Chapter 84 Someone's Competing For Your Darling

Seeing Reese's smug appearance and remembering how lovey-dovey they were together almost blew Everly's mind.

She clutched her head and let out a shrill, desperate scream.

"You shameless woman, I'm going to teach you a lesson today!"

With that, Everly raised her hand, aiming a slap at Reese's face. But the look in Reese's eyes turned sharp as she flashed a contemptuous smile. Before Everly's hand could make contact, Reese grabbed her arm and tossed her onto the bed, nimbly flipping over to sit on her back, pressing down on her legs.

Everly's cries of agony filled the room.

"Ah... It hurts so bad! Somebody, help! This brat is trying to kill me!"
Hearing Everly's cry, the staff hurried in. Their numbers were strong, but none dared approach Reese, who stood her ground with fierce, piercing eyes.

They even blamed Everly internally, who knew Reese was not like the other girls, yet still provoked her.

Now intervening seemed like a futile march to their doom.

Everly, seeing them hesitate at the door like statues, bellowed in embarrassment and rage.

"What are you waiting for? Get her off me, now!"

A skinny woman nudged the plump woman beside her.

"You're stronger, you go first!"

"I'm too clumsy, you're nimbler, you go."

"You're taller, go on."

"I’m not going, I'm still sore from being laid up in bed for days after tangling with Miss Alyssa. If I go, it's bed rest for life."

Reese sneered, "See? They're all scared. But you, you're brave enough to come at me first thing in the morning. It seems Miss Alyssa's been brought to heel, but you're out of line."

The pose Reese struck now was an immense humiliation for Everly.

Ever since she was a child, like Alyssa, she'd been coddled by Malcolm and Grandfather. When had she ever been treated like this?

The hurt and anger boiling inside made her confront Reese despite the pain.

"Reese, don't think just because you're a fighter that you can lord over the Flynn family. I'm warning you—I'll tell Grandfather if you don't let me go!"

Reese, who never backed down from anyone, was not intimidated by Everly's threat; if anything, it egged her on.

"Go ahead, I'll also tell him how you've been pining after my darling, troubling me time and again."

Even though there was no blood relation between Everly and Malcolm, any whiff of scandal would disgrace the Flynn family.

In the public's eye, they were as good as siblings, and here they were, kindling flames of forbidden love, especially while Malcolm had a wife. Such chaos in an illustrious household.

The Flynns were all about their reputation. The family would be the talk of the town, a laughing stock, and as for Finn Sawyer, it would drive him sick.

Struck at her core by Reese's words, Everly was at a loss for words, her face flushing pale and then red.

"Just let go of me!" she exclaimed.
She knew she had to change the subject; confronting her grandpa about such matters was out of the question. The secret had been safely hidden in her heart for years, but to think that a young and inexperienced girl like Reese would see right through her was unimaginable.

When Reese first arrived, she seemed so awkward and clueless. But now, it appeared she was getting sharper by the day, with eyes that seemed to penetrate straight into her soul. Sometimes, she couldn't even bear to meet Reese's gaze.

Reese arched an elegant eyebrow, clearly unafraid of the staff rushing over to intervene. It wouldn't matter if it were just these two or three, or even the entire fleet of the Flynn family's staff—they were no match for her.

"I can let you go, but you need to apologize to me."

Everly had always looked down on Reese, and given that they were rivals in love, the thought of apologizing to her was ludicrous. If she backed down now, Reese would have her under her thumb forever. She would never allow it.

Everly glared at Reese with venom in her eyes. "I'd rather die than apologize to you!"

"Oh please, dying is easy. But you can't even handle a little pain. You're in no position to talk about death."

With that, Reese tightened her grip, and Everly screamed in agony, sweat beading on her forehead.

"Reese, you wretched woman, I'll kill you! Do you actually think the Flynn family wanted you to marry in? You're nothing but a pawn to cheer Malcolm up. Once his leg heals, you’ll be out of here!"

Reese's face remained untouched by the tirade, like punching a pillow. The nearby staff grew increasingly nervous, fearing Reese might actually cripple the young miss.

There was a chilling ferocity and apathy in the young girl's eyes, captivating and intimidating to those who witnessed it.

Should anything happen to Miss Everly because of Reese, the staff knew they wouldn't escape blame either.

"Madam, please, spare Miss Everly. She didn't mean to cause trouble."

"Please, Madam, have mercy. If anything serious happens, how will you explain it to Sir and the Master?"

Reese stood her ground firmly: "I've already made myself clear. An apology is all I want, nothing more."

She wouldn’t allow anyone to insult her without consequence.

Everly ought to be thankful; were it not for the fact that she was Malcolm's sister, Reese wouldn't have been so lenient.

Everly remained stubborn, "I’d rather die than apologize to you—ah... Reese, are you insane? Are you really going to do this?"

She never believed Reese would take things this far. Had the girl lost her mind? To secure an apology, was she actually willing to ruin her?
Reese exuded an intense aura of authority.

"Last chance. Don't push me too far!" She warned.

Everly, who had lost all her earlier arrogance and was feeling the crunch, thought that if she didn't compromise today, Reese might genuinely harm her.

"Alright, I apologize. I was wrong to bother you and to be jealous," she conceded.

Only then did Reese relax. He stood up, releasing Everly, and straightened the wrinkles on his clothes.

"We better stay out of each other's way, or you're the one who's going to suffer," he told her—his final warning.

Finished, Reese walked past the staff members, who parted to make way for him.

Everly lay on the bed, seemingly unable to move, her anger manifesting with a furious punch against the wall.

"Reese, I won't let this go!" she vowed.

Reese didn't take her seriously. It wasn't out of cruelty, but if he didn't teach Everly a lesson now, troubles like this would keep coming. Better to deal with it directly and give her enough pain to deter her from stirring things up again.

As he was getting ready to get into his car, Reese's phone rang. Alyssa was on the other end, sounding frantic.

"Reese, you've got to come quick, someone's trying to steal Darling from you."

Without thinking, he asked, "Who?"
