Chapter 396 The Long-awaited Words
This was perhaps the most genuine sentiment Reese had expressed to him in a long while, and it brought Malcolm a happiness he hadn't felt in quite some time.
Because Malcolm had now truly become a part of Reese's world.
In the next moment, Malcolm reached out and pulled Reese into his arms. Reese was momentarily taken aback by his sudden gesture.
"What Is it?"
Did Reese say something that make Malcolm misunderstood her?
Malcolm's heart was churning with waves of excitement that were hard to put into words.
"Darling, you finally see me as your own. It's been a long time coming."
Malcolm's efforts had finally succeeded, breaking the cold, hard barrier between them.
Reese couldn't help but chuckle at Malcolm's words. "Are you trying to make me laugh with all this talk?"
But in truth, Reese had never fully trusted Malcolm before. She was haunted by the fear of encountering another person like Everhart, someone who seemed kind and considerate on the surface but would go to great lengths to sabotage her, dreading her success.
However, behind Reese's back, Malcolm had done so much for her, both big and small. He consistently put himself in Reese's shoes, prioritizing her needs over his own interests.
Everhart's initial approach was never genuine, and what followed made his true intentions even more apparent.
Malcolm, looking at Reese's face, her bright and clear eyes, and her crimson lips made him unable to resist the urge.
Malcolm's mind raced with these thoughts, and he acted on them. The two of them were soon locked in a passionate embrace in the study.
The phone ringing abruptly shattered the intimate atmosphere, prompting Reese to quickly push Malcolm away.
"I need to take the call."
Malcolm clenched his fists tightly, seething with the urge to smash the phone. Someone just had to call at this moment, didn't they?
Reese took a look at Calvin's call and figured it must be about the project.
Reese answered the call and walked to the side.
"What Is it?"
"Reese, you might need to hurry," Malcolm said. "I've found out that Alexander Hawthorne of the Hawthorne family is almost done with the project proposal. Whether we secure this project is all up to you now."
Reese frowned. "He's that quick?"
It appeared that Reese had underestimated Alexander's capabilities. In a remarkably short time, Alexander had nearly completed the project proposal.
But upon reflection, it seemed rather expected. After all, the success of the Hawthorne family wasn't solely reliant on Stephen; the contributions of the two sons were also pivotal.
"Yes, that's why you need to make haste. Is your proposal ready?"
Calvin felt that if Reese put in a little more effort, there wouldn't be any issue. He was well aware of Reese's capabilities.
Reese glanced at Malcolm, who was putting on his coat, and suddenly felt a twinge of awkwardness.
Reese could only fabricate a statement. "I'm almost done here, don't worry."
"Alright. Hurry up. Call me if you need anything. I'll be available all night."
"Okay."
After hanging up, Reese immediately tidied up her clothes and sat down.
"I need to hurry up. Alexander is almost done with his proposal."
"Can I be of any help to you? It might be faster together."
Malcolm had just reviewed Reese's project and found it quite impressive. If they managed to secure it, the subsequent rewards would be substantial. Such a golden opportunity naturally shouldn't be missed by anyone.
Reese raised an eyebrow teasingly. "You have no background in this. Do even you understand it?"
"You're underestimating your husband here. My reputation as a business genius is not just an empty name. How would you know if you did not let me try? Besides, you might not be able to finish it alone by tonight."
The key was that Malcolm understood Reese's temperament all too well. Reese was not one to accept defeat, and forcing her to surrender was akin to facing death itself.
As Reese's husband, Malcolm's only way was to ensure that Reese secured this project.
Glancing at the time, Reese noticed it was already 2 a.m. She had initially planned for three days, but now it seemed that not even two days remained.
"Alright, go ahead and take a look at this."
Throughout the night, they delved deeply into the project. With their keen understanding of such matters, they progressed swiftly. By 8 a.m., they had already completed it.
Reese looked at the project proposal with satisfaction and breathed a sigh of relief.
"Finally done."
"Let's have it sent over quickly."
"Okay."
Reese changed into a fresh set of clothes and rushed to Calvin's place without even removing her makeup.
Calvin was already waiting at the door, and he was shocked to see Reese.
"Well, that's fast."
"My husband and I did it together."
Otherwise, given Reese's pace, it might not have happened so quickly. But Reese had indeed underestimated Malcolm's capabilities. Malcolm truly could be considered a business prodigy; he had a knack for grasping the essence of things at the very first opportunity, no matter what it was.
Malcolm didn't even need to spend much time examining complex matters; he could quickly understand them and devise new solutions. That was the most admirable aspect of his abilities.
Calvin couldn't help but feel surprised about it. "Your husband knows about this?"
"There's no need to hide from him anyway. Nothing can hide from him."
Malcolm had now almost unraveled all of Reese's secrets, and it was clear that he wouldn't harm her. The fact was clear, and there was no need for secrecy between them.
From Reese's current behavior, Calvin could tell that she truly trusted Malcolm. It was the first time Calvin had seen Reese place her trust in a man.
There were some things he wanted to say to caution her, but seeing how happy his boss was now, he couldn't bring himself to disturb that happiness.
Perhaps they hadn't interacted with Malcolm much, and maybe he truly did like Reese. Besides, Reese was so outstanding that she deserved to be liked by someone.
"Well, I'll go ahead to see Reese. You go back and get some rest. By the time you wake up, we should have some news. But once we submit this project proposal, it'll be hard to keep it hidden from the Hawthorne family. Alexander Hawthorne will definitely know that you're competing with him for the project."
With the Flynn family transitioning into the media industry like the Hawthorne family, and now Reese competing with Alexander Hawthorne for a project, it seemed like they were directly at odds with the Hawthorne family.
The more Calvin thought about it, the more excited he became. It had been a long time since he'd engaged in something this challenging.
Reese nods. "You can go now."
After Calvin left, Reese returned to the Flynn family. She assumed Malcolm must be resting in his room, considering they had spent the entire night working on the project.
To her surprise, the room was empty. A fleeting image flashed through her mind, and the light in her eyes gradually dimmed.
