Chapter 587 I Will Always Stand by Your Side
Malcolm's stare was ice-cold, cutting through the room like a knife, putting everyone, especially Alexander a bit on edge. It wasn't the first time Malcolm had gone all out to defend his wife, and every time he did, it was like his life was on the line.
Even as the big boss of the Hawthorne Group, Alexander felt a bit rattled.
But, he was still a Hawthorne, and he wasn't about to let Malcolm steal the spotlight.
He sneered, "Mr. Flynn, aren't you being a bit too touchy? I came here with good intentions, bringing flowers for Reese as a thank you. Are you really gonna shut me out for that?"
Malcolm's stare stayed frosty, his eyebrows just slightly raised. Even just standing there, he had this heavy presence that made people think twice before acting up.
"Mr. Hawthorne, are you playing dumb or are you really that clueless? Reese is your own sister. Look at how your family has treated her. Do you really think we're gonna roll out the red carpet for you?"
Calvin, who knew the score, was well aware that Reese had been through the wringer lately, especially with the Hawthorne family, who didn't know how to appreciate someone as awesome as Reese.
He snorted, "Mr. Hawthorne, you're not welcome here."
Calvin's words hit Alexander like a punch to the gut.
Alexander's face went red with anger, and he snapped at Calvin.
"Who do you think you are to talk to me like that?"
Reese's expression turned icy. Even hurt, she still had that fierce vibe. "Alexander, nobody can blame him in front of me. If you wanna scold someone, go back to your Hawthorne family. This ain't the place for your drama!"
Alexander was momentarily speechless.
Ryan and Louis were almost ready to give Reese a standing ovation.
Seriously, there was nothing Reese wouldn't say. Her comeback was spot on.
Alexander was about to lose it, his shoulders shaking with rage.
Sebastian felt embarrassed for Alexander, especially since everyone was ganging up on him.
He said to Alexander, "Alexander, maybe you should head back. "
Everyone in the room was tough as nails.
Unable to take out his anger on anyone else, Alexander turned on Sebastian. "Why did you even come here? Go back in a few days, or Dad might never let you return."
"I don't wanna go back! Did you hear what he said? What does he mean by 'the Flynn family isn't worth marrying into'? What's gonna happen if I marry into the Flynn family? This is just bias!"
Alexander frowned, "Dad's just looking out for you. Why are you so set on marrying Alyssa? Don't you get our current beef with the Flynn family? Do I need to spell it out for you?"
Reese, seeing Alexander's sneer, couldn't help but laugh. "The Hawthorne family looks down on the Flynn family, but the Flynn family doesn't even care about you. Besides, Alyssa is young and naive. She only sees Sebastian as a friend. Do you really think Alyssa wants to marry into your Hawthorne family?"
It was like Stephen refusing to acknowledge her, scared she'd take their family's fortune.
Alyssa was a Flynn. If she tied the knot with the Hawthornes, wouldn't they think she'd team up with Reese to snag the family fortune?
Their clan always put money first.
Hearing Reese trash-talk them, Alexander got even more ticked off and didn't feel like convincing Sebastian anymore. His face was all scrunched up with annoyance.
"Sebastian, you better head back! Otherwise, forget about being a Hawthorne. You can be a Brooks instead."
With that, Alexander stormed out.
"Alexander..." Sebastian called after him.
But Alexander didn't slow down his pace.
Sebastian tried to comfort Reese, who was lying in the hospital bed, "Reese, don't get mad at Alexander. Just let it go. That's just how he is."
Reese voiced, "I was just talking off the cuff. Don't sweat it. This beef is between me and the Hawthornes, not you. By the way, thanks to you, we nabbed Nolan."
Sebastian thought Reese was just being nice. She usually had this icy demeanor, so her being gentle was a rare sight.
At least now she was chatting with him a bit more.
He scratched his head awkwardly, "Reese, don't try to make me feel better. If it weren't for me, you would've caught him sooner. Nor would you have had to save me in that tunnel..."
Just thinking about it now gave him the chills.
If Reese had died because of him, he wouldn't have been able to forgive himself. He'd be haunted by guilt forever.
Right then, Alyssa walked in, carrying a thermos. "Reese..."
Reese greeted Alyssa. "Don't you have to take care of your studio today?"
Alyssa explained, "The studio's covered. My job now is to take care of you. Reese, I had the housekeeper whip up some soup for you. You need to get better. Don't forget, you and Malcolm are planning to have a baby."
"A baby..." Sebastian's eyes lit up, "Reese, are you planning to have a baby? Does this mean I'll be an uncle soon?"
Alyssa snorted, "In your dreams. Even if Reese gets pregnant, it's a Flynn. What's it got to do with you? The Hawthornes are a bunch of heartless jerks."
Sebastian quickly defended himself, "That has nothing to do with me. I'm not like them. I'll always have Reese's back."
Sebastian couldn't wrap his head around why they were so stubborn, not wanting Reese back in the family. Money was nothing compared to having such an awesome family member.
Alyssa finally gave Sebastian a bit of a break, "That's more like it. For now, I'll consider you an ally."
The vibe in the hospital room was full of joy and warmth, but Alexander, who had just walked out, was anything but.
As soon as he left the hospital and got into his car, his phone rang. It was Stephen.
"Dad."
"How did it go with Reese?"
At the mention of this, Alexander's anger flared up. "Don't even get me started. I got roasted alive in that room. Forget it, if Reese doesn't appreciate our concern, why should we bother seeing her?"
Even though he knew Reese was his blood sister, the sudden appearance of an outsider with such strong abilities in every aspect made him feel threatened.
If she really joined the Hawthorne family, his spot as the heir would be in jeopardy.
But it was clear that Stephen's guilt towards Reese was growing, making future issues harder for him to handle.
