Chapter 619 She Can't Hurt Me
The family dinner was going great, and Sebastian saw his chance to talk to Aiden. "Aiden, there's something I need to tell you, and I hope you'll be on board."
It just so happened that Reese was pregnant, and with Aiden in a good mood, Sebastian figured it was the perfect time to bring it up.
Honestly, everyone there already knew what he was about to say.
Alyssa, feeling a bit shy, tugged on Sebastian's sleeve. "What are you doing? I haven't even agreed yet, and you're already talking to Grandpa about it."
Sebastian shot back, "We've talked about this before, and this time, I'm not letting you back out."
"You..." Alyssa sighed, feeling a bit helpless.
It was the first time Alyssa felt like she couldn't win against Sebastian. He seemed dead set on marrying her, but she wasn't sure if it was because he liked her or for some other reason.
She didn't want to marry him without knowing the truth.
Aiden looked at Alyssa, not angry at all. "Alyssa, what do you think? Do you want to marry Sebastian?"
"Grandpa, it's not that I don't want to marry him, but I need to know if he wants to marry me because of that bet or if he really has feelings for me. I can't spend my life with someone who doesn't like me," Alyssa said.
Her thoughts were different from others. If she were to get married, it had to be mutual love. If it were just for some other reason, she'd rather not marry.
Aiden got where she was coming from and turned to Sebastian. "Did you catch what Alyssa meant?"
Sebastian, being quick on the uptake, got it right away.
Alyssa was upset that he had never actually told her how he felt.
Breaking from his usual carefree self, he walked up to Alyssa, put his hands on her shoulders, and looked her in the eyes. "Let me tell you now, I do like you, and it's not because of any bet. We share the same views on marriage and relationships—I would never gamble my life away for a bet."
Alyssa still found it hard to believe. "You say you... like me."
But when did this happen? She had no idea.
She had always thought it was because of what she said at the hospital last time, and because Stephen was upset with Sebastian, that he wanted to marry her.
Sebastian couldn't help but laugh at Alyssa's clueless expression, "So, you never knew how I felt?"
Shocked, Alyssa asked, "Did you think I knew?"
Sebastian had never told her, so how could she know?
Reese couldn't help but laugh at the two of them. It seemed like a misunderstanding had occurred.
Seeing Reese holding back her laughter, Malcolm couldn't help but ask, "Honey, didn't you ever ask them about this?"
"No, I thought they were both adults and knew what to do. I didn't expect that they were both in the dark," Reese shook her head slightly.
Alyssa couldn't help but laugh at their past interactions. Hearing Sebastian say he liked her made her feel comforted.
At least she had found someone who shared mutual affection with her.
At his age, Aiden no longer had high expectations. As long as Malcolm and Reese were there for the Flynn family, nothing else mattered.
As for Alyssa, even if she were to learn something at the company, it wouldn't be effective. With her personality, she would never go.
Since that was the case, there was no need to force anything.
Aiden exclaimed, "Alright, since you both have feelings for each other, there's nothing more for me to say. Since we're celebrating, let's do it all together. I'll have someone pick a good date, and you can have your wedding. And Malcolm and Reese's wedding too."
Malcolm jumped in, "Grandpa, don't sweat it. I'll have Justin handle everything. You just need to show up."
"Great. That takes a load off my mind. Let's go with that," Aiden replied.
Malcolm chimed in, "But hold on, our family might be cool with it, but the Hawthorne family might not be, especially Sebastian's mom."
Clara was known for her high-society demeanor, but push her too far, and she could turn into a real handful.
Even though he wasn't scared of her, he didn't want to stir up unnecessary drama.
Reese stepped up. "Don't worry about it. I'll handle the Hawthornes. I've got a way to get them on board."
Sebastian and Alyssa were taken aback.
"Reese, you really think you can get them to agree?"
"Reese, are you planning to sweet-talk them into it?"
Reese just smiled, "Don't worry about it. I'll take care of everything."
Alyssa felt reassured. "As long as you're handling it, I'm not worried at all."
She always believed Reese could do anything. Even if something seemed impossible, Reese would find a way rather than give up.
Overjoyed, Sebastian walked up to Reese and gave her a big hug. "Reese, thank you so much."
Reese remembered all the times Sebastian had helped her. "Consider it payback for all the help you've given me."
The meal wrapped up on a high note. As the servants were clearing the dishes, Everly hesitantly spoke up, "Reese, can I stay here tonight? It's pretty late, and heading back isn't convenient."
Alyssa felt a bit awkward hearing this. She hadn't expected Everly to make such a request.
Even though Aiden had allowed her to come to the Flynn family dinner, their past issues were still unresolved.
Who could guarantee that Everly had truly changed?
Before Reese could respond, Alyssa jumped in, "I can take you back. Your room's been turned into storage, and the other guest rooms aren't cleaned."
Everly got the hint.
"I get it, you don't fully trust me yet, and that's fair. But I swear, if anything happens again, you can deal with me however you see fit!" Everly insisted.
"But..." Alyssa started.
Reese cut her off, "Alyssa, let her stay tonight."
Alyssa was still worried. "But Reese..."
"With my skills, she can't hurt me. Even though I'm pregnant, she doesn't have the ability," Reese explained.
Though it sounded a bit cocky, it made sense.
Alyssa gave in but still warned Everly, "Just so you know, Reese is carrying the Flynn family bloodline. If you dare harm her, the entire Flynn family will come after you. Think carefully, is it worth risking your future for a child? Besides, Malcolm and Reese already have a kid, so you have no chance."
Everly stayed calm and her gaze softened. She assured Alyssa, "Don't worry, I know my mistakes and won't repeat them."
Alyssa snorted, "As long as you get it."
Sebastian, also worried about Everly harming Reese, added his own warning, "If you hurt Reese, I will kill you."
Everly promised repeatedly, "I won't harm her, and I can't even if I wanted to."
With Reese's skills, she could easily take Everly down.
