese knew better. She wouldn't have kept him around if he was.
Calvin, eyes wide, argued with Louis. "How am I not normal? Without me, things would be so awkward. And if I hadn't found you guys, could those two have been subdued?"
Reese remembered something and asked Malcolm, "How did you find us?"
There was no signal here, and it was easy to get lost.
Malcolm pointed to Calvin. "You have to thank Calvin. His malfunctioning signal device, though weak, helped us find you quickly."
Calvin, proud, nudged Louis. "Did you hear that? Mr. Flynn praised me."
Louis sighed. "Alright, you're the best. Now drive. I just want to get out of this creepy place."
Back in Atlanta, Calvin and Louis felt the air was much better. There was no place like home.
Malcolm said, "Can you two take Reese home first? I have some things to handle."
Louis nodded. "No problem, Mr. Flynn. We'll get Reese home safely."
Malcolm was always polite to Louis and Calvin, knowing they were Reese's trusted aides who had risked their lives for her. Loyal people like them were rare.
"Thank you."
Reese knew Malcolm had to confront Carol and Otis to uncover the mastermind behind the chaos. Without resolving this, peace would remain elusive. "Come back when you're done. Be careful," she urged.
"With you waiting at home, I'll finish quickly and come back. Be good," Malcolm reassured her, playfully tousling her hair, making her blush in front of Louis and Calvin.
Malcolm noticed her blush, softening her usual cold demeanor and adding a touch of charm.
Louis rarely saw Reese this shy, and it was quite an eye-opener for them.
Calvin, always the joker, started teasing, "I never knew Reese had such a soft side. Just goes to show, if a man spoils her enough, even the coldest woman can turn into a kitten."
Louis shot him a look. "Why does it sound so awkward when you say it?"
"Fine, if it's not awkward for you, why don't you say it?"
"I couldn't say something like that," Louis replied.
Reese, getting annoyed, snapped, "If you two like arguing so much, how about I toss you both into a room so you can argue all you want?"
That shut them up instantly. They knew better than to push Reese's buttons. With sheepish looks, they hopped into the car, ready to take her home.
As Malcolm watched them leave, his gentle eyes turned sharp. Justin, standing nearby, felt the change in Malcolm's aura.
Malcolm turned to Justin. "Take those two to the warehouse. I'll interrogate them myself. I want to know who dared to send someone to kill Reese."
Justin, sensing the seriousness, nodded. "I'll get right on it."
Soon, Justin arrived at the warehouse with Carol and Otis. Carol's injuries weren't fatal, but Malcolm's precise shot had left her bleeding steadily. She was growing weaker by the minute.
As soon as Otis saw Malcolm, he pleaded, "You need to get her to a hospital. She'll die if this continues."
Malcolm's face showed no sympathy, his demeanor icy and authoritative.
With a cigarette in hand, Malcolm's gaze narrowed. "Who sent you? Talk, she lives. Stay quiet, she dies."
Otis and Carol weren't lovers, but they had faced life and death together. He couldn't let her die. "I'll tell you who sent us, but you have to promise she'll be safe."
Malcolm bent down slightly, eyes locked on Otis. "So, who sent you?"
"A guy in his twenties. He paid us a million to kill that woman. In a place like that, we thought we wouldn't get caught."
"How did you contact him? Do you have a phone number?" Malcolm pressed.
"No, he didn't use his own phone. We don't know much."
Malcolm had a hunch. He pulled out his phone and played a recording for Otis.
Otis nodded. "That's his voice."
Justin, overhearing, recognized the voice too. It was Vincent's. Vincent had forced Malcolm to disregard their brotherly bond. Malcolm had let him off once, but Vincent was still plotting against Reese.
Vincent probably thought that hurting Reese would break Malcolm emotionally. But he underestimated Malcolm's resolve. His plans would only lead to his own downfall.
Even without Malcolm's protection, Reese wasn't someone to be easily taken down. Vincent had either overestimated himself or underestimated Reese and Malcolm.
A dangerous glint flashed in Malcolm's eyes as he put away his phone.
"Since we've got the info, take Carol to the hospital. But wait until she's on her last breath. And make sure she never sees daylight again," Malcolm ordered.
Anyone who dared to harm Reese would pay the price, not just equally, but double!
