Chapter 492: Relatives Who Love to Cause Trouble

Reese raised an eyebrow. "You don't have anything to do tomorrow? You've been swamped lately, especially with the company in chaos after the investigation."

Malcolm shrugged. "No worries. Once the troublemakers are out, things will settle down. Thanks to you, those folks who looked down on you are eating their words. I always knew you were special."

He showered Reese with praise, almost like he wanted to use every compliment in the book.

"You really know how to sweet-talk, don't you?" Reese teased, though she was secretly pleased.

Malcolm wrapped an arm around her waist, his lips brushing against hers. The heat between them rose.

"This smooth talk is just for you," he murmured, his voice deep.

Reese appreciated that Malcolm was like this. She didn't have to constantly guess what he was thinking or question his love for her, unlike other women.

She knew Malcolm understood her once-guarded heart, making her feel more secure.

Reese looked into Malcolm's eyes. "How can a man be so clingy?"

"Because I want you to feel my love, and that will never change. Ask me as many times as you need."

Malcolm wouldn't let her feel insecure. Even though Reese was stronger than most, having been through so much, Malcolm wanted her to be happy.

He wanted to make up for the love she had missed.

Reese's heart melted. Even though she knew Malcolm was sincere, seeing his earnest eyes and hearing his serious voice made her heart flutter.

Malcolm gave her a feeling no one else could—a constant, all-encompassing love. She didn't want hot and cold, suspicion, or clever little tricks. She wanted this firm choice.

Love isn't about making others envious; it's about being chosen wholeheartedly, and that's what makes people envious.

She stared at Malcolm for a few seconds, then kissed him. Malcolm didn't miss the opportunity.

They lingered in the room for a while before heading downstairs. By then, it was already noon.

Aiden was sitting at the dining table, with Jason standing beside him as usual.

But the Flynn family was missing two people: Vincent and Everly.

Malcolm could tell Aiden was feeling down, even though he didn't say it. After all, they had all eaten at the same table for years, and now it was so quiet. It was hard for anyone to bear.

Older people are more prone to sadness.

Malcolm didn't want Aiden to spend his old age in regret.

He placed his hand on the table and said, "Grandpa, if you really want Everly and Vincent to come back, it's possible. I can make it happen."

Aiden sighed, "Let's wait a bit longer. Even if they come back now, their hearts aren't with the Flynn family anymore; they have their own agendas."

Aiden hoped, but he didn't want them to return with ulterior motives. What would be the point?

Malcolm respected Aiden's decision. "Alright, Grandpa, whatever you say."

"By the way, your aunt and cousin are coming over in a few days. You all need to take good care of them."

Alyssa frowned immediately, "Grandpa, you must be kidding. You mean those two? They're like little devils, completely unreasonable and overbearing."

Even Alyssa couldn't handle them. They were guests and relatives, so it wasn't appropriate to offend them. But those two really drove people crazy, especially since they loved to cause trouble on purpose.

Aiden immediately scolded Alyssa. "Alyssa, don't talk like that. They're your relatives. Have you forgotten when you were sick, it was your aunt who found out in time and took you to the hospital? You might not even be alive now if it weren't for her."

"And Malcolm too. When the family was busy and you were sick, if your aunt hadn't come to take care of you for over a month, you might have ended up in daycare."

Alyssa knew Malcolm wouldn't badmouth women behind their backs, but she didn't care. After all, she was a woman, and at most, she'd just get a few more words from Grandpa.

"Grandpa, I know, but over the years, our Flynn family has helped them a lot too. They act like vampires, always taking advantage of us. Every time something happens in our family, they come and meddle. They should at least know their place."

Aiden slammed the table. "Alyssa, you need to be grateful. A little advantage is nothing; our Flynn family isn't short of money. You need to remember their life-saving grace."

"Fine, I can't argue with you. Let them come and see if they don't turn the house upside down. You just got out of the hospital, and the doctor specifically told you to rest well."

Alyssa lost her appetite and got up to leave.

Malcolm turned to Reese. "Honey, can you go check on her? You know Alyssa's temper; she means no harm."

And it was true. Alyssa wasn't wrong about their aunt's family being troublesome; Aiden just didn't want to accept it.

After all, older people tended to be more traditional, which was understandable. Malcolm also wanted Reese to stay out of these matters.

She should just live her life and pursue her goals. He would handle the troublesome issues.

Seeing Aiden's displeased face, Reese knew she had no standing in this matter, as she didn't know the full story.

She nodded. "Okay, I'll go check on her."

When Reese went out, she saw Alyssa sitting on the bench at the door, her little face scrunched up and pouting, clearly in a bad mood.

Reese shrugged and walked over to Alyssa. "You're still the same, always showing your emotions on your face."

Alyssa, now emotional, spoke to Reese in a somewhat harsh tone.

"What can I do? That's just my personality. I don't like hiding my feelings. If I'm emotional, I'll show it openly. Why should I hide?"

Everything should be about her own happiness; there's no need to care about others' feelings, as that would only make her feel wronged.

Reese sat next to Alyssa. "Yeah, I think you're right. Being straightforward makes interactions easier. Those who are fake only live more exhausting lives. But sometimes, you also need to protect yourself. The emotions you show should at least not add more trouble for you, making you even more emotional. Otherwise, your actions would be meaningless."

"There's nothing wrong with openly showing your emotions. After all, we don't live forever, and no one will bear your sadness for you. Everything should be about yourself. But the premise is not to add more trouble for yourself. You're an adult now, and sometimes controlling your emotions is important. You can't let your emotions control you."

Alyssa agreed with Reese's words. But she couldn't understand why Aiden, knowing what their aunt's family was like, couldn't find another solution. They could easily be arranged elsewhere.

Oh well, it's not like she had a say in this family. She could just come home less often when they were around.

"Forget it, Grandpa's decisions can't be changed by anyone."

Reese patted Alyssa's shoulder. "Since you know Grandpa's decisions can't be changed, just go along with it. If your aunt's family likes to cause trouble, handle it flexibly. Are you really afraid of them?"

Reese's words seemed to suddenly enlighten Alyssa. "Yeah, I'm definitely not afraid of them. Besides, I have you, Reese."

Reese wasn't someone to be messed with. If someone provoked her, she'd retaliate regardless of who they were.

Alyssa wondered how she had forgotten about Reese. Now, there would be some interesting times ahead.
